Although I Tend To Be A Private Blogger . . .

. . . I feel compelled to reveal that I think I set an all time personal electric bill last month. I'd feel better if someone would admit to one-upping me.

I would love to have a bill that low. Last month we hit $950 the highest we have ever had. We have a large house with three AC units, have a well so we have to pump our own water and have a pool that the filter runs 10 hours a day.

Everyone I have talked had higher than ever before electric bills thia month. Some doubled.

Geeez... and I was complaining that ours went up $100 dollars from the month before. I will be curious to see the next one.

There are stories all over the news telling people to check their meters. Several people have had enormous bills because their meters were either read wrong or just weren't read at all.

Mine was $490.00, but I am on average billing, so I just have to pay $300.00...if I was still a single Mom, I would be so stressing this summer, thank God for my husband and a second income!

I am a single mother and it's really bad when you electric bill is almost as much as your paycheck! It's sad when everything but our paychecks go up!

Just stop using so much. It's not complicated. If you choose to have a big house and lots of electricity sucking addendums, it's your own doing. It does not cost that much in electricity to maintain an average house comfortably.

What will really make you mad, if you were with the Co-op your bill would have been about $360 - they charge $.105 per KW I think.

SOMETHING should be done about this gouging! People cannot live!

I'm with Wise Coop and my KWH usage was 6184 and my rate is 514, my bill for 7-15-06 thru 8-14-06 was $689.41, which means my rate equated to .11148. Guess they went up a little this month maybe, 9:26AM?

OUCH!
$630.36 for 4212 kwh used during 07.15.06 - 08.14.06 average daily high 99

$435.17 for 3498 kwh used during 07.16.05 - 08.15.05 average daily high 92

I keep the thermostat at 72 during the summer and 60 during the winter. You could hang meat in my house ALL year long.

I am terrified to see the NEXT months bill but not enough to crank up the thermostat. It has been HOOOOOTTTTT!

9:07 - you do make a good point. Heck, we are so poor, we water each other down in the front yard. Where there's a will, there's a way, ya know!

Brrr!

If I could afford a house big enough to have 3 a/c units and a pool, I could probably afford the $950 electric bill. Of course, that would probably go along with the huge gas bill from driving my Ford Excursion.
My electric bill was $230 last month, and I thought that was high. I feel better now.

wow i thought my bill was high.

Anonymous said...

Never said I couldn't afford my electric bill, just that I had a high one. Now you won't ever catch me driving a Ford though.

I won't drive a Ford either. That was just the most environmentally incorrect vehicle I could think of.

What people should be looking at is the kilowatt usage compared to last years at this time. It's not that you are using more, it's that your rates have gone up. How much should we conserve to compensate the rate hike? At least 40% in most cases. That means you can choose between a well pump, hot water heater, washing clothes, doing dishes or air conditioning. Which will you choose?

My rates are up, too! However, the electric bill for my 3000 sq ft 3 br, 3 1/2 bath house with 3 zoned ACs for Aug is $285. Last Aug it was $185. My water is heated with propane but everything else is electric. The house is pretty well insulated but we also use some common sense in electric use. I don't like the 55% increase from last year (while kwh's are up 22%) but I'd be really concerned with bills of $400 to $500 a month.

How much has your propane increased. You might compensate in the summer, but wait till winter. You might be pinched there too.

I live in a small two bedroom apartment, 778 sq. feet. My bill last month was $310., and it's not even very cool in my home.

More thought needs to go into building energy efficent buildings. This would include the new high school. Why would they put all that glass on the side facing the west? I hate to see that electric bill!

You're right about the propane bill. That stuff that used to give away is now at about $2.40 a gallon!! I do think this is ridiculous but I'm committed to propane for hot water AND heating. My winter bills are going higher. We are also judicious with heating and do what we can to keep up the insulation levels. I wonder if electric is now cheaper than propane for heating?

Try to run a small business on co-op power , they charge you 250.00 a month before your bill just because its commercial !

just wait till january when the whole system will be completely deregulated. Then they can charge what ever they want to.
