Former Decatur resident Andy Mattison passed away last night. He apparently collapsed on a softball field in North Richland Hills. No other details were readily available.
I noted that he was on the 1997 Decatur Eagle Football Roster.

Another tragedy for a beautiful family.
I beleive Andy graduated from DHS in 1999. His brother Chris was class of '98.
This is just awful news! Very very sad! Our hearts go out to his mother, who incidently lost her husband less than a year ago and her mother only a few months ago. Our prayers are with you all during this very, very sad time.
I remember Andy in school, he was Sooo smart and funny in my class. I feel such pain for Teresa, Chris and Cory. They have been through a lot, may the Lord watch over them. I also feel for his group of friends, John, Michael, Lance, Trey, Eric, etc. I know they will miss him dearly. It seems like those boys have always been there for each other.
andy was an amazing athlete, i enjoyed playing softball with with....its such a tragedy to see him leave at such an early age. this ought to remind us to live every single second of our lives to the fullest because we never know when it could end. our prayers go out to the mattison family!!
Someone please help me be sure. I think this is the same Andy who rented a house from me here in Decatur. I really liked him...good guy. Has to be him, because he always had baseball/softball gear in the house. His father recently passed away too, I think. That's really tough to take. Too young. :-(
I'm so very sorry to hear the news about Andy. A terrific young man and great athlete. I have many fond memories of Andy on the baseball field. My prayers go out to his surviving family.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Andy for a long time. I went to school with Cory and remember the little brothers that wanted to be with us every second.
has anyone heard of why/what caused this??.....could it have been a heat stroke b/c these boys are die hard players and it gets sooooo hot out there playing
MO, WERE GONNA MISS YA BUDDY... WE'VE ALL BEEN SO MUCH TOGETHER THROUGH THE YEARS, AND UNFORTUNATELY WE WERE REMINISSING TODAY AND THERE'S NOT A DAMN STORY ONE WE CAN TELL OUT LOUD WITHOUT INCRIMINATING ALL OF US! BUT WE ALL HOLD THE GOOD TIMES AND THE BAD TIMES WE'VE HAD WITH EACH OTHER IN OUR HEART, AND THATS WHERE WE WILL KEEP YOU TOO MO... IN OUR HEART, I'M A BETTER PERSON TODAY FOR THE THINGS WE'VE BEEN THROUGH TOGETHER, WE'LL RAISE THOSE BOYS JUST LIKE YOU WOULD HAVE MO. WE'LL MISS YOU ANDREW NEIL!!!
He was the most amazing person. I am thanful for having known him and his family....he taught me more about life than anyone I have ever met. Our crazy adventures will never be forgotten and I will truely miss him. my heart goes out to his boys and his family I know there will never be anyone like Andy Mattison because he was one of a kind.
Teresa,Cory,Chris and the entire Mattison/Christian family...
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time; words can't express my sympathy for you all...My heart is so saddened and it hurts for the pain you are going thru; its such a tragedy to everyone especially the family and many many friends in Decatur and all over; for Andy touched many lives and will be in our hearts forever...I so wish it was just a nightmare dream to just wake up from for his family and friends...
He was so talented as you all know just like his mom, and family.I played softball with Teresa and the Christian family years ago and the moment I saw her children pick up a ball it was so visible they were athletes.
My daughter graduated with Andy and was good friends with him; she remembers all the fond memories of high school with him.
God please be with this family, give them strength not only today but always during this difficult time...God please be with Teresa she has been thru so much....

I will miss your sarcastic humor and high energy. I am so blessed to have known you and to have had the privileged to be your friend. Not everyone is touched by someone the way Scooge and I have been and for that we are grateful. Scooge lost a brother when he lost you. You know what your friendship meant to the both of us, and you will be deeply missed.
We Love You Mo!!! You were a great friend, great father, and a great son... I'll never forget our one on one basketball and long talks!!! May You Rest In Peace!!! You'll Be Missed!!!

Yes, we found that out this morning upon awakening around 6. He graduated with my son in 1999.
Andy was a great man! He always lit up the room with his great personality! Truly a great loss for family and friends!

Also, did you see in yesterday's Update that the DHS Class of 1999 10 Year high school class reunion is scheduled for Friday?
I guess it will be nice for that group to be together during a sad week.
So sorry for his family.

I didn't know him but am very sorry to hear this happened.
Too young. Hidden illness?
