At least I know Roy Eaton is back in charge after a five year absence, and Phil Major is no longer "President and Publisher." I suppose other changes are coming but I'm not sure what.

Sounds potentially good, but since I don't live in Wise County and get most of my news off the inner web, I could really care less. Still I wish them the best of luck, because some of you Wise Guys have seemed awfully perturbed with the present situation.

Let me know what I can do that I might care about doing, so that I might decide to do it, so I can care about it, dear 7:35PM. I just might consider it.
Yea, all you Decaturites think ol' Roy is the salt of the earth. But some of us remember when he used a hachet (can you say Jimmy Rainey?) on the school boards and city governments to generate "news". Ask (former) Boyd High School Principal Jerry Howard about good ol' Roy. Ask the family of(former) County Judge Bob Holloway about good ol' Roy. Ask the Bridgeport school boards from the 1990's about good ol' Roy. I give anyone on this blog 20-1 odds that before Thanksgiving the muckracking "news" commences with some "breaking" news regarding a Wise County governing body, current commisioner issues not with standing.
8:36 - not sure what you are referring to with former county judge Bob Holloway (wannabe actor).........and by the way, Holloway is dead, so you can't really back up your comment, but Roy Eaton cares deeply for Decatur and this whole county. He is very professional and has class to boot........just get used to it!!!
You might remember that, if you consider dealing with Eaton.
Have been wondering what Mr. Eaton has been doing...happy to hear he has not been vegatating like me...wonder if he can put me to work doing something...I would volunteer to help him out...he is a great man.
The Wise County Messenger wasn't worth a nickel when it was a nickel. It sure as hell isn't worth whatever they're charging for it now. Roy Eaton coming back certainly isn't going to change that.
A person's first impression of Roy Eaton is that of a kind, congenial and FAIR man, and that was my first impression of him when I began working at the Messenger many years ago.
I will only say that my time under his leadership proved he was anything but that. And there are other former Wise County Messenger employees out there who have since moved on to demonstrate success with much BIGGER and BETTER things who would agree wholeheartedly with what I just wrote!
I think its nice to see Eaton back at the helm, although, he may have waited too late to take the paper back. The reputation has been slipping pretty fast under Phil's direction. Printed newspapers are being phased out, the internet is the most popular source of news for 90% of the population. So, even though he reclaimed his position, he is facing major odds. But...who knows, he might be able to pull a rabbit out of his hat.
I had no problems with Phil, but also love Roy and Jeannine. I'm not a native Decaturite, but they have both always been very helpful when I've needed them.
There will always be those out there who are displeased with something in the public (ie- the newspaper), and others who will find fault with something else printed.
It's a tough job, and I'm glad Roy's leading the way.

5:56,
How much less could you care? Since you care about the situation, please feel free to tell us how much you do care.

Roy is a good man and a great publisher.
Go Roy!
Roy hates Rhome and he's from there. I don't blame him.
Roy Eaton is a heartless jerk with no caring for human interest stories.

will there be any blacks working there?
I liked Phil and his group.
8:36 - well now, Goob, sounds like you have issues with Precinct Four. Don't appreciate past or present political situations?
Quit your griping - get a grip and toss YOUR hat into the ring.
If you dare.

We are lucky to have Roy Eaton in our community, He is a class act!
I love Roy, but his main news source is Chris Matthews, ugh!
The Wise County Messenger wasn't worth a nickel when it was a nickel. It sure as hell isn't worth whatever they're charging for it now. Roy Eaton coming back certainly isn't going to change that.
Are they going to hire Chris Butler back?
