Romney Releases 2011 Tax Returns

Serious question: Did he have a job in 2011?

If he did, we are all in the wrong industry. Wish I could make $13 mil in a year. Heck, I'd settle for $1,000,000

Wow! Romney paid his taxes! Just wait until the liberal press gets ahold of this!

Anybody here pay $1.9 Million in taxes last year?

Anybody....anybody....?

Didn't think so.

Wait, I thought he already released his 2011 tax returns. So what 2 years did he release?

Anonymous said...

Romney has been running for president for 7 years. I think that was his job in 2011.

Anonymous said...

He must be a good business man, sure wish we had him running our country, maybe he would run it like the business that it is. Never mind we have a lawyer running the great U.S.A.
A lawyer that has never had a job and one that has lost 6 trillion in the last 3 years.

Why is this news?? Oh Yeah... We need to make sure nobody is reporting on President Obama.

Jealous often?

Good for him not filing against all of his donations, that would have put him around 13%

Man, I can't wait for m Captial Gains to really start kicking in... I just have to wait until....... Crap, nevermind. I will just live vicariously through Romney.

That's nice Mr. Romney, but please stop trying to distract us from your recently revealed contempt for 47% of the country.

1:55...If you think he has contempt for the 47%, it is because you want to think that. If you cared enough to read the entire transcript or watch all of the clip, you would know what he said.

Wope. Wope. Wope.

Have you ever checked your percentage after deductions and credits? You can't go by what is deducted.

Anonymous said...

Man, and that 47% mostly live in red states. Glad to see they are following Romney's lead. Too bad he hates them.

Anonymous said...

Good for him not filing against all of his donations, that would have put him around 13%

Donations are maxed out at a certain level. There is a point after which you do not get a 1:1 deduction for your donations. You can bet he maxed his deductions out. Couple of things: I would expect him to max them out, and good for him for donating things/money--more people should.

That being said, I'm waiting to see if he ever discloses the years where he took advantage of the IRS amnesty and basically admits he was hiding income in Swiss accounts.

Kind of like waiting for Wordkyle to make a cogent AND honest point, or for Mike Honcho to not follow me around in a thread, I won't be holding my breath.

To say that Romney has run a business is somewhat over stated - Bain Capital is not a product producing company it’s a business buys and sells other companies. His role was never to make the day to day operating decisions – it was to look at the finncals and decide how to maximize the profit – he did that very well – but that has noting to do with running a company or the country.

And by the way – he is a Lawyer…not a business major.

Anonymous said...

Just to not loose sight of the numbers – his tax rate is lower then what a self employed person pays just for social security……let alone income tax……

Anonymous said...

Which is the larger concern:

The person who has a job and makes $25,000 a year but because of republican lead tax cuts doesn’t have to pay income tax

Or

A person who make over $13,000,000 a year and pays a small rate then someone who makes $100,000

Anonymous said...

1:55

He is not alone in his contempt for the 47% teat suckers.

DF Dewey, Cheatem & Howe said...

An effective rate of 14% for a guy making over $13M/year. Go ahead & check your rates & see what % you had to pay. Betcha it's plenty more than 14%.

OK Republicans, exactly whey is it so important that the extremely wealthy pay the lowest % of income taxes. And don't answer me with how the poor don't pay any taxes. Let's all be realistic here and understand that the poor & lower wage earners pay a huge % of their income to other non-income taxes (sales tax, employment tax, SS tax, Medicaid, etc.).

I was wondering who benefited from all the Bush Tax Cuts. I give you...Mitt Romney. Congratulations!

Anonymous said...

I paid 25%

Anonymous said...

As long as it was legal, who cares what he paid?

I pay tens of thousands every year. I am not paying any more than what I am now.

Cut spending, or get it from those that pay nothing.

Anonymous said...

My effective tax rate last year was only 5%. Not bad IMO.

I wouldn't mind trying to figure out what to do with the other TWELVE MILLION dollars if it were me...

And that's just one year.

Just sayin'.

Ricardo Perry said...

13% would be nice for the 99%, but the middle class pays an effective rate much higher than that. Consider flat taxes such as sales tax, gas tax, utility taxes, and other fees (which are, undeniably, a form of tax).

Anonymous said...

sorry 2:16 - But according to that liberal rag the Wall Street Journal

“The Obama’s gave about 13.6% of their income to charity in 2010. That was up from 5.8% in 2009”

My gross income for 2011 was $54,460 and I paid 14.22% after all deductions and income credits. I was self employed for 7 years and never paid more than 13% even after all self employment taxes because of expenses and write offs and depreciation. You need a better accountant.

Before we all assume that our guys is great and the other guy is trash – lets agree that both Obama and Romney are good people that want to do what they feel is the best for the county.

As far as tax returns are concerned – look at the facts and draw your own conclusions on both individuals.

Here are links to both their 2011 tax returns:

2:31 - you dont need an accountant - you need a lawyer.
- your Self-employment and SS taxes alone would be higher then the rate you paid

wordkyle said...

306 - Let's be complete here. From your link, the history of Obama charitable contributions:

2000-2004 - 0.4%-1.4%
2005-2008 - 4.6%-6.2%
2009 - 5.8%
2010 - 13.6%

In 2011, according to Politico, Obama gave $172,130, or 21.8% of his income, to charity.

In comparison, Romney gave $4,020,772 -- 29.4% -- of his $13.7 million income to charity.

DF Ronald Reagan said...

3:20 Intelligent people are not asking those that had a gross of $55K/yr to pay more in taxes.

The question is those making an Adjusted Gross Income of > $250K and whether in incremental 3% increase on the amounts above that $250K would be appropriate.

Another question is whether the tax rate on capital gains should be raised or at least raised in an incremental way on those with very large incomes.

For two years, thanks to Republican icon Ronald Reagan, capital gains and earned income were treated equally:

For most of the history of income taxes in America, long-term capital gains — defined at different times as investments held for minimum periods of as little as six months and as long as 10 years — have been taxed at substantially lower rates than top ordinary income tax rates.

There was, in fact, only one time that capital gains were taxed at the same rates that were paid by people who earned their money by working. That was during the years 1988 to 1990, as a result of the Tax Reform Act of 1986 — a law championed by President Ronald Reagan.

Reagan’s Vice President, George H.W. Bush, convinced Reagan and Congress to lower the rate again as he was preparing to run for the presidency, and the capital gains rates was subsequently lowered to today’s rate of 15 percent by his son, President George W. Bush, as part of his 2003 tax cut.

Reagan’s tax increase did not cause investment to fall, as many anti-tax ideologues had predicted.

Romney is a multi-multi millionaire. Obama's $170K donation means far more than Romney's $4 Million one. Period.

Anonymous said...

It would be interesting to see if Obama’s increase in charitable contributions corresponded with his increased income. not sure...

Also lets compare how Obama’s contribution have increased for the last 12 years compared to how Romney’s contribution have increased over that same time……

Oh wait – never mind we can’t…..

SE and SS are determined from adjusted gross income, after deductions from gross income. Total percentage paid is calculated from gross income before deductions. I clarified that in my previous statement.

Anonymous said...

3:47,

Hmmm, let's see...I believe the charities would rather have 7 digit donations, than six digit donations. Just a wild guess.

I care a lot more what Obama is doing with my money, than what Romney is doing with his own money.

wordkyle said...

347 - How so?

Not sure what Romney's job was last year but we all know what it will be in November POTUS. Obammy is just a empty chair on his way out to mecca

Anonymous said...

3:47 ---
If you don't think Obama is a multi-million by now, you are out of your mind. Difference is -- Romney made his - Obama's was made off the backs of the tax payer.

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle,

according to my basic reading and math skills Romney in fact paid $2,250,772 in charity. (line 19, schedule A, form 1040) which is 16%. Yes that's a lot. But he would have donated 10% to his church to remain in good standing so only 6% is left over for other donations. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints requires its members to contribute 10% of their income to the church and we know he followed through on this in 2010. The other 6% or roughly $820,000 went to The Tyler Foundation per form 8283 and supplement to Schedule "A" Noncash charitable contributions. So he gave what was required of him by his church then only donated 6% to other charities.

Anonymous said...

3:47

Not really. Math must not be your strong suit.

Ask yourself this question:

Does a man making $400K per year as President really donate $170K to charity?

Let's consider Obama's financial advantages as POTUS:

Free housing

Free utilities

Free home maintenance

Free lawn service

Free transportation

Free food

Free health care

Free dental

Free retirement plan

Free personal servants

Free clothing

Free entertainment

Free education for his kids

Being POTUS has major advantages when you look at the financial side of things.

So in conclusion, slamming Romney for charitable contributions of $4 million vs. Obama's charitable contributions of $170k is about as idiotic as you can get.

Anonymous said...

Who cares? I care more about policy and the status of our Nation than what either of the two men made, or how they made it! Talk about distraction! Under the current POTUS more people are not working, more people are on Govt. assistance since WWII, inflation has increased or the value of the dollar has decreased either way it cost more to buy less. Our standing in the world has declined, our debt has increased far more than I care to keep track of and for the first time in my almost 40 years on this earth I have a real doubt that my kids will be better off than I am right now!

The fact is, Romney has to pay his own living expenses as a private citizen. The President lives off the tax payers.

US News - Romney "donated over $4 million to charity last year"
NY Times - Romney "donated about $4 million to charity in 2011"
Politico - The Romneys donated "$4,020,772 out of the $13,696,951 they took in."
Washington Post - "Romney donated $4.02 million to charity in 2011"
Anon 441 - "according to my basic reading and math skills Romney in fact paid $2,250,772 in charity."

When will Mitt Romney clear up the inconsistencies in how much he actually donated to charity in 2011? Or at least what he plans to do about inferior basic reading and math skills in America?

DID NOT RELEASE RETURNS.
Released a document where his paid accountant described them,
What are you hiding from us 47%?

Anonymous said...

Mormons who believe that God lives on the Planet Kolob is not charity.

Anonymous said...

Wordy, let me help you with your math. Romney made some $4 million in charitable donations BUT only claimed some $2 million on his return (so that his federal rate comes out to about 14%). As noted above, he HAD TO donate 10% to the Mormon church to maintain his position with them. He donated a smaller amount to other non-church charities. If he had claimed his full donation amount (as he has said before he does and must do to be a good businessman) his federal rate would have been in the 9% to 12% range and would have really got more folks riled up. Please also note that he can still file an amended return after he loses the election for that additional $2 million unclaimed donations! C'mon - refute that!

Now that Romney has finally revealed his 2011 return - it still begs the question what is he hiding in his earlier returns? Why won't he simply prove Harry Reid the liar he claims he is?

Anonymous said...

Shocking that an anti-gun, pro mandated healthcare, pro tax guy like Romney gave money away. Good for him and his liberal (err, I mean RINO) following.

Wait, he is now pro gun, pro life, and anti-Romneycare, right? I forget which Romney we speak of sometimes.

Why the hell couldn't we nominate a conservative? Or, at least someone more conservative than Obama?

wordkyle said...

750/441 - Let me help you with your math. At 441 you said "Romney in fact paid $2,250,772 in charity."

$2,250,772 ≠ $4,020,772

The rest is you quibbling about how Romney donated his money.

Anonymous said...

Free housing - yes. He lives in the White House - duh

Free utilities - "

Free home maintenance "

Free lawn service "

Free transportation

Free food - he pays for the food for his whole family.

Free health care

Free dental

Free retirement plan

Free personal servants

Free clothing - he pays for his own daily clothes.

Free entertainment

Free education for his kids - they pay for private school out of their own pocket. If they went to public school they - like everyone else - would get a free education.

Mitt Romney, I have a question for you about your taxes.

1) Financial disclosures show that you have as much as $82 million in your tax-deferred Individual Retirement Account, despite the fact that tax rules limited contributions into such accounts to $30,000 per year. Did you lowball the value of the assets you put into your IRA, as tax experts suspect? And did you do the same with gifts into your sons’ trusts?

2) What was the purpose of your Swiss bank account and the myriad offshore entities shown on your return, based in countries like the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg, if not to avoid taxes?

3) After the election, when the subject of your tax returns is outside of the public glare, will you file an amended tax return to claim your full deduction of charitable contributions? Was the tax rate you reported for other years similarly manipulated?

Anonymous said...

Romney made his off the backs of Kansas City steelworkers and then stole their job. Kinda like hiring the mexicans from primos and then calling INS on them.

Anonymous said...

Can you believe Romney thinks he can stonewall the country by stating that his returns "averaged" 20% over the past 20 years - with absolutely no supporting documentation. It appears he's delayed this recent reporting until he could amend some past returns so that he can claim he paid some income tax - again with no documentation. I'd imagine you birthers ought be demanding Romney produce his documentation like you demanded from Obama. But you won't because it could likely reveal Romney's a liar and tax manipulator. Unfortunately, I paid a higher federal rate than Romney claimed while earning approx $12,200,000 less than him.

Anonymous said...

Rage...charitable contributions for cash do not max out until they reach 50% of your adjusted gross income. I suspect you knew that but you can throw out something like that knowing your liberal followers will never check for themselves. And you call Wordkyle dishonest? Also, you discuss the Swiss bank accounts as if they are fact when in reality, your accusations are no different than those made by your hero, Harry Reid.

3:31...you only pay self employment and social security on the first $106k so that would not have much effect on Romney's income.

4:41...Seriously? That is your argument? Obama gave squat prior to his speech at the DNC and it became obvious he would be "anointed." he never gave anything until he knew he would be scrutinized.

4:02...See above...Obama's contributions didn't begin until it became obvious he would have to release his tax returns. Prior to that, he gave merely a pittance.

It is amazing how the main stream press and left wing blogs are giving all the attention to how much Romney pays in taxes while the Middle East is rioting, Iran is moving forward with nuclear weapons to wipe Israel off the face of the earth and Islamist terrorist are killing our Ambassador and fellow Americans!!

Obama's foreign policy has failed in the Middle East and if he is elected, we are in danger!

Since envy and redistribution of wealth is dividing us as a Nation, we will not be able to remain the leader of the free world.

Those who want more handouts from the government will cheer when our military is under funded so they can get more "goodies". Then when we can't get oil shipped from the Middle East, they will pay $$$$$ at the pump while the economy tanks!!!

But they hate the rich because they are losers who can't build swat but want to live like the rich!

Anonymous said...

Wordy you still miss Romney's manipulation. His return shows over $4 million in donations but he only claimed the $
2 million amount. Why? It appears that he had to to get his tax rate up to the 14% range he had earlier claimed. He has also said he has always paid all he owes and not a penny more. He has said if he paid more than owed he shouldn't be president. OK, he intentionally overpaid and therefore shouldn't be elected - by his own criteria.

829 - I didn't miss anything. You based an entire long comment at 441 on calculating Romney's charitable donations at $2 million when he actually gave twice that much to charity. Your post concluded: "So he gave what was required of him by his church then only donated 6% to other charities." You tried to criticize him for how much he "actually" (according to you) gave to "other charities," and you were completely wrong about that point.

At 750 you then attempted to condescend to me while sliding away from the fact that you got busted on your central point at 441. Address that issue before you begin rationalizing your next incorrect point.

Killing Romney accusations that he on the side of Wall Street, is the master plan of David Axlerod, Obama's campaign and political advisor. David Axelrod's mentor was David Canter, a communist and his mother was a reporter for a radical left newspaper in New York.

During the time spent with Obama, Axelrod has become rich, receiving millions from pharmacutical companies supporting Obamacare!!!

Axelrod is ruthless in attacking Romney, accusing him even of murder!

He is far to the left, hates Republicans and was mentored by a Communist and influence by his radical left mother!

And the mainstream media is silent on the background influences of known Communist connected to our president and his cheif advisor while attacking Romney for being successful.

And while hatred and protest spread in the Middle East against our country and the freedoms we cherish, left wing reporters and left wing blogs will do anything to re-elect a man they don't even know.

What will happen to our country by 2016, if Obama is re-elected? His radical agenda will be on steroids while he ignores the dangers of terrorism and other threats. Axelrod will be his advisor to spin and sell redistribution and all other Socialist ideology to the press that will not even dare ask a question.

Clint Eastwood said that Obama is the biggest hoax perpetrated upon the American people.

Axelrod is the master mind of this hoax!

Anonymous said...

Wordy you still don't recognize that Romney had over $4million in donations but only claimed $2million. Therefore he overpaid his 2011 federal tax. Why do that? Only to get his tax rate up to the 14% rate he had earlier claimed. I don't mean to condecend to you-just ask you to see what a slippery guy Romney is.

751 - Once more, this is the lesson -- you made an accusation earlier that turned out to be completely false, wrong, in error -- however you want to describe it. After getting completely busted on it, you simply step to another claim, as though you never made the first one. At this point, why should your opinion on anything matter? Not only do you provide completely erroneous information, you don't seem to think it matters, even when you're caught. Your posts originally lacked accurate information. Now you, as a poster, also lack credibility.

2:28 if you're interested, Obama's returns have been public for several years. They list his contributions to churches. There are obviously none to the Muslim Brotherhood. Romney's returns for years before 2010 are not available - probably hasn't sufficiently amended them so that they show some tax actually was paid..
