Only to you, 9:57. The rest of us don't give a rat's patootie. But that's ok. You'll keep bringing it up anyway.

What is the current rating for DISD schools? From TEA:
District: Recognized
DHS: Acceptable
MMS: Acceptable
Carson: Acceptable
Rann: Recognized
Young: Recognized
Trending up or Trending Down?
I would say that it was trending upward, considering the standards have increased and changed each year. Who knows what will happen with the new STAAR test. Getting rid of CSCOPE would certainly figure into failure. Are the new board members willing to risk that? Scenario: New board members get elected, they convince the board to abandon CSCOPE, new STAAR Test Ratings appear. They SUCK!! Who you gonna blame?

How are district finances?Excellent
Trending up or Down? Trending down due to budget cuts from the state. Look for more to come. Write your legislator!

What is the condition and investment in athletic facilities? They are looking great! So are all the other facilities since the Board, Mr. Townsend and Merl Pryor have been working on them. All facilities have never looked better, especially since general upkeep and maintenance appeared to have never been a past priority.
Trending up or trending down? Trending UP! Along with all other facilities! Yay! Good for Decatur ISD!

What is the investment level in teacher compensation and academic staff? Excellent! Compare to Graham ISD, similar size but not in Wise County. Their website shows their beginning teacher pay last year as $32,240. Decatur ISD's web site shows $41,000. I betcha someone in Graham would be happy to have Decatur ISD's teacher salary!
Trending up or trending down? Trending up! Salary increases have been given over the past several years. Step increases have been given each year!

What are the facts?
Those are the facts, Jack!

More interesting facts from TEA:
Last years final enrollment: 3,007
Enrollment in 1995-96: 2,036

Last year Economically Disadvantaged: 42.9% (1,289 kids)
1995-96: 33.3% (678 kids)

Last year Hispanic Student: 32.3% (969 kids)
1995-96: 21.6% (439 kids)

Last Year Grade Level Enrollment:
Ranged from 194 kindergarteners to 260 9th graders
1995-96 Grade Level Enrollment:
Ranged from 103 Seniors to 180 7th Graders

Last Year Staff to Student Ratio: 7 students to 1 staff
1995-96 Staff to Student Ratio: 8.3 students to 1 staff

Nearly everything is from TEA's website except for the Athletic facilities. I got that information from just paying attention.

7 students to 1 staff? What???? Your facts are way off according to my list of students.

As for who is on the school board, I don't even know all of their names. They haven't done anything for us and I don't expect them to. But your spin doctoring, that's all a bunch of crap. Just saying.

Keeping it real, Jack!

In my years of being in public education I've found that the only thing more destructive to the system than the state is the hoard of parents who offer no positive input and are eager to let everyone know.

Anonymous said...

Of course GRAHAM ISD pays $8,000 less.....But we have turf! GO STEERS!

"Staff to Student Ratio: 7 students to 1 staff."

Staff = Office staff, Teachers, Instructional aides etc. It isn't classroom size.

As for who is on the school board - that is your fault - they have public meetings monthly and are all active in the community. Read a paper, attend a meeting or ask a question - to complain about the school board on that level shows your ignorance and not the boards inaction.

"In my years of being in public education I've found that the only thing more destructive to the system than the state is the hoard of parents who offer no positive input and are eager to let everyone know."

This is the wisest thing I have read in a while.

The election is in May. Are we going to tit for tat for another couple of months??

Why the hell every time Barry posts an above the fold picture there seems to be a Decatur School Board post? It seems like someone barging into a conversation at a party to talk about their car when you were talking about your vacation.

Also, it seems that if anything positive is posted here there seems to be an automatic cynical and skeptical response. Sounds like Teabaggers. You had one person that posted factual information so that dumbass negative comments don't go unanswered.

CSCOPE or no-when the STAAR comes in, scores across the state will tank.

The STAAR is designed to be a more rigorous test, and it is supposed to be a better indicator of college readiness.

The writing portion (at least at the secondary level) is vastly different from the TAKS writing. From 4th grade, students have been drilled in writing a personal narrative. It's going to take some time to teach them all expository and literary writing. It's going to be ugly for a few years...

Parents are the single biggest detriment to public education! Either they are not involved or overly involved. Of course, this doesn't apply to all, but those that take no interest hurt their kids. Those that take too much interest also hurt their kids. Those who are too invested in this are the ones who are raising wimpy kids who can't take care of themselves.
Some are quick to criticize, but slow to commend. These hurt more.

This is a sad commentary regardless of where you stand on candidates. My take is the chaos needs to stop and a change is warranted! Listen to yourselves!
We should be behind our kids and teachers and not fighting over fields, grass, fences, and curriculum.

You'll sound like a bunch of rascals!

Anonymous said...

NO curriculum, C-scope or any other, KNOWS how to cover the STAAR test because NO STAAR test has been given yet.

Where does this more and more rigorous testing end? The kids already get sick with worry and fear when they had to take the TAKS tests. Now they are getting more rigorous? Harder? Why?

Are we expecting elementary school kids to someday handle high school material? High schoolers to handle PHD graduate material?

Grade levels are there for a reason! Brains, minds, devlop right along with the physical body. That takes some time and growth! Why don't we just expect our babies to pop out of the womb and start their own businesses?

Absurdity! Education and educators have become absurd and the common everyday folk swallow it all up as though nothing can be done about it.

STOP THE RIDICULOUS TESTING unless it remains grade level material!!!
That's enough!

Want to see an incompetent school board and superintendent in action? Just take a look at Chico ISD! The article in The Messenger this weekend of them giving the AD a $10,000 pay raise for losing is just the tip of the iceberg!!! More dirt will be coming out soon!!

1247---You are an idiot. Everyone loves to talk trash about BIG GOVERNEMENT involved in our healthcare, energy and social welfare. However, when it comes to public education, everyone turns a blind eye. The government is destroying this country and now they are in our schools. This college readiness is a load of garbage. This country has changed the way the world operates from the industrial revolution until the 1990s with the technological revolution. Suddenly someone wants to try to fix something that aint broke and control another aspect of our lives. I hope parents continue to put the hammer on anyone they can until the whole damn thing crashes. I hope the government would find you and send you to camp gittmo for dumb asses.

I dont know what all the talk is about with the Decatur School Board elections. To me its simple just to ask yourself this question. Is your school district better today than it was the last election. If you think it is, then go ahead and vote for the existing members. If you are not satisfied, then vote for the other candidates. My children go to Young and I personally think that things really suck.

Looks like the high society ex DHS wannabees are learning that they are getting a taste of their own medicine. New money has come in and CSCOPE is in place and they cant handle it. Their goal in life was to have little susie follow in mommies footsteps of Decatur glory......

CSOPE rocks!

Chico doesn't have dirt silly.....it's the home of " rock" !

2:53, "new money has come in." ???????????????

That comment should raise some eyebrows during a time when money is being cut right and left and teachers are losing their jobs.

Something is fishy!

Anonymous said...

New money come in....refers to new families....as opposed to old Decatur families.....not district money.....you need to keep up with the blog terms man...or woman......

I smell change in the wind!

ALL of the testing is tied to the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.) The TEKS are grade level specific. Nothing is tested that is above above grade level.

The TEKS for each course and grade level are available on the TEA website.

I'm NOT a fan of all the testing-it wastes valuable instruction time and vast amounts of money. But it is grade level appropriate.

Why should Decatur high school be powered by turbins......is there a lot of hot fast wind up on that ole hill??????
