Let's Examine This

This pic was in the Messenger last Wednesday (in the paper's Thursday edition that was released online on Tuesday) in connection with DPS's new commercial vehicle inspection station in Decatur. Does this guy duck once the truck gets closer? Once he's down there is he trapped while the truck sits over him? If there's another entrance to the subterranean inspection area, why wouldn't he use it? And I love this:
While the inspections take about 30 minutes, Cox said drivers are usually cooperative with troopers, especially during Roadcheck. "It's rare that we encounter a driver that has a less than positive attitude about what we're doing," he said. "They understand that our primary goal is safety."
What's the secondary goal? To demonstrate that The Man can pull over trucks in Wise County at will?

Have you never been to a oil change place? Same thing.

And they need to be pulled over. Truckers will not police themselves, somebody needs to.

I believe the true order is.....Revenue,power and safety falls in there somewhere down the line, but the greatest of these is REVENUE!!!!!

A staged photo.

The Primary goal is revenue. They target companies that pay their fines and ignore the illegal aliens driving rock trucks because they never get any money out of them.

Let's get rid of all cops and all road rules for a week. Let's announce to all of America that "anything goes". And then let's see how fast all you haters are BEGGING for the "man" to be back on the job. We are too stupid and careless to do without being controlled. We just are. And even if YOU aren't dumb and are perfectly capable of applying common sense to driving, it doesn't matter. The reason it doesn't matter is because there is probably an idiot ahead of you, beside you, or behind you that will happily kill you while killing themselves.

Of course the drivers are cooperative. They know the more they complain about being forced to go thru an inspection the more things they will be written up for.

If the goal was safety they would be inspecting every vehicle on the road, not just trucks.

Trucks = $$$.

the wise county pig trap, what a waste of money and time for everyone.

Is 2:59 PM somehow involved in law enforcement? Married to one? One yourself?

Yup... just go take an informal survey of some of the wrecks that drivers and operators pass off as Semi-s. And then you will see why we progressively went from informal checks, to a semi-formal inspection station, then to a formal inspection station.

Piss and moan about it all you want, there are still waaay to many scrap heaps out there hauling for the crushers or the patch.

As for the photo... Barry, he is standing there to direct the trucker. He will walk down the stairs he is standing on after the truck shuts down.

The secondary goal is to keep all the Juans from coming over faster than they already are.

As a truck driver I have had the privilege of wasting 30+ minutes while DOT inspects my truck. I work for a large American trucking firm. Every day I see Mexican-owned trucks fly up and down the highway. These companies run unsafe, unregistered and uninsured trucks on American roads every day. Most of the drivers have no CDL-equivalent license. Most do not know even minor traffic laws. Most people do not comprehend the threat these vehicles pose to other motorists. The Mexican trucks are old death traps with no brakes and faulty equipment. Good luck if you see one on the road, be sure and go the other direction!

Well certainly alot of haters here.... my family owns and operates in the transportation industry and we know without a shadow of doubt our trucks are safe so we welcome the break for the inspection. If you know that your truck is in tip top shape then why bitch if you get inspected? I would rather pay for something that should have been fixed then my land taxes going up to pay for damage done to the road by a truck driver that didn't care to keep his/her truck in compliance with the state. Why should everyone suffer because some truck drivers do not inspect before they get on the road?

10:18pm, you sir most certainly "get it".

8:59pm... spot on about Mexican Trucks.

8:59 said it! DPS needs to go after the Mexican NAFTA trucks instead of the American Teamster drivers.

The drivers should call OSHA on this guy. He is more unsafe than the trucks he's inspecting.

He needs Junior to hold his hat so it wont fall into the open pit.

Anonymous said...

DPS cars are just as big POS as some rock trucks.

Is the Federation of Independent Truckers (F.I.S.T.) aware of this? I think it's high time they call Ken Kercheval, their union attorney, and put an end to this!

I say good for them said...

Wow....lots of hatin' going on. I don't have a problem with them. They've pulled me over 3 or 4 times and have always been professional and the only time I got a ticket was when I didn't have a valid registration. Can't say that's too horribly bad. Also, bet you guys didn't know that for every time they pull me or one of my other two trucks over and we pass the inspection, I can turn that in to my insurance and get a break on my safety profile which lowers my insurance. Give 'em a break, guys. Every one of us has raised hell about the rock trucks here and yet, when we finally get a facility to handle it, you want to raise hell about that. One last thing, to all you "mexican truck" haters. Last time I got inspected over in Bridgeport they absolutely hammered a couple of mexican-owned rigs. So don't be putting out all the BS about the mexicans getting away with anything. You're only seeing what you want to see through your redneck-colored glasses.

Hey.....I want some redneck colored glasses. That sounds cool.

money is the driving factor. as to comment about getting the illegals off the road the best they can do is to write a ticket for not speaking english. i am glad they do this i just wish they would get the ones that really need it and then publish the companies names and violations in the paper so that the driving public is informed

Anonymous said...

2:22 will lose his job to those illegals.

Anonymous said...

it ain't the trucks..it's the retards doing the driving!!(goes for cars too)

He's just doing his job,... he's the highway patrol.
