Say Good Bye To Todd Akin

He's getting killed for using the term "legitimate rape."  I'm more perplexed about his hot medical opinion.

Republicans are trying to distance themselves from him, but he's closer to the republican norm than any will admit.

His medical opinion is based on the idea that "God" will abort the fetus if it is a legitimate rape.

Did you even read what he said? He is basing his statement on what doctors told him which is exactly what the internet will tell you about legitimate rape.

I don't understand the argument about this at all.

LEGITIMATE

1.legal: complying with the law, or having official status defined by law
2.conforming to acknowledged standards: complying with recognized rules, standards, or traditions
3.well-founded: well reasoned and sincere

Like the Chick Fil-A thing, people are taking him the wrong way. I agree with 9:47AM.

I believe that is what is referred to as a Kinsley gaffe.

Does he have a brother named Dick Akin?

Anonymous said...

yeah, but he still might win..

So, ya'll are sayin i can legally rape someone!

Wow... if 9:47 ain't from Alabama, I'd be surprised. Or maybe that comment was made by Wordkyle, sure does smell like him..

I would hate to run for office in this high tech age in which we live. Before the internet, you could make a bad statement and get away with it. Now days the whole world knows about in a heartbeat, thanks to the internet. I liked the world better, pre-internet.

Ma'am, before I check you out can you tell me if this rape was legitimate or are you just looking for attention?

Anonymous said...

10:02 Not sure but, if you will ask that man standing in front of you to bend over your's will.

Anonymous said...

10:07 Instead of showing us your ignorant self come back with a legitimate response to the argument.

Anonymous said...

Is this guy Clayton Williams's illegitimate offspring?

Anonymous said...

10:16

The idiocy of that statement is so grand I would like to think it wouldn't need the internet to bolster it one iota!

Anonymous said...

10:07 Your are just too dumb for words.

Geeezzz...and this is what votes for the left.

WOW

10:16 I liked the world better when people could handle the truth.

Wonder how he (and Clayton Williams) would feel being illegitimately rape in prision?? You know just a little bit raped.

Anonymous said...

Republicans agree with him. He's still ahead in the polls, and hasn't suffered a drop in the numbers because of what he said. Hell, even Huckabee is asking "what's the big deal, some good people have come from 'forcible rape.'

All rape is rape. There is no such thing as a separate category of forcible rape.

But OMG! ABAMA IS A MOOSLEM SOCIALIST!

Americans (especially women) have more to fear from the Republican Party than they ever will from any terrorist or foreign power.

10:3 then by your standards medical professionals who, through medical training substantiating the statement are idiots.

If not that, surely, you are not arguing with the idea on whether a rape is legitimate or not. 10:3 then by your standards medical professionals who, through medical training substantiating the statement are idiots.
If not that, surely, you are not arguing with the idea on whether a rape is legitimate or not. Let's not forget the Duke Lacrosse Team rape scandal. Psstt….It was an illegitimate rape.

I think we may have hit upon a new oxymoron.

Where is Joe Biden when you need him?

What a moron.

Sorry to throw in some common sense, but if the woman's body took care to make sure an egg couldn't be properly fertilized by legitimate rape, there would be no embryo to abort.

BTW, the doctor that supports this silliness is a gp with obstetric training and a FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE COMMITTEE.

The experts in the field in describing this position say that "it's just nuts"

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/21/us/politics/rape-assertions-are-dismissed-by-health-experts.html

As for the contention that a rape victim’s fallopian tubes tighten, Dr. Grimes, formerly of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said, “That’s nonsense. Everything is working. The tube is very small anyway and sperm are very tiny — they’re excellent swimmers.”

Not so fast, Counselor... this is a different time than when Clayton Williams put his foot in his mouth back in 90 when he said to lay there and take it or something along that line. I think with his apology and a couple days that he will come out unscathed.

Yeah, we'd all kick Michael Phelps's butt...like...a million times in one race.

we have a whole bunch of these people running (ruining) our country. and i dont mean any particular party

Oh yeah, I forgot that 100% of all LEGITIMATE rape cases result in pregnancy even though the female being raped is severely stressed during the incident.

My bad.

DF Todd Akin said...

Let me take this opportunity to apologize. The fact is, rape can lead to pregnancy. The truth is, rape has many victims. The mistake I made was in the words I said, not in the heart I hold.

I would also like to take this time to inform my constituents that, yes, 1+1=2. After speaking with doctors, I was able to confirm this fact.

Today, many of us will feel bewilderment at these new discoveries. It's like waking up in 1493 and realizing the world is allegedly not flat.

I am happy to confirm, however, that it is still true that oral sex is fellatio abortion, and most women, when not pregnant, are a disappointment in God's eyes.

Any news on the Decatur ISD Turf War?

Anonymous said...

So.... 10:27 condones legitimate rape...

Wow indeed.

Anonymous said...

Man, when will the right stop the war on women? After this, I'm surprised any of your wives or girlfriends, if you have them even, stay with you. Maybe they're afraid of being beaten, I mean "forcibly made to stay in the marriage."

That Clayton Williams gaffe from 1990 gave us 4 years of Anne Richards.

So, he came down (clumsily) on the side of life? And the problem with that is?

Who you can thank for getting Baylor into the Big 12 and the last truly balanced budget our state has seen.

2:-- I'm surprised your wife or mother hasn't had multiple abortions just to make you happy.

We wouldn't want either one of them to be a casualty of the war on women.

IDIOTS TO THE LEFT PLEASE said...

Every woman should become a s----, have multiple abortions, have a truck load of kids with different baby daddy's and, live on Medicaid and Welfare just to make the left happy.

Lord knows if you don't choose or want to do any of those things, you are at WAR WITH WOMEN.

2:17 the problem is that he trivialized rape and rape victims. He's telling rape victims that some rapes are not legitimate rape. He's calling into question whether rape victims were somehow traumatized enough for it to count as rape. He's telling those who became pregnant through rape that maybe they weren't angry/upset enough during it b/c if they had been, their body would have stopped the pregnancy.

Most of all, he's trying to tap-dance around the fact that he wants to change the law to force rape victims to have the children of their rapists b/c of his understanding of the Bible.

You really can't see any problem with that? I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Anonymous said...

3:22 No I do not but, I didn't twist it into something it wasn't. I took the actual statement presented before me in it's original form and found it to be correct like it or not.

Romney is now begging Akin to drop his senate run, and so is Hannity.

If Romney can't get a guy from his own party to resign, how is he qualified to face down Iran?

What about this subject .............if a husband RAPES his wife?

......comments, anyone?

....legal comments, Barry?

Rage...by calling a beer summit of course, that solves everything. Oh wait, maybe a root beer summit!

The voters will decide on Akin and Romney knows that. Obama can't even control his own employee in Biden, if that is what criteria we are using now in regards to foreign policy qualifications!

DF Daniel Webster said...

I think we all need a definition for "legitimate rape" so that we can discuss this topic intelligently. So...

Legitimate Rape: Rape between one man and one woman who are not married or even acquainted; the only rape sanctioned by the Republican Party.

e.g. "Was it legitimate rape, or was it just like, hilarious prison rape or acceptable acquaintance rape?"

Carry on.
