They are a waste, though. Especially around these parts, where there seem to be a lot of people that just chunk butts, cups, papers, and fly aways out of the backs of trucks that just pile up on fencelines, brush, etc. Plus it's usually blowing around anyway.
I had a diffrent reaction when the thing passed by my house the other day - I was so excited to get the crappy candy off of the street and away from my house. We are on the parade route and we were bombarded by candy being thrown. We gathered what we could and the rest was left for cars to drive over (at some point we had to get the kids out of the middle of the street :) I was glad the mess was being picked up. I also assumed it was my tax dollars at work - however - living in town we tend to get EVERYONES trash blown our way - it is IMHO a worthy expense.
I certainly can relate with you about getting everyone's trash blown your way...we live out in the country and I REALLY think it's inconsiderate of people to chunk their trash out the window! I have spent many of HOURS picking up trash, beer bottles, cans, etc... along our fenceline and the Hwy! What happened to keep America Beautiful or Don't Mess with Texas?
I was picking up trash in my yard one day (from trash blowing through) and a car went by - threw a cup out the window near me, as if I didn't have enough to pick up already! Totally RUDE!
At least the sweepers pick up some of the masses of roadside trash in Texas. What I think is a real waste of time and energy are "leaf blowers". Geeez, all they do is shift around the mess till it blows back or in some other yard.

barry do you ever work?
I just saw a blog about mechanical streetsweepers, what a waste of time.
my you people are testy
I think they are testy because the WCM did not cover a game in Bridgeport, and instead, chose to take picture of our hometown troops coming home.
Where those street sweepers really popular at any time?
BARRY - DO YOU SPELL CHECK?
I don't understand why people post to gripe or pick on the blogger. Remember if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.
Amen to the last anon. Nobody's perfect! Happy Holidays everyone!
