Wow. That's a lot of dead people. It would take 3 days for the U.S. to have as many murders (about 43 per day), and a whole day for the U.S. to have as many drunk driver killings (about 116 per day). It would take 10 days for Texas to have as many deaths by drunk driving (about 10 per day). Why isn't there an outrage over average Americans being slaughtered at home at a rate far beyond what Iraqis are doing to each other in their civil war? Seems like when the enemy is simply beer, wine, whiskey and idiots who get drunk we could figure that out somehow. Instead, folks in Wise County are outraged that they can't drive 75 or 80 through a little town along 114.
Not outraged at the speed my friend, just the invasion of privacy via camera. 9-11 terrorists were on camera at two major airports before taking their flights, and were on camera when they came to the U.S. through their respective ports of entry and even with the sophisticated technology and face recognition , it didnt stop them from doing their diabolical deeds. The soldiers are there by choice, they volunteered, they knew this when they joined and the dangers associated. Texas has many drunk drivers simply because there is no mass transit. Many major cities have trains and bus systems that branch out into the suburbs making travel safer and more convenient. Drunks on the L in Chicago after a night of drinking in Wrigleyville have a lot less chance of killing someone going home than the cowboy driving his dually home from Northside. Cameras cant do a beat cops job and they will soon find out so when they are replaced by these machines. Just ask any UAW worker at the Arlington GM plant. Civil unrest is what happens when people quit giving a damn about their neighbor. The enemy is not beer, wine, or liqour, the enemy is us. The "me me me" mentality has killed us.
count is up to 135 now with several hundred injured
When you are doing something illegal in a public place you give up your right to privacy. And what's the difference between a camera and if a cop is sitting alongside the road with a speed detector as you go by? Seems that is more of an intrusion to "privacy" since he or she is watching you longer than an instant, plus you get watched even if you aren't speeding. Cameras only care if you're speeding. There is no intrusion on your privacy if you're not. As for those arguing privacy, why not "Nazi Wal-Mart, Nazi McDonald's, Nazi ATM machines" and Nazi everyplace else that takes your picture while you are just going about daily activities? At least the speed cams ignore you if you're not speeding.
3:29, you may be on to something. The drunk driver as a "victim" of a lack of transportation alternatives. "Your honor, I had to go to a bar to get drunk the other night, but since there was no DART train nearby, my only option was to drive myself home. Those two 16 year old kids I just killed...they were just out riding around and frankly did not have as good a reason as me to be out driving." In today's society, would we be surprised? We are a nation of victims, seemingly without the ability to defend ourselves from things like cheeseburgers that jump over counters and force themselves into our throats, video games that are scheming with sofas and deploying tractor beams on our butts, and the person with the gun to our heads making us buy gas guzzling vehicles. Maybe that guy in Wise County currently facing child porn charges should claim he is a victim because there's not any regular porn to watch on TV or buy in Wise County. Therefore he had no choice but to explore the Internet, and he never would have found the illegal stuff in the first place had there been a couple of XXX theatres in Runaway Bay.
The real surge is the spiraling rise in U.S. troop deaths.
If you drunks would stop hitting the DART train I could get to the Stars game on time!
The difference 4:38 PM is the cop gets a paycheck, municipal benefits, and a pension. The camera puts you out of a job. The cop can change behavior and be an effective force in the community, a camera cannot. That camera could do more good in Iraq than Rhome. It could save troops, instead of making people bypass a town to do business.
The real kicker is that our leaders wont level the place to save our troops lives. People would rather have technology here to get revenue than to spend revenue to get technology there to save a soldier.
Anon 3:29: Those might be volunteer soldiers over there but most of them were fresh out of high school and had absolutely no concept of the "dangers associated" with war when they joined. I know I didn't know shit from shinola when I was 18 and I bet you didn't either...If you had a kid over there I bet you wouldn't be so apathetic about it.The real outrage is that as of last night there had been 10 US soldiers killed in only the first 3 days of the month.
7:11, Yeah, those idiot just out of high school kids had no idea there was a war going on when they enlisted. They had never seen TV news, never heard of 9/11, never seen the real world. I had never heard of Vietnam either when I was in high school. You make as much sense as John F'ing Kerry. Hey Sheehan, the only surge is when your septic tank backs up because you flush cheap tampons.
Have we cut and run from New Orleans or Philadelphia yet?
Joe Scarborough is one pissed off conservative:"If you‘re a true conservative, there is no way you can support staying the course in the sight of such failure."Let's spend the $10 Billion fighting Islamic radicalism in a more effective way and save some American lives in the process.
11:12 there's a difference in seeing it on tv and actually being in the thick of it, unless we're all clairvoyant, omnipotent, fucking know-it-alls like you.
Sheehan, You sound like a Miss Universe contestant wanting world peace. And what would be that effective way?
11:38, You and John F'ing Kerry just don't get it. I was pointing out that you think these brave men and women that sign up are stupid and don't even know a war is going on. Do you really think they are that stupid? Thank them and support them. Not just in words but financial support and quit demeaning their effort.
I don't have a clue anymore than you do, but I'm not sure the administration does either. For all I know, this war is necessary. The point I'm trying to make, and am evidently not succeeding at, is these soldiers have names and faces and lives, it's personal. People forget. When it's out of sight, it's too often out of mind. And just so ya know, it's as big an insult to call me Sheehan as you think it is, although I am probably not who you think I am. Score one for you.
I didn't call you Sheehan and your debate makes no sense so I am not going to respond to you.
According to the Department of Defense the AVERAGE age of troops killed in Iraq is 30. Thus the "poor dumb kid" excuse for troops ELECTING to join the military and having been sent to Iraq is IRRELEVANT.Ladies and Gentlemen, 100% of the United States Military personnel who are in Iraq are there because THEY VOLUNTEERED for the military AND have REupped because they BELIEVE in the appropriateness of their ASSIGNMENT. However, MOST troops do NOT agree with how they are being ALLOWED to execute their MISSION. The reason there is SUCCESS in Afghanistan is because that WAR is being conducted like it is a WAR.WAR IS UGLY! INNOCENT people are killed during war! Most wars should have NEVER been STARTED. A war predicated on TERROR does not END just because ONE side STOPS participating.JIHAD has been declared THROUGHOUT the ENTIRE World by TERRORIST thus making it WORLD WAR III. Until politicians and people realize THIS is WWIII there is NO possible chance THIS war can be won by ANYONE OTHER than the JIHADIST dedicated to MURDERING every HUMAN whom THEY target for DEATH. Like it or NOT this IS the WORLD in which WE currently live.
my argument made as much sense as yours did, you just don't agree with me.
And MzChief I wasn't calling them poor dumb kids, I was calling them inexperienced, there's a difference.
9:16, You win Sheehan.
Don't worry about her 9:17, we would all like to ship her over there so she would shut and go wiegh in w/ the cookies!!
