Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • Being one strike from being a World Series Champion seems like a long time ago.
  • What an epic collapse. But if the Rangers get back to the World Series (cough), all would be forgotten.
  • I wonder if this has anything to do with me watching Moneyball last weekend?
  • I've always proclaimed Josh Hamilton to be dumber than a box of rocks. I just didn't know he was going to prove it to the world.
  • Mitt Romney showed the power of low expectations last night. A person can, and he did, take advantage of it.
  • President Obama seemed to be holding back. I bet he's saving a haymaker for debate two or three. You know, like Muhammad Ali used to do.
  • But the Republicans have a right to have a little hope this morning.
  • Odd motorcycle death: A guy fleeing from police near Ridgmar Mall causes it
  • Odd motorcycle death #2: Two cyclists, who knew each other, died in Denton County when they collided head on.
  • I'm being blocked, albeit inconsistently, by the Star-Telegram's pay wall.
  • I watched the first half of ESPN's 30 for 30 new documentary, Broke, about athletes blowing through millions of dollars. I'm trying to keep an open mind, but I believe if I had been handed three million when I was 21 years old that I'd still have most of it.
  • The Arlington pastor's alleged murder's girlfriend took the stand yesterday and admitted she was a man. (Yep, you read that correctly.)
  • As much as I think I'm in the know, the courthouse kept me in the dark about the death threat that is in today's news about the courthouse fire arrest.
  • I had a dark email scam waiting for me this morning which was, in essence, a hit man wanting to be paid off or he'd kill me.  An example of the email is here
  • Bag of Nothing found a clip of the crowd at the WVU/Baylor game staying after the game to sing John Denver's Country Roads.  I don't think I've ever been so surprised to like something so much.

Excuse me.....Republicans should have a LITTLE hope?!?!

What happened last night was proof positive that EVERYTHING I've said the past five years about Obama being an incompetent empty suit who isn't qualified for the presidency is truth.

The press coddles this man like he's special, protects him, refuses to hold him accountable for ANYTHING.....and another man (Romney) comes along and, for the first time, actually challenges Obama to his face.....and Obama stutters, stumbles, doesn't know what to do, etc.

The way the media portrays Obama as a great competent leader has been CRAP from the word go!

To quote Clint Eastwood: "Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetuated on the American people."
And last night PROVED IT!!!!

The Jackal

Of course Obama was a little put out at the debate. After nearly four years of media and underling fawning, he's now been forcefully confronted with his record within the last couple of weeks, first by Univision and now by Romney. Neither one let him off the hook. His self-image as "the One we've been waiting for" probably took a big hit last night.

Best line of the night -- Obama on jobs: "You may want to move on to another topic."

The one thing I took away from the Broke documentary was that each of these players became a little financial social welfare system to everyone surrounding them. Really reminds me of how certain segments of society latch on to the government in the same way until it is BROKE.

President Obama seemed to be holding back. I bet he's saving a haymaker for debate two or three.

Either you are in extreme denial, or you are one of those who laughs nervously when you know you are wrong, as opposed to admitting defeat.

Mitt clearly schooled Obama. Many liberal dem's said so too, and that is honesty.

8:52 - hate to burst your political bubble, but a person said to me about the debates last night that they were more effective than a sleeping pill.

Debates are irrevelant, contrived and scripted like a bad movie. Eye contact here, arm swing there, raise voice here, lower it there, etc. etc....

..and the media puts a spin on the debacle and.....

...we buy it.

Both candidates are lackluster.

Misplaying a flyball proves he's dumb? How?? It was a dumb move, but not proof. The dumb thing is that it may have knocked millions of dollars off the contract he signs in the off-season, which is looking more likely to not be with the Rangers

Wordy - what will you post after Obama WINS the election?

You are SO boring.

Anonymous said...

But the Republicans have a right to have a little hope this morning.

In other words, the muslim Obama will be writing a book with Carter in January on how to bring peace to the middle east. Face it Barry, the muslim had four years failure. The great black hope turned out to be a chunk of coal.

Anonymous said...

9:34, No one has to worry about that.

Anonymous said...

9:23, but Boyd has turf and all Rhome has is no-tolerance drug signs, so I would have to rate Rhome a little higher on the suck-o-meter!

wordkyle said...

934 - I've said that Obama has to be considered the favorite to win the election. See my previous boring posts for my reasons -- none of which is that he will do a better job; better than Romney or better than his current term.

Anonymous said...

Would think conservatives would be up in arms, their man backed away from everything he has been promising them. Not that it matters to me, I am a working man and not rich enough to be Republican.

Debate observations...

Romney came across better prepared and more aggressive than the Pres. Of course, the President has a busy day job.

The Obamma body language was not good.

The Obama facial expressions were not good. It seemed obvious to me that he was getting p'd off several times during the debate, and wanted to say something, but held himself back.

Jim Lehrer got run over. I think Obama was wanting Jimbo to take more control and to get Romney to shut up.

The shot clock meant close to nothing.

Obama has no idea how long 5 seconds is.

Romney is a lot smarter than W. and Gov. Good Hair.

Romney had nothing to lose and everything to gain, and he took advantage of that.

Best line of the night from a journalist: If you watched this debate with the sound turned off, you would have picked Romney as the clear winner.

Summary:

Romney won the debate, but does that make him President? The bottomline will be, as it always is, the states with big electoral vote counts that are toss ups, did this debate move them in either direction.

The next Presidential debate will be interesting. Obama knows what expect next time, so he should do better.

The VP debate, waste of time. Crazy Uncle Joe against Cheesehead, I'd rather watch Honey Boo Boo.

Anonymous said...

Oh....left out the best one....

Obama was criticizing Romney for providing little of no details on his plans. This, from a guy, than ran on a "Hope and Change" platform in 2008. I thought that was pretty ironic.

Remote Controller said...

Debates so far: Romney 1- Obama 0. Did either of them wow.... No.

Did Obama look a little dumb.... Yes.
Did Romney, who has been in business for the last few decades, seem to know what he was talking about when it came to numbers.... Yes

Were there specifics from either paty.... NO

Will it swing voters to one side... Maybe.

Anonymous said...

If Obama was Trayvon's father, the debate would have looked like last night's debate.

9:17 AM, you must be either a liberal or a pinko journalist....either way, you sound like someone trying to cover for your man Obama.

All I've heard for the past six months is how crucial the debates are and how it would have far more sway over the election than the conventions or anything else......and NOW that your candidate was humiliated last night, you're telling me debates don't matter?!?!

And how many MILLIONS of people watched this thing last night?!?!?!

If the debates don't matter, then what does matter to you?!?! The color scheme of his clothes? Whether the candidate has a great rapport with David Letterman?!?!

That wasn't even a nice try to spin the situation, though!!!!

Try again!!!! I dare you!!!

Hey Jackal, I got something that matters alot, at least to me: he's a Mormon. Don't mean to offend, mainstream Christians are hard to avoid in politics, in general, but I draw the line when it comes to voting for one that worships that malarkey for the job of being the most important leader in the world.
Put that in your logic machine.

And let’s make such statements completely at random and out of context.

News flash for 11:15, we're electing a president, NOT A PASTOR. Hell, if anyone knows anything about Obama, it's fairly evident that he's more than likely an atheist or agnostic. But you don't know anything outside of what the various pundits tell you. Do some leg work, read some literature, put two and two together. Dammit it annoys me to no end when people say, "We'll Romney is a Mormon!" or "Obama is a Muslim!" Dear lord just stop right now for the love of all things you hold dear.
As for you counselor, you deserve a pat on the back and a beer. The more I read this blog, the more I feel sorry for you that you actually read through most of these damn things before you click accept. I'd advise ending the blog soon. You have got to have lost some brain cells by now.

So Jackal, I'm a bigot, and you know this to be fact? I'm actually a very religion-tolerant person, with a good moral foundation and a giving nature. I simply don't subscribe to the supernatural events behind most religious beliefs and therefore I find Romney's belief system, in comparison to Obama's, relatively more concerning, when judging character strengths ans weaknesses. I guess that's too logical and common sensical for you to accept without being insulting. 11:15

Anonymous said...

1:02, To be fair, the events behind both Mormonism and Christianity are equally absurd, one was just created many years ago and thus considered mainstream. The fact that you cannot see so makes you religion-retarted, not tolerant. Older does not = more better. Anywho, America has more churches than it does jobs right now. If I need a good prayer I'll seek out a religous leader, if I need to create jobs I'll seek out a business man. If I need to get a communtiy organized, well you get the picture.

1:02...So you find Islam more believable than Mormonism? Few things in religion are further "out there" than Mohammed's magic carpet ride. If you want to compare religions, take the time to actually study them instead of listening to what some talking head has to say.

Not the Jackal, please don't put words in my mouth. To set the record straight, I agree with the donkey here, that Obama is actually a paper Christian for PC's sake. That is still preferable IMO to being a Mormon, as I understand there are things one must do to align with the masses and simply be an electable candidate. Sad but true. But, to claim to be a devout Morman leaves no uncertainty on the table, and it tells me you are not only willing to pretend you would drink the kool-aid, you brought your favorite brand to the party. 11:15

2:24(11:15) You are picking a single personal detail about Romney to rule him out? You would rather elect a president that you believe lied to the masses about his religous affiliation to get elected. You need to remove religion from this and make decision based on Obama's record, and who you think would be the better leader.

If you can see through Obama so well to realize he is a faux Christian, then you certainly should be able to see through his lies on policy and the fact that he has an extreme leftist agenda. Obama does not care about jobs, the economy or the middle class, he is solely loyal the leftist elites. PC bullshiate is what got us into this mess, so maybe you need to reconsider what crazytown kool-aid your drinking!

Speaking of kool-aid....I think I will mix mine in a Kitchen-Aid blender, and use it to wash down my Chic-Fil-A sammitch while watching a Clint Eastwood movie marathon.....hell, I might even try to recruit a sister wife or three!!!

There is never a single reason to make judgement on a candidate. Being a Mormon is only one of many things I cannot relate to with Romney. I know so many faux Christians I've come to accept it as normal behavior, esp with politicians. Obama endures a lot of unreasonable hatred but I have to disagree with you in that he will be remembered as a great POTUS, not a liar like W and Clinton proved to be. 11:15

wordkyle said...

It's good to see that the reasoning behind 4:43/11:15's opposition to Romney's Mormonism is for a good reason -- "Obama will be remembered as a great POTUS."

I'm okay with that, as long as he's remembered as a great one-term POTUS.

Back in 1960, the same things regarding religion of a candidate were being said about the Roman Catholic John F. Kennedy. Many people refused to vote for him because of his religion. Yet, according to democrats, and a lot of republicans, he was one of the greatest President's ever.

And let's not forget it has been proven that he spread the seeds of the Presidency around, quite liberally while in office. (Bad back my butt).

Obama can't debate because he can't speak, other than a stump speech, without a teleprompter. The next debate will be a town hall format, so he can go into a stump speech; however, he now has a record on the economy, foreign affairs and energy that Romeny can hold him accountable for.

Romney needs to stay on "Trickle down government" until more voters understand how jobs are created by small businesses. romeny scored the most points with the focus group on Fox News when he said he would work together with Congress to get things done.

Read Bob Woodward's book "The Price of Politics". Obama has total disrespect for Congress unlike any other past president. He plans on "ruling" by executive order and ignoring the law.

Obama's weight loss was shocking to me. His shoulders are thin, his face is so thin making his big ears stick out. He looked tired and seemed not to be able to stay on subject. His hair is gray and his skin tone dull.

In contrast, Michelle looked toned and in good shape.

I think the weight loss could be caused by 1) eating disorder 2)or something else that causes weight loss that used to be a bad habit for him

Or Obama has a health problem that he is covering up until after the election.

Or Michelle has him eating carrot sticks and organic veggies from the White House garden???

Obama is a con artist with extreme low self esteem and extremely thin skinned. He needs to reverse the weight loss before he is no longer able to perform his duties.

By the next debate, he needs to have a better personal appearance to keep his rock star image of being cool!!!
