Decatur ISD has been losing their best for a couple of years now. I am worried about the growing losses in all areas. Key leadership, teachers, coaches, and others.

Who is left?

We all owe Eva a great debt of gratitude for her constant efforts to improve the safety on Hwy 380, between Denton and Decatur, for everyone! Sam would be so proud of her Mom Eva and her Step Dad Vic for having accomplished this. A beautiful and wonderful legacy to leave to future generations in Sam's memory!

My advice to Decatur is to consider moving.
I can not believe we keep spending on Apple but not our teachers!
If we put in turf more teachers would stay, they love turf!

The Board has really messed up Decatur!
They make Boyd and Alvord Boards look great!

As long as they continue to employee the middle school and high school principals Decatur will continue to lose good teachers and they will run off the new ones too!! It seems to be the only common denominator - they suck as educational leaders!!!

Ahhhhh Decatur ISD.........will someone help me? I know your Board members personally....they are community people. Where do they get their direction? Who tells them what? The people I talk to that are leaving don't really know much about the board....they just can't stand the leadership, or lack of it. All these taxes, nice schools, wonderful city, ok test scores......but NO ONE wants to work there!!!!!! OR STAY THERE!!!!!!

I feel we took a major step in Decatur ISD when we elected to quality board members in the last election.
Progress takes place slowly.

The superintendent tells the board what to do and they nod their heads like little bobble heads.

I think it is incorrect to say no one wants to work or stay at DISD. A few people have left for various reasons (which is true every year) but the vast majority school employees have made a choice to stay. To say "NO ONE wants to work there!!!!!! OR STAY THERE!!!!!!" is an untruth.

Change happens no matter what the circumstance is. It may be an uncomfortable thing for some but it isn't always a bad thing.

The only ones that work at DISD are the right wingnuts at FBC decatur

The nodding doesn't stop with board members. We all suck it up or else.

4:05, you are way out of the loop. If you haven't noticed the economy sucks. Most districts have laid off teachers or didn't rehire to cut costs. Teachers like me with 10+ years experience CAN'T go anywhere. We are stuck because it's cheaper to hire a less experienced teacher. The chiefs know that too so they have no problem treating us like crap because we can't go anywhere.

DISD teachers face a new "curriculum in a box" each year, even before they know the effectiveness of last year's fad.

DISD teachers can be certain they won't have time to teach because of constant interuptions via the office.

Even the best DISD teachers can't teach kids who aren't there.......because they are gone on some school activity.

Not to mention that 40% of their class won't be on grade level and ready to take their class.

The two newly elected boad members will have no impact with the operation of DISD, if anything they will impede the progress of processes already in place. Jerry Howard and Ruby Quanz are perfect examples of failed educators attempting to implement their own agenda, they created more problems than were solved. A chance to elected another group will come around next May.

444: WOW!!!!These new members have been on the job for a couple of months and you know their leadership capabilities? You can even compare them to previous board members? What iron do you have in the fire? Are you the contractor that gets every bid on all the construction projects or are you an Apple sales person trying to get the next bid? I have a relative at the high school and a friend at Rann. Did you know that 20 employees have resigned at DHS and that trend is spreading throughout the district. The superintendent of this district plays the current school board members like a fine tuned instrument. This guy is taking the tax payers to the cleaners. In the meantime, my child is stuck in the middle of this crappy school district. This board consists of uneducated members, some who never attend the meetings. I know these things for a fact because an administrator from one of the schools, who attends all these meetings is appauled and calls it a "one ring circus". This is the same board who gave Mr. Townsend a $10K raise for nothing!!! If the board members dont ask questions, who will? Does the superintendent get a rubber stamp and a pass for every crooked deal? I will judge these new members when they have time to prove their right to be on the board. In the meantime, I cant wait to vote the others off next spring.

919 could not have said it better myself.

9:19 has her facts all wrong. Are you guys involved in the school at all? Have you been to a school board meeting?

Jerry Howard here:

I sorta want to take exception to the "failed educator" comment above. I think I will compare my 33 years (20 as BHS principal) with almost anyone.

However, I will cop to "failed board member" as I was not successful in the following:

Getting the majority to slow/stop the practice of hiring uncertified cronies instead of experienced and certified teachers/admin with proven track records.

Getting the majority to hold administrators accountable for moving weak and ineffective people (based on data not personality) out of the district

Getting the majority to support exemplary as the standard as opposed to settling for state average.

However, my loud and continuous harping about sham AP offerings did lead to some changes in that program.

Two board members are not much more than a voices in the wilderness as it takes a majority to really accomplish real change.

Well said 9:19 especially about the same contractor getting all the bids thanks to the superintendent.
