Sissies 48, Llano 38

And it looks like they will play Decatur on Tuesday night in Saginaw. Good times. Edit: The game has been moved to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Texas Woman's University in Denton. Edit: And the outdated picture comes from Decatur High School's current "Lady Eagle Basketball" page.

Did the Decatur team make a poor choice of uniforms or are those chicks really fat?

Two outstanding teams.......congratulations to both and good luck in the next round girls!!!!

They will meet for the 3rd time. Decatur upset the 7th ranked team in state in overtime. Gotta luv that rivalry.

Bridgeport beat Llano last night in front of a standing room only Bridgeport side of the gym with both Varsity and JV cheerleading squads. Llano's side of the gym was only about 25% occupied and no cheerleaders.

I will guarantee you that won't be the case Tuesday night against Decatur. If this game was played in Iraq, it would be packed on both sides.

What is a Sissy? Is it a female bull? What the heck?

GO EAGLES!!!!!!

Sissies....exactly....what the heck, those girls deserve a better name, mascot, whatever....who is responsible for this travesty!!! It’s tough to be taken seriously when your called a “Sissy”, I guess that is what makes them ultra bad-@ss!!!!

Anonymous said...

that decatur picture is from some other year because lacey oates has graduated.

Anonymous said...

BG - why post bridgeport's score and not decatur's? decatur had the biggest game as they upset a team. bridgeport squeeked by yet another team.
don't be surprised if it's decatur playing at texas tech next weekend.

Learn your history. Used to be the Bullies and the Sissies. Then it was the Bulls and the Sissies. Then a horrid coach came in and changed it to the Lady Bulls. Now what the heck is a Lady Bull? Finally, history and tradition prevailed and it was changed back to the Sissies a few years ago. What a wonderful, history making season, this senior class has made. The Bulls go 12-1 and broke all kinds of records and now the Sissies are 31-1 and still rolling. Both records likely never broken.

Oh and the Decatur Messenger is still the Decatur Messenger. "The Decatur girls basketball team upset 7th-ranked China Spring 52-51 in overtime and Bridgeport held off Llano for a 48-38 victory Friday." Held off??? The Sissies dominated that team.

Go Sissies, make it 3-0 against Decatur and go to Lubbock!!! We'll support you there too.

Excuse me Abbyabnormal - the Sissies did change their name a few years back, then went back to Sissies. And with these girls, it isn't what the name might mean (to some)........ They are great girls and outstanding players.

Read 1:58's post again. Those are the facts.

Anonymous said...

1:58, my history has nothing to do with Bullies and Sissies. Why do you think it does?

Anonymous said...

Boy Howdy! The city of Rhome and Saginaw will have a field day with the revenue they make off the parents of these kids traveling to the game with traffic tickets! They could not have picked a better location for economic stimulus for the 2 most notorious speed traps! Look for new Dodge Charger patrol cars and Ford F-250 water / sewer trucks for both cities coming soon!

The name "Sissie" is an old school term for the sister in the family. Bubba was the term for the brother.

1:43 Yeah, they have managed to squeek by 31 times this year, you freakin' idiot!

Anonymous said...

3:18, you actually think 1:34 was serious? C'mon now, get with it if you're going to be on here. And by the way, 1:58's post are not the facts. My history does not include all the stuff 1:58 listed. I'm not from around here. I'm from the east side of Chicago, here on vacation.

BG- the sissies squeaked by???!!! winning by 10 doesn't sound like "squeaked" by...the eagles won by 1...hmmmm??? 30-1 sure is "squeaking" by many teams

Anonymous said...

The Messenger staff might want to re-think all those pictures of the Decatur girls and no Bridgeport pics....seems like in this economy you would not want to hack-off an entire town and their winning basketball team. Go Sissies!

Anonymous said...

anon 1:58 - beating a team by 10 points in basketball, and trailing in the first quarter, is not domination.

we live in bridgeport and i think the WCM has covered us very well this year, so i'm not sure where you are getting your facts from.

and until we hammer a team like state-ranked teams should do to other teams, i would not reserve a room in lubbock or austin just yet. heck, we were lucky to get get by decatur one time, lucky to get by hirschi and lucky to get by iowa park, which didnt even make the playoffs.

i love this team to death, but i'm not afraid to think with my head and my heart.

thank you WCM for all you do

1:42 - and Kayla Slimp has graduated, and Lindsey Thompson no longer works at DHS, and....

Last year's picture.

Anonymous said...

And a not-so-horrid coach tried to change it to "Lady Maroon" a few years back (maybe 16 years back) to save some face (who wants to be a Sissy or a Lady Bull???) but after a couple years of her (first at BHS) softball season, they changed it back to Sissy.

I understand tradition and all, but really? A Sissy? Really? Ugh!

Anonymous said...

according to the "update" the decatur boys won their playoff playoff saturday, but its not posted here. is it because its not the bridgeport boys? i guess we have a decatur messenger and a bridgeport liberally lean

Bigwillie said...

1:43. Um I would like to know what your definition of squeeked would be. Cause the sissies won by 10, should have been 20 but we like to stall. And to buzzards only won by One. In overtime! You obviously graduated from Decatur.

Pow Pow!

Anonymous said...

When has a ten point win in b-ball becoming a "squeaking by" victory? Back in my day, we were lucky to score 10 points in a game.

Double Fake Dr. James Naismith

Anonymous said...

to the first commenter---most of those girls are a little chub.

Anonymous said...

I heard said the Foreman girl decided to not finish the season?

Anonymous said...

At least it's not the eagles. There's probably no less than a hundred eagles in the state of Texas alone. How unique is that? There is only one team named the Bulls and only one named the Sissies and only one team headed to Lubbock next weekend and it ain't the eagles!!!

Queen B said...

Oh yeah...bring it on! The Sissies are rocking this year!!!

Anonymous said...

The Foreman girl decided not to play BEFORE the season. She never played or practiced with this year's team.

4:59 LUCKY??? You can catch a break on a play or two, but what about the rest of the game? Don't write off the Sissies' relentless drive to win as luck. That is unfair to the team you profess to love. Their fighting heart is the real story to this year's team. Also I don't know of anyone that is predicting a trip to Austin.

And the reason that you're kissing the WCM's butt is? Maybe your not really from Bridgeport? It's not what the the WCM says as it is how they say it and what is not said.

Some of the players' parents are afraid to comment on this bias because they are concerned that their child's rep as a player might be compromised by the WCM in post season awards. WHAT A JOKE!! Any award given by the WCM has ZERO impact on whether a kid gets a scholarship.

Anonymous said...

And the Lady Eagles used to be called the E-gals! >>retch<< Long ago sports writer changed their name because supposedly if you called the girls team the LADY Eagles, then you must refer to the boys team as the GENTLEMEN Eagles.
Such BS! Finally, a coach with some sense come to DHS and said, "We are the LADY EAGLES, period!" Been that way ever since, thank goodness!

Anonymous said...

Geeze...can't we get pictures of the right teams?

Anonymous said...

I ownder how much Decatur ad revenue is brought in on the part of the WISE COUNTY Messenger vs. that of the surrounding communities?

Hmmmmm! Something else to think about.

Anonymous said...

If you are going to put a picture on here you need to make sure you have all the players in it and not last years picture where half of them have already graduated high school. OH YA ... Why don't they have the trainers in the pictures with the girls? They have to put their time in to. Go to all the games and wait on them hand and foot. They do not get any appreciation for what they do for those girls.

i went to the Iowa Park game between Decatur. It was a very good game. I would have enjoyed it more if the PARENTS would have watched their children and not let them run around and knock other kids down the stairs. I was bumped into twice and the little Partridge kid needed his bottom busted. But his parents would not know that because they let him run around, pushing kids down the steps and being a BRAT. As they watched their daughter play a good game the rest of us who sat on the other end of the bleachers were not so lucky. I think if you take your child to the game make them sit down and watch it. They might learn something. The game is not a BABYSITTING place. My mom was so mad by the end of the game she wanted to go speak with the kids parents but I stopped her.

As to the person making a commet about the Decatur Lady Eagles uniforms, I have not seen any uniform from any of the schools look great on anybody. So don't single out Decatur. You might want to look at Bridgeports team to. They look the same. This is a sport not a FASHION show. I would like to see you in one of the unifoms and look like a size 0.

Anonymous said...

8:55 you have no clue. my daughter was on the awesome tea we had the one year we were lucky yo have coach jeff guice. and yes, we still live her.
just because we are from bridgeport and love living in bridgeport, does not mean we cannot enjoy the best newspaper in the county.
also, the WCM only deals with one award and has no influence on the rest except maybe all-state like they did in football. but, getting all-county awards does look good on an athletes resume, and i know because it help ours.

you are clueless.

Anonymous said...

comparing decatur winning by 1 and bridgeport only winning by 10 is a dumb comparison. decatur played the 7th ranked team in the state, bridgeport's victim was/is unranked. you should win by 10, but if you are the real deal, you should win by 30.

GO DRAGONS!

Tuesday night will prove evertything
1) Bridgeport Will WIN
2) Bridgeport Will bring more fans
3) Bridgeport Will have the better student section
4) And finally bring your brooms because the sissies Will sweep the lady eagles

Anonymous said...

2:31 Is there any way you could translate your comment into English? I can follow Ebonics better than that gibberish.

Anonymous said...

2:34 Why are you mixing in an arguement over wins? The last imput we would consider concerning winning would be from Chico. And the only thing that you would know less about than winning is what constitutes a "real deal".

Anonymous said...

2:31, I'd have guessed in a heartbeat that you were from B'port. Did you ever graduate?

"awesome tea we had the one year we were lucky yo have coach jeff guice. and yes, we still live her."

When I click on the Decatur link, I see the team that won on Friday night against China Springs... Quite a win against a very good China Springs team. Secondly, we should be proud of both of these teams for their willingness to lay it on the line every night that they step on the court. One of these teams will represent Wise county in Lubbock this next week and both sides, players and fans, should feel honored for that accomplishment! As far as the trainers...there is a picture reserved for them in the yearbook every year. They are told every day how much they are appreciated by players and coaches...Just because they aren't in the picture doesn't mean they aren't appreciated...and if your daughter feels that way, then she is there for the wrong reason anyway. Lastly, who cares about the uniforms...What a petty remark! They are all beautiful young women inside and out. Again...not seeing this blog for what it was intended to be! Thanks Barry for recognizing a super group of young ladies from Wise County and their accomplishments!

Anonymous said...

Way to Mer!! Your cuz is sending you some love!!!

Anonymous said...

Congratulations to the Sissies and Lady Eagles! Both are great teams.

Living in Wise County makes you proud to support either or both of these teams! It has taken these ladies lots of time, practice and hard work to get where they are today!

Good luck to both teams!

Come on people. Give the new WISE
County Messenger a chance. Remember, there are new owners, not the hold over DECATUR owner that favored everything for Decatur. If the new owners are going to stay with WISE County Messenger, maybe they will be more favorable to ALL of Wise County.
ALL schools have good things happening and lets also remember that these are our WISE COUNTY STUDENTS and lets support them.
I am proud of You.

What win a few games and you are the same as Decatur in footbal and basketball? What about the past 10 years?

Anonymous said...

3:11 Win a few games? Sounds like someone is trying to find refuge in denial. What about the last 50 years? That would be just as relevant. The team last year is a different team than this year and this year's team will be different from next year's team. Just take your medicine. This year you got your butt kicked in football and girls basketball.

Anonymous said...

As to the comment about the trainers not being appreciated. I have sat and watched several games boys and girls and have never seen one player say Thank you to any of the trainers. Basketball, Football, softball, Baseball, Track and so on. I do not have a child that is a that is a trainer. i just think that the players should show some appreciation toward the hard working people and for what they do for the Players. I have watched these girls work hard and they are there because they want to be a part of the Team. I see the Coaches always say "Good Job So ans SO". Never have I seen them say thank you to their trainer. And I think that the players forget that to. I am just saying why not take the time and say Thank You once and see how those trainers will appreciate being acknowleded for their contribution.

Anonymous said...

Well Put 7:49.

And besides, are the basketball players in the trainer group photo? Probably not - then why should the trainers be in the basketball team photo. Sounds a little odd don't you think.

They are ALL hard working girls. They all deserve respect.

It's too bad that everyone in this community is more concerned with all the sports in lieu of the acadmics. The academics definitely get you farther in life. If parents were more concerned with actually mattered in schools, perhaps many of the seniors leaving for major universities wouldn't be coming back in December because they couldn't hack the university demands....think about it...

Anonymous said...

The only ones coming back are the athletes - wait I didn't say that!

Anonymous said...

I think DHS is on its way up. They'll be prepared for college soon, as the expectations are high, and the goals even higher. Students are staying in class, and teachers are teaching - the way it ought to be.

Anonymous said...

should be the DECATUR MESSENGER...but if you dont then all the other WT in wise county would just complain
