Donations are maxed out at a certain level. There is a point after which you do not get a 1:1 deduction for your donations. You can bet he maxed his deductions out. Couple of things: I would expect him to max them out, and good for him for donating things/money--more people should.

Wordy, let me help you with your math. Romney made some $4 million in charitable donations BUT only claimed some $2 million on his return (so that his federal rate comes out to about 14%). As noted above, he HAD TO donate 10% to the Mormon church to maintain his position with them. He donated a smaller amount to other non-church charities. If he had claimed his full donation amount (as he has said before he does and must do to be a good businessman) his federal rate would have been in the 9% to 12% range and would have really got more folks riled up. Please also note that he can still file an amended return after he loses the election for that additional $2 million unclaimed donations! C'mon - refute that!
Now that Romney has finally revealed his 2011 return - it still begs the question what is he hiding in his earlier returns? Why won't he simply prove Harry Reid the liar he claims he is?

Mitt Romney, I have a question for you about your taxes.
1) Financial disclosures show that you have as much as $82 million in your tax-deferred Individual Retirement Account, despite the fact that tax rules limited contributions into such accounts to $30,000 per year. Did you lowball the value of the assets you put into your IRA, as tax experts suspect? And did you do the same with gifts into your sons’ trusts?
2) What was the purpose of your Swiss bank account and the myriad offshore entities shown on your return, based in countries like the Cayman Islands and Luxembourg, if not to avoid taxes?
3) After the election, when the subject of your tax returns is outside of the public glare, will you file an amended tax return to claim your full deduction of charitable contributions? Was the tax rate you reported for other years similarly manipulated?

Can you believe Romney thinks he can stonewall the country by stating that his returns "averaged" 20% over the past 20 years - with absolutely no supporting documentation. It appears he's delayed this recent reporting until he could amend some past returns so that he can claim he paid some income tax - again with no documentation. I'd imagine you birthers ought be demanding Romney produce his documentation like you demanded from Obama. But you won't because it could likely reveal Romney's a liar and tax manipulator. Unfortunately, I paid a higher federal rate than Romney claimed while earning approx $12,200,000 less than him.
Rage...charitable contributions for cash do not max out until they reach 50% of your adjusted gross income. 829 - I didn't miss anything. You based an entire long comment at 441 on calculating Romney's charitable donations at $2 million when he actually gave twice that much to charity. Your post concluded: "So he gave what was required of him by his church then only donated 6% to other charities." You tried to criticize him for how much he "actually" (according to you) gave to "other charities," and you were completely wrong about that point.
At 750 you then attempted to condescend to me while sliding away from the fact that you got busted on your central point at 441. Address that issue before you begin rationalizing your next incorrect point.

2:28 if you're interested, Obama's returns have been public for several years. They list his contributions to churches. There are obviously none to the Muslim Brotherhood. Romney's returns for years before 2010 are not available - probably hasn't sufficiently amended them so that they show some tax actually was paid..
Wordy it is YOU who continues to ignore the facts. Romney intentionally underreported his contributions by some 1.75 million dollars. This was so his tax rate would come out at14%. It is clearly you who is guilty of what you acuse of me. This is obvious to thinking readers. Who has lost credibility?
