I saw Jane McGarry in the DFW airport a few years back, and she was the most rude person I had ever seen, she was insulting & condescending to everyone she spoke to. I haven't watched her since.
Hey, reporters have bad days too... jeez..
She wasn't just rude to 1 person, she was rude to 2 employees & refused to give a little girl an autograph. I think that's mean spirited, not just someone having a bad day. There is no excuse for rudeness, especially if you are a "celebrity". My opinion, my choice, ain't America great!
I was in the grill at Colonial Country Club 5 or 6 years ago eating. She was seated next to my table with her husband. There were several families with children seated around her. Not only was she rude to everyone who waited on her, she cursed and used the F-word repeatedly, all loud enough for everyone to hear. It was like she was out of control, and it was awful. I can't stand her and wouldn't watch her on TV no matter what. Sounds like from the rest of these posts, she is still a rude, mean egomaniac.
Personally, it's Mike Snider that annoys me the most, but Jane is sure doing her share too these days. Seems like ever since NBC bought KXAS, the news has moved more and more to sensationalizing of events that, in some cases, are non events in my mind, and then they keep stringing you along for most of the news before they finally get around to the news they were promoting which then turns out to be nothing. I have been a long time Channel 5 news watcher going back to the 50's and the always rock solid forecasts of Harold Taft, and still consider David Finfrock, his protege, to be the class of weathermen in the local area, but even he has been relegated to hyping weather events, and at times, looks a little uncomfortable having to do it. And they really irritate me when they break away from a show I'm watching to report some supposed ongoing crisis and don't return to the show you were watching until it's already over when they could have made a brief initial report and came back on with a more detailed update later. In particular, I remember the night that Chief Justice Reinquist died, which most people already knew was close at hand, and they interupted the show I was watching and proceeded to not only report his death, but then give a 20 to 30 minute report on his life and times, something they could have done after the 10 PM news. I finally swore off the Channel 5 news at about a month ago, and am still trying to decide which of the other stations do the best job of trying to deliver you the news without all the flair. Does make it harder on me since I have to change the channel at 10:30 to watch Leno.
Well it is Gloria Campos that makes me change the chanel. Normally watch ch 11 until they get to the weather, then watch Troy or David.
The news is annoying, with or without McGarry. I'd rather scan my Yahoo home page any day for the latest happenings in our world, and of course check out wisecounty.com for local news than watch sensationalized crap.
news media are all liberal liars, anyway.
Is it me or does Channel five report the news in fast forward? It's like their trying to get 200 stories on the air in 25 minutes. It makes me tired to watch. They might as well hire that fast talker guy (the bald guy with the mustache) to come and do the news for them. They annoy the heck out of me!! I've always watched Channel 8 and think that Troy Dungan is the best meteorologist (and probably the classiest) on the air. I am, however, tiring of their new morning show.
..Imus in the Morning is the most interesting anchor, or whatever he is.... Nothin' like an old ugly hippie, ex cocaine using cowboy!....whoopie ti yi yo!
This whole newscast drives me nuts. Mike Snider is seedy, Jane is "Martha"esque and I LOATHE the way Gloria says her surname these days. They are complete ratings whores; aside from the Channel 5 bash, all of the news "reporters" are full of sh*t these days. It's all drama, slant and more slant for the drama. 570am gives me my News.
McGarry is bad but Snider is in way over his head. What a jerk! Anyone watching channel 5 for news is really an optimist. I prefer PBS or channel 11 for local stuff.
I agree with most of the posts, but Channel 5 does have the highest rated newscast in the metroplex. I think it's probably because of Finfrock. To me, they have the best weathercast and I think it's all because of Harold Taft--he WAS the best! As far as a national anchor, I REALLY like Anderson Cooper on CNN.
