And the list will continue to grow. It is one thing to embrace free speech, but quite another to abuse it the way Limbaugh does. And the"dittoheads" who follow him are just those who can't think for themselves.

The best thing that could happen to this blowhard is for the GOP to abandon him.

We can wish for that.

Pillheads for Rush!

wordkyle said...

Ferpeetsake. Rush has the #1 rated radio show in America, 20 million listeners a week. Not advertising on his show hurts the fleeing sponsors more than it hurts them. When the kerfuffle dies down, either those sponsors will return, or new ones will step in. You getting all stirred up about this is the same level of silly as someone getting overly excited about Sheriff Joe and his investigation of Obama.

You are not allowed to insult a liberal woman, a gay man, or a minority.

Bill Maher degraded and insulted Michele Bachmann using worse language. Jimmy Fallon's band played a song titled Crazy B*tch when Mrs. Bachmann appeared on Fallon's show.

The left attacks women who work for Fox News all the time.

True dat. AOL is really shooting themselves in the foot. Maybe the old people who still use AOL will leave AOL's crappy service.

Go ahead and sow the wind, liberals, and reap a whirlwind.

And where is Imus now? Oh Yeah, back on the air as if nothing ever happened. Same will happen with Rush, except he won't go off the air.

Gotta hand it you Dems. This is a brilliant strategy (the contraception detour)to move the debate off of the economy and the fact that the country is truly broke and on to fear mongering about "women's health" issues.

I just want to point out that your "rights" end when someone else is expected to pay for them. Your true rights don't cost anyone anything, until someone else tries to take those rights away.

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle -- I strongly disagree with your analysis of the situation. Every business has an advertising budget that they must spend. They search out shows to advertise on because of the number of viewers/listeners to a particular show. Now if, in the mind of the advertisers, the negative fallout is greater than the return on investment advertising dollars then they bail. Which is exactly what these companies have done. In addition, shows will not stay on the air for very long if advertising dollars are not there to support them being on the air. At some point in time if the dollars are not coming in a previously thought then the company that carries the show must make a decision to keep them or drop them.

I had skipped over the list of sponsors until I read 1153's comment. That's right, AOL -- home of The Huffington Post -- has been paying Rush Limbaugh to advertise on his show. Showing that when it comes to their own personal finances, Liberals love capitalism as much as anyone. It's only after they've gotten theirs that they start crying that other people make too much.

Anonymous said...

Oh man. AOL has bailed. If Compu Serv and Flash Net jump ship, he'll be in serious trouble.

wordkyle said...

1205 - I can't disagree with your analysis of why companies advertise and how they spend their dollars. Companies advertise on Limbaugh's program so they can reach many millions of listeners. (Do you honestly believe that Rush has lost any listeners because of this nonsense?) The current situation is temporary, as the Left decides to attack someone else. (The tantrum over Rush's remarks has already gotten more coverage than the Obama administration forcing Catholic Church-related businesses to violate their church's teachings.) The fleeing sponsors will miss out on the chance to reach the millions of listeners, or they'll come back. The next sponsor on the waiting list will grab up available commercial slots. 1200 got it right when he pointed out that the exhibitionist outrage the Left has displayed is to distract from the real issues.

1:15 - the freedom of speech is still open to all. Rush is not in prison. The free market is speaking. WOMEN purchase most of the shit in this world and if Rush wants to freely speak about WOMEN then he can. But WOMEN have the choice to turn him off and no longer sponsor his hate speech. Some WOMEN are CEO's, some WOMEN have a value in our society. If Rush wants to read the speech of this WOMEN to the democratic caucus, he might see she never refers to her sex life. If Rush is so stupid about sex (even though he's been married 4 times) then he would realize we don't pop a pill every time we have sex, like he does his viagra or oxycotin, we have to take it every damn day. He can freely wage is tongue all he wants but the free market, Capitalism will dictate if his product is something we WOMEN want to put up with.........

I'm not really in favor of these guys saying those kinds of things either, but they bill themselves as "COMEDIANS". While it may be clear what they believe, they don't say that people should believe their jokes or that they are a credible source of information. They are trying to make people laugh. Rush is not (at least not intentionally).

Anonymous at 1:15,

How has Rush's right to free speech been been hindered?

Rush can still say whatever he wants at any time.

But his advertisers are exercising their right to free speech as well by not supporting Rush when he says something they disagree with.

What we see unfolding has more to do with capitalism than what you call "liberals with no morals."

Anonymous said...

1:56

The free market is speaking, Rush has over 20 million listeners. You only hurt yourself if you try to boycott his advertisers.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps we should boycott those that bailed due to their lack of personal integrity. They allow very vocal (whiney loudmouthed) minority dictate their advertising?

He was wrong for calling her those names. But then look at all the stupid things King Obamy said early on, and that slight majority still elected him president!

Anonymous said...

Slight Majority??

Bush won in 2000 with 200,000 fewer total votes than Gore but beat him with Florida's electoral votes.

Anonymous said...

I don't see why either the Left or the Right cares so much about this.
1) Freedom of speech relates to the government prohibiting speech, not what sponsors and/or employers do; 2) Rush said something that was pretty awful to say about anyone; 3) He isn't going to suffer because he lost a few sponsors; 4) He loves the controversy--he lost a few sponsors when he was fired as an NFL commentator--I bet he's still rich; 5) the guy is a political shock-jock, that is all; 6) Word and 2:03 are both relatively correct except that there are other avenues to reach Rush's 20MM people, but I doubt those sponsors are gone for long.

The sponsors distancing themselves from Rush are the same as companies touting their "green" practices and/or products. Companies can take steps like this and know that they'll appeal to those consumers (Liberals) who are impressed by such moves, with little risk of offending those on the other side.

What's really breathtaking is the double standard the Left shows. And not only that, but they act as though it doesn't matter, or that the concept doesn't apply to them. ("Of course we call Conservatives names, but they deserve it!") Unapologetically poisonous with their namecalling and attacks, but delicate as a hothouse flower when they get the chance to act offended.

12:00 - The Dems are diverting the conversation to the issue of birth control? Have you not figured out that the mighty GOP is more interested in a woman's vagina than the State of the Union? They are more interested in controlling a fetus than providing jobs for the parents? I read alot of crazy comments on this blog but to accuse the Dems of diverting the debate to birth control is simply ignorant in light of the Republican presidential candidates' inability to have a single debate without talking about someone's sex life.

wordkyle said...

Ups -- Frame your argument with at least a nod toward reality. When did "contraceptives" become part of the national conversation? When George Stefanopolous twice tried, out of the blue, to goad Romney into commenting on it during a Republican debate. Read the Republican position on economics, instead of mindlessly repeating empty catchphrases that you've heard others say. Learn about the actual Conservative position on children without depending on the shallow caricature that's been drawn for you. Don't want to go the trouble of learning about those policies you oppose? That's your right, of course, but your points will come across as thin as your understanding.

Apparently, no one here has actually listened to what Fluke said in front on congress. She is not referring to herself. The 3,000 figure is not for a year but for their entire college carrier. She is speaking about womens health, not sex. Watch it for yourself, then judge.

The Backdoor Intruder

wordkyle said...

745 - Apparently you're not fully aware of Fluke's testimony yourself. She gave it in front of a House Democrat committee, not Congress. The $3,000 figure is just for law school, not her "entire college career." As a representative of the "Georgetown Law Students for Reproductive Justice," she repeatedly used the term "medical care" as a synonym for "contraceptives." She complained that the Georgetown student insurance -- that would be the Catholic University Georgetown -- did not cover contraceptives. Her own quote: "Some conservative Catholic organizations have been asking what did we expect when we enroll in a Catholic school?" The "conservative Catholic organization" would be the Catholic Church itself -- the same one that established and sponsors the university she chooses to attend.

The testimony she gave could not have been more biased and partisan if it had been given by Obama himself. While she may not be a slut, she's a Liberal Democrat shill, which is much worse.

Anonymous said...

Rush is and will stay the face of the Republican Party, and remain their leader. He don't need no stinkin' advertisers anyway. All his listeners would gladly send him $100.00 per week if necessary, Wordkyle would probably send at least $250.00 per week. However, David Brooks on one of the Sunday though said that Rush has no bearing on conservative politicians. Of course, David Brooks is a Republican, so he is probably lying. Probably all the Rush supporters would think Brooks was lying, cause they know how much influence Rush has on the Republicans. Rush is the supreme leader. The Ayatollah of Conservatives. The El Rushbo of Conservative Mexicans. The Godfather of the anarchists. Rush Rules!

wordkyle said...

932 - I finally realized, after several years of seeing sincere comments like yours, that Liberals take huge comfort in viewing Conservatives the simplistic way that you do. If you realized that the huge majority of Americans who consider themselves Conservative are intelligent, honest, independent-minded people, you'd be forced to take a good look at your own beliefs. Why do most Conservatives vote Republican? Because it's the only option they have. The Democrat party abandoned traditional America decades ago. The fallacy of your cartoon-based observations is made obvious by the Republican primaries. Republican voters are as non-monolithic and independent as can be imagined. No one resource guides them, including Rush Limbaugh and especially the Republican leadership. (Q: When was the last time regular Democrat voters seriously disagreed with the Democrat leadership and took action?) If you hide behind your simplistic misconceptions of Republicans, at least acknowledge that you're fooling yourself.

Anonymous said...

Talking about sluts and the spreading of legs, what was Ol' El Rushbo doing with illegal viagra while at the Dominican Republic, where even child sex rings operate? Or was he meeting one of his future wives? Only Ol' El Rushbo knows. Calling others a slut? Ha. Ha. He is a slut in real life and on the radio. Maybe he should also start calling himself "El Viagra-O" a sure fire way to boost ratings among advertisers. Especially that bathtub in the woods crowd. He excites his base in many ways......unquestioned obedience and loyalty. Even worship......The God Of the hard core right wing fringe. A very moral, can't stay married conservative. Typical example of a conservative that does a lot of finger pointing.

You are so right although I doubt any of the libs will be reading the manifesto. They are too busy sucking at the government tits to worry about losing this country. The ironic thing in all this turmoil is why do they want free contraception? Most of them don't use what's available to them and now society will be paying for their recklessness forever because they represent a hugh block of democrat voters.

Anonymous said...

3:37 and 9:04 Absolutely!

wordkyle said...

1122 - What is the relevance of your question? It's nice that you're familiar with the Beatitudes, but how did "peacemaker" enter the discussion? If you're introducing it, then give some context -- e.g., who else you consider "peacemakers," and how they qualify -- and why that standard is important to you. By bringing something up out of the blue and demanding a yes-or-no answer, you're trying to establish a standard that no one else has been held to.

By the way, since you want to use the Beatitudes as a reference point, you're clearly familiar with Matthew 5:10 - "Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake." or even Matthew 10:34.

I'm glad we've had this chance to discuss theology.
