Potter's House Is A Good Gig

T.D. Jake is the pastor of the huge Potter's House church in Dallas. For some reason, his sunroom exploded over the weekend. But I got caught up in the fact that the pastor has a 15,000 square foot home. The only address the story gave was "8400 block of Meadowbrook Drive" and the above satellite view shows some big ol' houses in that neighborhood.

Always a great gig to find a whole lot of people that are willing to give you a lot of their money so you can live high style. But hey, nobody has a gun to those people who give it up when asked.

I am pretty sure the Rev bought the house from the writer Sandra Brown.

Glad I could help.

Just another example of how churches expend their money. A 15,000 sq ft house at a cheap $125 a foot amounts to some $2 million value - without the swimming pool and other accessories and real estate. Explain to me again how this is following Jesus’ teachings? These preachers and the boards who distribute their members' contributions are just scam artists!

Jake's properties on Meadowbrook Dr. (in the name of Vandalia Revocable Trust), according to TAD.org, have the following TAX values:
8416 Meadowbrook: $6,444,400.00
8408 Meadowbrook: $97,500.00
8424 Meadowbrook: $991,600.00

God wants all of us to live on $7.5M compounds; he just wants the preacher to have it a little more than he wants you to have it.

It's pretty much the same in all churches - doesn't matter the denomination.

It's just more big business.

Let's not forget that Bishop Jake has made plenty of money writing books

All of you have no idea what you are talking about. Read your bible. The blessing of Abraham are upon us. Give and it will be given to you, pressed down, shaken together and running over. God blesses those who bless others.
Don't worry about you being bothered about finances...you will remain poor and ignorant.

Just wonder what GOD thinks when he looks down and sees rich preachers living it up bling bling and all..then he sees all the dirt poor folks that the tithe and offering are supposed to go to help..i'm guessing he has a barry "power down" just shaking his head.Shame on all the preacher's living high on the hog while the folks that give the money eats pigs feet.Makes me sick to my stomach..just like greedy people that live off others misfortune and suffering...gonna be a reckoning one day..even if its laying on a death bed with plenty of time to think about it.

Good points 11:06...and I wonder what God thinks about all these churches being built these days - it takes a lot of money to keep building them, maintaining them, paying staff, etc.

And most of it is about entertainment anyway. There is just enough said about God to call it a church.

Me first and consumer religion.

You are right - there will be a reckoning day.

11.06 Miss Tonya,

Well at least I don't get the church to pay my electric bill month after month, so that I can use my own money to texture and paint my house. That's not right.

I wonder what GOD thinks about passing judgement. It's really not for you to worry about what God thinks of him, you should be more worried of what God thinks of YOU.

Tonya said...

We are not supposed to judge. that is what God will do. If anyone of these preachers have done something wrong then they will be judged on judgement day. Do you really think that all of the wealth is supposed to be for the actors and drug dealers? Think about it for a minute. Some people are just BLESSED!!

A flight attendant spoke with one of the millionair preachers who was flying first class. She asked him how is it that her grandmother gives 10 percent of her social security check to that preacher, eats dinner out of tin cans and he lives in an expensive house and flys first class. The way I read the Bible is that these preachers will burn in hell.

Yeah, just like your church doesn't pass judgement when you speak against gay marriage.

I won't judge your preacher and his big house if you won't judge gay people. Deal?

Tonya,
Don't what me. You know exactly what I'm talking about. So, have you got your house in shape to sell yet? With the help of the church paying your electric bill all winter?

Two words.
Kenneth. Copeland.
Until you have seen his place from the water at Eagle Mountain lake....you've seen nothing.
Unless of course you've seen Bobby Tilton's place.
If you are a member at one of these mega-churches, I think at some point you have to ask yourself "where is my money going?"

I love wealth...love wealthy people...what a great country that people can obtain wealth without a bunch of jealous busybodies worrying that someone has more than they do. I suggest you guys sit on your couch and complain about the wealthy...and I will get out there and try to obtain wealth...then you can complain and I can take it easy. I am sure there will eventually be enough deadbeats in the country to destoy everyone's chance at wealth but it isn't quite here yet. But eventually the parasites will overtake the host then everyone can starve together and stand around the burning barrel and talk about how much better things are now that those mean old evil rich people are gone...change you can believe in.

Just go ahead and get offended by the Bible, nothing in there offends me. I know the truth.

Pastor refuses to take any money from the church. All of his income is from sales from his books.

Hey, 2:45.

I don't think it's the wealth people are frustrated with. It's the means in which they acquire it.
Stealing and lying is stealing and lying.

These mega-church CEOs steal and lie for a living.....the bad part is that they prey on the elderly who have been told their money is going elsewhere....not to swimming pools and 15,000 square foot houses.

You would think that the lord would "speak" to them and tell them to spend the money in a different way.

to whoever you are. you really don't know me at all. you are judging me on what you think you know. yes, the church helped me with an electric bill. i am not selling my house and the only texturing that has been done in my house is a room that needed some repairs. texture at lowe's is less than $7.00. i have plans for what i do want to do with my home and i may express that to my FRIENDS. please let me know the next time you see me who you are so i will know who my friends are not

I'm not sure you are correct, 3:29 about them stealing or lying, but I do think they are sending a horrible message. They preach this gospel that if you give to "the church", you will get earthly riches (i.e. cash and "stuff") which is NOT in any way, shape, or form, what God meant. They preach the prosperity gospel, which obviously only works for the few and not for the many, who also give their money. Bottom line: you can't expect God to make you rich because you give money to the "church". Your riches lie in other things, not material ones. A sad misconception embraced by many who can't afford to give a dime, and shouldn't. And those who prey off them by taking that money will no doubt suffer the wrath.

It rankles me a bit to laud a bombastic a*hole like Bill Maher. He did, however, nail the industry that is organized religion down cold in "Religulous." A lot of the previous comments read like they could have been made by any one of the poor souls that Maher interviewed for his flick.

3:29 - these "mega" churches do not only steal money, they steal minds. Ignorance attracts folks to these churches.

That's why they are growing.

Regrettably.

3:15pm Who are you?

Heard it on KLUV with Jody and the morning show. Checked it out on Jades' website before saying anything.

Who I am is not as important as the facts. Check it yourself.

I agree 3:29. The message tends to be that there is only one way, and we have a corner on it, so listen to us and give, give, give. That appeals to those who don't know how to question and think for themselves, but want to be told what to believe and then just suck it in. No where are we told to be blind, unthinking followers. I believe in God, but he gave us a brain to use, and organized religion doesn't require one.

Anonymous said...

Not sure I quite understand your last sentence 4:33 - there is nothing wrong with organized religion IF those who are a part of it, do in fact think for themselves. I question a lot of things about the church that I am a part of, but do not worship that particular denomination. We have a right to go to our church officials and question what they are doing or not doing.

Any church that preaches "one way" or "you are in hell", is using mind control. That is so wrong.

Thanks for your post.

I heard from a good source on the Internet that the pastor's wife with the purple hair on the Trinity Network actually spends around $10,000 per month on her hair. Whereas Jakes doesn't spend anything for his hair needs.

Yes, those that know the Bible know the truth. Yes, those with the Book Of Mormon, know the truth. Yes, those radical lovable Muslims, have the Koran, they know the truth. Yes, Wickens know the truth. Yes, all real religions know the truth. The Real truth it looks like is the one religion picked, and who you ask about it. Yes, Limbaughism even knows the truth. Talent on loan from God and so forth.

6:59, I've read your post several times, and at no point did a rational thought ever try to manifest itself.
Please do not elaborate....just give the computer back to your dad and go get ready for summer school tomorrow.

Honestly, I like these mega churches. I can't afford to go to a nightclub, so these places are the next best thing.

Chug down a shot of vodka, hear a rock band and get hugged a bunch.

Can't beat that!

Speaking of lying and stealing...the government took a lot more from me than I gave to the church. At least the church gave me a choice.

And since all faith is based on stuff that can't be proven...whose to say who the liars are in religion?

"Speaking of lying and stealing...the government took a lot more from me than I gave to the church. At least the church gave me a choice."

Must make you prochoice.
What about those churches that send you a statement about how much you need to tithe?
