This letter kind of stopped me down when I read it in the Baylor alumni magazine yesterday --the one with Kenneth Starr on the cover. (The above pic has to be the author.)
Baylor sports fans discuss (only message board I could find.)

A very closed mind on such a young person....pathetic.
Honey, science has long since proven much of what the bible says is hogwash, so you need to choose whether you are going to accept your education or not. Otherwise, you only need to use the Bible as your only go to textbook for all matters science and leave real science to those willing to take the blinders off.
I must live in a bubble. People actually think the world is only 6,000 years old because the Bible says so? Really? I mean really? This woman is for real?
Yes Christi, directly from the finger of God. Via Aramaic, to Hebrew, to Greek, to Latin, to English translations. Via the Hampton Court Conference of King James I (the King James Bible). Via the Council of Nicaea convened by Constantine. No chance for human interpretation to creep in here. Nope. Uh uh. No way. Word of God, uninterpreted by Man. Yep. Literal.
The bible also says that God's time and man's time is calculated different. So the bible may say the Earth is 6,000 years old but in our time 100,000 years old. Sad that she missed that part.
Not too long ago "the church" proclaimed the world was flat. Anyone who even spoke of the world being round was burned at the stake in the name of the Lord.
1:13 Great post. Those "direct" words of God interpreted and intercepted and rearranged by decades of human beings is certain to be 100% infallible! Not
Hey, Mr. Green why didnt you put my cmment up about seed time and harvest, and about Gods judgement on all mankind, and about the monkey who changed. Hu
According to the Pope, the Baptist do not have the "means of salvation" so who really cares what some loon from a fringe group claims to know about The Big Book of Myths and Fables? Face it, any group/religion that is predicated on a mythical martyr becoming a zombie is going to be full of howling-mad zealots.
MZchief, You of all zealots, have your own oppinion, which is so far wrong its sad. Jesus Christ is the only savior and you cant call him by name, you call him a zombie. I will bet you the world, when Christ comes back you will drop to your kneees and confess his name I gaurantee it.
The Bible most definitely does NOT say the world is 6,000 years old. That "fact" came from a monk in the middle ages who calculated backwards based on all the genealogies listed in the Bible, with a large helping of guess work and speculation, to say that Adam and Eve (and thus creation) was – drum roll – 6,000 years ago, more or less. Nowhere in Scripture will you find this assertion, yet many well-meaning people believe it says so (“I think somewhere in the Old Testament”), thus fueling the idea that Christians are ignoramuses in the face of evidence like the fossil record, archaeology, carbon dating, etc.
The Bible is a religious book, not a science book, yet both can rationally and peacefully coexist. In fact, many scientists are drawn to faith because of the undeniable and inexplicable design they find through the microscope or the telescope which points to a Creator. Ignorant people on both sides of the debate, unfortunately, use half-truths and distortions to paint the other side as stupid and wrong or intolerant and arrogant. “The Bible says the world is 6,000 years old” and “Science has disproven the Bible” are two of the most-common distortions uttered by either side.
Bottom line: The existence of God is not something which can be proven or disproven in a laboratory; that’s why it’s called faith.
When I read this letter in the alumni rag I came to the painful realization that--if there really is a god--there is no way in hell the Bears are ever going to get into a bowl game. No self respecting god is going to reward such arrogant idiocy that is proffered in his name.
2:21 Yet you believe something you read about a monk to be truth. Jesus speaking of his Father, our God, Thy word is truth. Dont believe the papers or books you read, believe and obey Gods word.
WHO CARES? Every religion, YES there is more than one, has their own opinions. The most simple minded people are "devout followers" of any religion. Seriously, when is the last time a Christian acknowledged that Islam could be true or a Jew said, "Ya know, Buddism could have some truth"?
The most narrow minded people are religious to the point where no other religion can have a shred of thruth.
So again, who cares?
What do Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, God, Allah, and Unicorns have in common?
i dont think christi really has a problem with how old the earth is, she, and her ilk, have a major problem with the fact that man evolved from apes (or ape-like creatures). that for sure doesnt jive with the Bible.
OK ok, Im sorry BG. I wont talk about monkeys anymo oh shoot its happening again a monk---and a ---key is making a change WOOOO this one might take 75,000 years to finish. POSTEM!
Did Albersons really buy land??? You go Christi!! The day will come when you will stand before the Lord. You will wish had believed then. I know where I will be how about the rest of you?? JOHN 3:16
Hi Mzchief,This is one of GOD's oldest friends who used to live with him until we had some words and he kicked me out....anyway,I heard he's gonna get you real soon and I was thinkin maybe you'd like to move on in at my place.
If you have maybe a gun or big bottle of pills handy and wanted to get here a little quicker we could save you a lot of time standing in line at those damn gates to only get rejected, the ass chewing, him hittin the BIG trap door button etc etc.
Barry...great book...Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff - Christ's Childhood Friend. It is genius. I think it is by Christopher Moore. Check it out.
Also, Mzchief...I could be wrong, but I think today marks the first time I have agreed with you. Well done, you have totally redeemed yourself...although you never replied back as to whether or not you are hawt.
This kind of thinking is consistent with those of the middle ages who thought the earth was the center of the universe because the bible says that God made the sun "stand still" in the sky. I believe it was Copernicus or Galileo who got in trouble with the inquisition on that one.
Also for those who want to take the Bible as literal truth I ask, do you poke out your eye if it offends you? Being a Christian does not mean you have stop thinking.
To anonymous 2:21... Your unsubstantiated claim that "many scientists are drawn to faith" is WRONG. According to a 1998 study of members of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) approximately 93% of scientists are atheist, agnostic or nontheist.
As for your other unsubstantiated claim that ""“The Bible says the world is 6,000 years old” and “Science has disproven the Bible” are two of the most-common distortions uttered by either side.", your blather is nearly as laughable as the unsubstantiated myths and fables thrown down by rabid Christians. Merely spouting platitudes based on little but your good intentions does NOTHING but make you appear as though you have failed to research the topic about which you are pontificating. *******************************

all of you will see one day when the one and only mighty savior comes and you will all confess his name. Jesus Christ in the only one we should be worshiping. without him, nothing would be here today. not the ground you stand on or even you yourself. i take comfort in knowing that one day i will spend eternity in heaven. john 3:16
To anonymous 4:11... Hmmmm....Are you a Catholic and buy into the three dogmatic Papal Cannons believed by Catholics?:
Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, Bull Cantate Domino, 1441: “The most Holy Roman Catholic Church firmly believes, professes, and preaches that none of those existing outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but also Jews, heretics and schismatics, can have a share in life eternal; but that they will go into the eternal fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless before death they are joined with Her; and that so important is the unity of this ecclesiastical body that only those remaining within this unity can receive an eternal recompense for their fasts, their almsgivings, their other works of Christian piety and the duties of a Christian soldier. No one, let his almsgiving be as great as it may, no one, even if he pour out his blood for the name of Christ, can be saved, unless he remain within the bosom and the unity of the Catholic Church.”
Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215: “With our hearts we believe and with our lips we confess but one Church, not that of the heretics, but the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church, outside which we believe that no one is saved.”
Pope Boniface VIII, Bull Unam Sanctum, 1302: “With Faith urging us we are forced to believe and to hold the one, holy, Catholic Church and that, apostolic, and we firmly believe and simply confess this (Church) outside which there is no salvation nor remission of sin…”
Perhaps you are are an ignorant Christian who does not have a clear understanding of Christianity and have yet to realize that Hell is NEVER referenced in The Big Book of Myths and Fables and did not become a part of Christian lore until the 1300's after Dante's poem, Inferno, became all the rage. There is the other fact that it clearly states, within The Big Book of Myths and Fables that God and only God knows who will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.
I do not believe any of the myths and fables, regarding salvation and what it takes to possess a Christian's Heaven Pass, spewed by any religion. Regarding your invitation to your "Bar-B-Que"; It is bad enough I have to share the planet with your ilk there is no way I would EVER willingly agree to join you ANYWHERE.
As a Catholic, I was taught to believe that God created the world from nothing. I dont need to waste my time wondering how old the world is. Its your choice. The Catholic Church leaves the question/answer of the age of the world up to the scholars and the scientists to debate over. Kind of makes the whole converation pointless. (Waiting for the Catholic bashings.......)
Miz, my "unsubstantiated claim" is based in part on watching my doctor wife come to faith in God as she studied the science of the human eye and became convinced that something so marvelous and complex pointed to intelligent design rather than time and chance.
You seem equal parts angry, sad, embittered and frustrated, based on many of your comments on this blog. I wish you peace.
"Choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my family, we will serve the Lord."
Where does the Bible say the earth is 6000 years old? The Biblical geneologies mean nothing, because the date of "our" creation is not mentioned.
Further, the geneologies are not the same geneologies we use today. They are more like important epochs. For example, there are three kings mentioned in the Bible, known to be direct ancestors of Jesus, that are NOT in the "geneology" of Jesus. What happened to them? These kings were not important enough to mention...kind of like James Polk.
Only the very most important ancestors, known at that time, were included.
Then, most importantly, the date of original creation is not mentioned in the Bible. What happened on the first day of modern creation? Light was produced.
That means at that time, "modern era", there was no light on earth...probably the earth was enveloped in dust, etc, from an asteriod inpact, volcanos, whatever. Plenty of scientific data for that. At the same time, the entire flora and fauna on the earth went through a profound change, just as laid out in the Bible. A new creation.
So on day one, light was revealed. But the Bible clearly says that the heavens, the earth, the void, water, were already in existance. The earth had been around a long time before the creation episode of Genesis was chronicled.
If the bible is to be taken literally then who did Cain mate with to populate the earth? No mention is made of any daughters for the first family. Does that mean that we are all the progeny of a mf?
8:16, the Bible clearly indicates that Adam and Eve were not the first people, and that there were already others around. Before some of you respond with Christian brimstone at what I just indicated, please go read your Bible first, and you'll see that God created "males and females" on the sixth day, not Adam and Eve.
Well just looking up into the dark night sky allows us to see back into time for millions of years. (Sorry, you have to understand something about light speed, etc. to get this comment) Doubt that everything is just a few thousand years old.
It never ceases to amaze me how the highest and mightiest, prim and proper, easily offended Christian girls are sometimes the most, well, I won't say but I think you know.
mzchief, it sounds like you are bitter. are you an athiest? it sounds like you dont believe in God.
the way you should look at all this after life and salvation stuff is like this:
if i am wrong about God; well, the jokes on me.
if i am right about God, Heaven, Hell, salvation etc - well it wont be a very funny joke for you for eternity.
even still, if you are an athiest, that means you know without a doubt that there is no God and/or no higher power exists. And that makes you pretty much ALL KNOWING yourself. and if you know that much, well........wow....to know there is no God........
A thoughtful, intelligent Christian believes in Christ as the son of God - NOT some spewed theology from a church denomination.
Perhaps MzChief has had personal experience with the hyprocisy she has witnessed from many Christians. Some of the comments on this board prove that one.
To anonymous 7:28... Your anecdotal, personal experience with your "doctor wife" and what amounts to a handful of what you call "scientists" in no way constitutes, "many scientists."
As for your observations regarding my comments. A significant portion of my comments are lighthearted and humour based. Since you incorrectly assessed my personality allow me to grant you some insight from the person whose personality you have spent so much time observing. I frequently post FACTUALLY based comments in an attempt to provide INFORMATION in an attempt to lessen the IGNORANCE with which the world is rife. Unfortunately, I have a very low tolerance for STUPIDITY which cannot be cured with information. Stupid people ignore FACTS and continue, due to being STUPID, walking around being STUPID. In your case, I am not certain if it is because you are arrogant or mentally deficient. The root cause of your unwillingness to accept FACTS is inconsequential because it does not change you being STUPID.
I certainly hope your "doctor wife" has far superior, than you, skills of observation and deductive reasoning.
******************************* To anonymous 8:53... You delusional Christians just cannot get it through your head that Christians do not have sole proprietorship of God. I have such FAITH in God that I do not require man made rules and myths and fables to believe in God. I actually KNOW the history of religion and the history of The Big Book of Myths and Fables which explains why, unlike you, I am not impressed by the compilation of the religious myths and fables of prior civilizations. To be truthful, I am offended by the Christian religion because I believe Christianity marginalizes God and requires Christians to worship a zombiefied mythical martyr.
Incidentally, believing in God to hedge your bets is NOT faith.
Since it applies to you, be certain to read my above comment regarding STUPID people.
Agian I say Mzchief only knows God and about any of this because she read the bible. She may sound smart but she is scared and running, running to things she has found written by men, statistics written by men. Mzchief being wise is not always good little girl living a makebelieve world.
Is there any more ignorance in being a devote believer and follower in a religion, whether it be Christianity or Judaism or Buddhism or Mormon, then there is in being an atheist or agnostic or trusting in science? Why am I more ignorant for believing in Jesus Christ then someone else who believes that we evolved from apes and that science trumps God? At the end of the day, we all have to put our chips in and chose to believe something, and at true end of the day, some of us are going to be right and some are going to be wrong. I just think it's more ignorant to call someone ignorant for their beliefs when they stand so strong that they're right and others are wrong. I'm a Christian, and I can respect other people's right to chose, can acknowledge that there is likely some truth in all religions, and co-exist with others at the same time.
They do coexist together right now, and if theres a right theres always a wrong. One body-the church-the total of one = one, not many. Thats not hard math. If we dont go by Gods word then we make up our own by science or whatever, then it becomes our own rightiosness and that cant save anyone. If not Gods word then what do we have?
1. The term 'Sole Proprietorship' doesn't make any sense in this case. And I haven't read anyone's comments here where they feel that Christian's have a sole proprietorship (your words) of God.
2. Where do I find the book 'The Big Book of Myths and Fables'? If you are referring to the Holy Bible, then you do not impress me by thinking that you know 100% without a doubt that those stories are FICTION and not FACT. For you to believe scripture in the Bible is all FICTION once again tells me that you must be ALL KNOWING to be able to make such a proclamation....wow....
3. How does Christianity marginalize God? It is you who marginalize God.
4. What makes me a delusional Christian?
5. Man didn't make the rules, God did. They are called the 10 Commandments.
I have "The Gospel According to Biff", but nothing beats the old article from The New Yorker, "The Gospel According to Debbie". http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2004/03/15/040315sh_shouts No matter what faith or denomination, this is funny stuff.
Aren't religious discussions fun! The truth is hard so you need a plan. Just keep juggling your credit cards until December 21 2012. On December 20, 2012, become a Christian and you are all covered. See, you don't have to do good, just join and pay your 10%.
Dammitt!! I should have read this earlier..yall have PISSED MZCREEP AKA Lovie and Thurston Off..she was using the Bold letters again..its okay Lovie..relax and dont take it out on Thurston..go eat a Bon Bon and rub your lap dog and eat some Unicorn Heart..There is nothing in the World I enjoy better in Life than when you guys get Her wound up..if i had to hold a conversation for more that 30 mins w/ her i would slip in a back room and take a 2x4 and beat myself in the Nuts..Stay hard and keep jammin Lovie, see on the course.
10:38, 11:36, and 12:40! Thank you for your words here. You've expressed what many Christians feel, and Mzchief just can't quite "get it!" She blasts Christians for saying "Jesus' way is the right way."....... but she in turn believes SHE has the only correct belief. That, my friends, is hypocrisy. Happy to see more Christians speaking up on here.

Let us not forget Pope Benedict XVI, reasserting the primacy of the Catholic Church, Jul 10, 2007.
2;32
WELL SAID
BU LAW 1982
Is there a reason why are you NOT posting my comments? What is it?
If the bible is to be taken literally then who did Cain mate with to populate the earth? No mention is made of any daughters for the first family. Does that mean that we are all the progeny of a mf?
Just Wonderin'
8:03----
Don't feel like the lone ranger. I guess I'm black-balled too. Here's my comment that got the axe:
"Does this girl ever ponder how Noah got the dinosaurs and Oprah on the same boat?"
Did anyone else notice where this girl is from?
mzchief,
it sounds like you are bitter.
are you an athiest? it sounds like you dont believe in God.
the way you should look at all this after life and salvation stuff is like this:
if i am wrong about God; well, the jokes on me.
if i am right about God, Heaven, Hell, salvation etc - well it wont be a very funny joke for you for eternity.
even still, if you are an athiest, that means you know without a doubt that there is no God and/or no higher power exists. And that makes you pretty much ALL KNOWING yourself. and if you know that much, well........wow....to know there is no God........
5:16, thanks for proving my point about narrow mindedness. Appreciate it.
Why is religion such a hot button issue? Because everyone feels they are right and everyone else is wrong.
beavercreek, ohio, eh? thats all we need - some flat headed yankee comin' down here tellin' us we have it all wrong
Danny Boy - good points.
A thoughtful, intelligent Christian believes in Christ as the son of God - NOT some spewed theology from a church denomination.
Perhaps MzChief has had personal experience with the hyprocisy she has witnessed from many Christians. Some of the comments on this board prove that one.
I wish her well.
Ever wonder why religious fundamentalists are so loyal to the creation story, the 6,000 year age of the earth, etc?

I wish I had been commenter 69
Agian I say Mzchief only knows God and about any of this because she read the bible. She may sound smart but she is scared and running, running to things she has found written by men, statistics written by men. Mzchief being wise is not always good little girl living a makebelieve world.
10:38 and the big book of hogwash wasn't written by man? LOL that's funny!!!!
10:52 written by men inspired by God. You know what i meant.
If not Gods word then what do we have?

mzchief:
Science without religion is lame. Religion without science is blind.........Einstein
Creation Moments takes on the whole science w/o religion thing.
http://www.creationmoments.com/radio/archives.php
Provides a vast amount of scientific evidence for the Bible and literal truths.
Wow, nothing quite like a religious discussion to stir us up.
This confirms why we have so many church denominations in Wise County.
If we could all get along, think how much money we could save?
I have "The Gospel According to Biff", but nothing beats the old article from The New Yorker, "The Gospel According to Debbie". http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2004/03/15/040315sh_shouts
No matter what faith or denomination, this is funny stuff.
Thank you 10:05
WE WIN! MZchief quit.
I take the Bible far too seriously to interpret it literally.
Makes me proud to be a Feces Slingin Chimp..no Tulip Talk here...
LOL!! I hear ya, 6:38!! You're in good company!
