10-2

You may have been following the horrendous capital murder trial of Joseph Smith (not the Mormon) in Florida. Tonight the jury voted 10-2 to impose the death penalty. 10-2? In Texas, it requires a unanimous vote.

I watched the trial on court TV. This man is a monster and has no place in our society. He kidnapped, raped, and murdered a child. Claims that he did not know what he was doing because he was on DRUGS. *Hey Barry, one of your potential clients. Maybe you can get his conviction reversed because he was on drugs.* Just goes to show you that some jurors lie when asked during pre-trial questioning if they could vote for the death penalty. Anyone with a brain would have.

liberals hate this

It appears this guy was guilty. Life in prison gets him out of society. Why, exactly, is killing him going to help any of us?

wow if a person does something like that then they should die..... they wont have time to change their ways because all that is, is them trying to look good to the media

The death penalty guaranties us that this animal will have no chance of re-entering our society. He has been given a second, third, and fourth chances to prove to the world that he was a changed man and was unable to. Do you want to take the chance that he will be kept in prison the rest of his life. Let one of your kids meet him at the prison gate when he gets out.

I, for one, am totally sick and tired of feeding these animals and worrying about their "civil rights". What about the children's civil rights these creeps violate not to mention what they actually do under the guise of drugs or insanity?
BG Are you sending anything xtra to put in the hat for their next meal?

We shoot rabid animals...no one like this guy should be entitled to civil rights. I say it's a forfeit at the onset of murdering young girls, wouldn't you agree??

Don't all of you advocating capital punishment believe that God will make these creeps pay for their sins? Do you think God will be too busy to properly deal with them? We needn't "coddle" these people, just incarcerate with limited facilities for life. Then let God do his job.

Honestly, what makes us all think that God will "punish" someone like this. God seems perfectly content to allow a little girl to be raped and killed without stepping in, yet we think God will step in to punish someone for something God allowed to happen in the first place. Our thinking about God and his actions or inactions is pretty selective, isn't it?

His death needs to be expedited.

Read the Book of Numbers in the Bible if you're concerned about the death penalty. A man who murders another man pays with his life. And God doesn't "allow" these things to happen Anon 5:09. He provides all with free will, and it is the man or woman who commits the sin that is responsible. Ultimately, the blame need not be put on God, or again, advocates of the death penalty...the blame can only be placed on ONE person, and that is the monster who commits these heinous acts...they should pay here and in the hereafter.

Amen, lovelit! Consequences...people should invest more thought in the notion.

hey, 10:03...God does so allow it, if you believe His power is omipotent. He can stop anything He wants, ergo.....He ALLOWED it to happen. end of story

Anno @ 9:31
You do not know God! God allows what we allow. End of story!!!

People die everyday and go to hell and that's not God's will that anyone should die without Jesus, But we make choices everyday! It's our choice.

anon 6:58...just like a fundamentalist...you think you have the answers to everything and a hotline to God. I DO know what my church (which I have attended for 50 years regularly) and what I personally believe in my heart, and just because my belief differs from yours, you say I don't know God. I feel sorry for you and closed minded people like you. The arrogance of the fundamental church makes me sick, and I bet it makes God a bit ill, as well, but then, I admit my ideas are mine...you people claim you know the mind of God...ARROGANCE!!!

goota go with 7:59 on this one. don't really think anyone has the right to judge whether someone else knows God. sounds like religiosity and arrogance to me too.

9:31...if God stopped all of the bad things from happening, to put it quite simply...there would have been no reason for Him to send Jesus to earth to die for us...and therefore Christ died in vain. Man committed the first sin a long time ago and has been doing so ever since. We have free will and choices to make...God tries to infulence our choices (Holy Spirit)...no doubt, but ultimately it is up to us whether or not we listen. Obviously, Joseph Smith does not know God or did not listen to Him, and that was HIS choice to make. And 7:59...I don't claim to have a "hotline" to God, nor does anyone else. But prayer and the Bible serve as great conduits to Him.
