The education statute does not care about the age of the "victim". This is a great reminder that the Grand Jury system in Texas has a purpose and it worked here. However, if the "victim" is claiming he was pressured and was saving his viginity for Britney Spears, then I am sure the Grand Jury would have indicted. My guess is that the "victim" does not feel victimized one bit. Thus, the Grand Jury did not indict. At least I hope that is what happened here. She is smokin...and he was 18.
Do you suppose there are any men in the Texas prison system right that were convicted of sex with a "smokin hot" 15 or 16 year old tramp that "wanted it" and had already left her DNA in every backseat in town? Hey, they ought to be in jail. It's on the books, it's illegal and wrong. And so was this lady. But, she's free to go.
In any case, if two consenting adults have sex, it is not illegal. I think a teacher that has sex with a student behaves in a terribly unethical way and should have his/her ceritification stripped.
this is just an outside observation from someone who has posted less than ten times in the last few years. i find that MZCHIEF is just as offensive with her antagonistic ways as people using vulgar language. she uses her bold-italic text and "smart ass" quips to start the type of behavior she protests so much. sad really that she has to draw so much attention to herself to make herself feel important. she bring everything she gets onto herself.

The ability to comment on subjects in this blog was taken away for a while because of persons who would rather do character assassination than comment on the subject of discussion. Folks, be civilized.

The messages she posts make a hell of a lot more sense than the copy and pasted crap you spend your time posting.
I find this law to be somewhat strange. Making actions illegal that would otherwise be perfectly legal (if unethical). The only analogy where the law makes sex illegal between consenting adults is in the matter of incest. It's like the legislature decided to make teacher/student relationships fit into the incest catagory. Makes you wonder if there should just be civil/employment penalties, and not criminal penalties involved. The grand jury may have shown compassion/common sense, but if they believed that sex did occur, they obviously chose to ignore the law!! And a big warning sign starts "lighting up" when everyday citizens choose to officially ignore a law. The message to the legislature is this--you've gone TOO far! (And yes, if the tables were turned--male teacher and female student--there would be a greater likelihood of an indictment--which is not fair.)
9:01 - I agree completely. For those who acknowledge that this was unethical - well, this ethic has been codified and it IS, indeed, illegal. Again, if this was a male teacher, he'd be serving 10 to 20. The law is the law. It needs to be applied evenly or changed to suit your current customs.

In most cases, women get special treatment. A guy in this case would certainly spend time in jail.
