all madoff did was run a private version of social security. the only difference is you have no choice when the government does it. madoff investors chose to unvest with him.
Read an interesting story about Madoff and his support of the GOP party during W's first term. Early regulators didn't follow-up on complaints and thus additional reports weren't checked.
