We got us some good choices for Decatur School Board!
About time!

Yay, 9:08.
Now everything will be ok!
Yeah, you'll be right back bitchin before you know it.

It is great to see some quality female candidates for Decatur School Board. It bas been a very long time since we had a quality female board member.

Anonymous said...

I don't really think we have choices. We either had what we've had in the past, not wonderful, but now we've got hot mamas with axes to grind and agendas only related to curriculum, nothing else. Sad state of affairs!

Barry, Houston Trial your wrong as you often are, and all three of the News channels gave you open shot at the results of smoking Mary Jane and driving like an idiot. Maybe Tommy needs to watch and learn.

Anonymous said...

The next step for this website is to find a pic of the driver and post it. Right?

What a shame--to run on curriculum issues as opposed to athletic agendas like the last board members elected!

Anonymous said...

There are also some BAD choices for rhome city council, citizens need to remember what Godfrey did to the city the last time he was in office

Anonymous said...

I understand what you're saying about athletic backers. But we don't need parents on their who are already badmouthing the teachers, administration, etc. on FB. I don't want a board member with an axe to grind, I want one who truly cares about ALL of DISD, not just athletes or trying to get their way.
I'm all for women being on the board and we've had some good ones. But I want women who can think logically, reasonably, and not emotionally. the same goes for the men. I just look at this as a board of concerned citizens, not male or female.
However, I do believe is these mamas are elected, they will be in for a shock as to how a board truly operates. It takes a tremendous about of time, energy, studying, and looking at the whole picture, not just from a slanted view.
Good luck, DISD.

Anonymous said...

Yea! to the ladies who are running for DISD school board. Curriculum should be the driving force in ALL schools and DISD can't seem to see the forest for the trees. 9:43, being a board member isn't any huge job, some just want you to believe it is. Have common sense, don't fall for the "newest" and most expensive fix all's! Put some faith in your teachers and have some respect for your educators!! Best of luck to the women who are concerned about using common sense for our kids best interests.... all of the kids and not just athletes or coaches.

Anonymous said...

Hey Runaway Bay voters! Two incumbents are running for council. Here's your chance to vote out those jerks. Vote for change. (The mayor is unopposed.)

Anonymous said...

I am 9:43. I do know how much more time it takes to be on the school board than most people think. I have been a teacher and I know that it is a thankless job.

However, we CANNOT have school board members that are focused in one area. I know that curriculum, of course, is the main reason for school. But there are so many other facets of a well-rounded education.

But many of you are missing the point. Yes, we need an excellent curriculum to be carried out by the teachers. For the vast majority of the schools, we already have the fine and dedicated teachers in place. They are doing a fabulous job and being attacked by at least one of these candidates. But the point is, we don't need board members who are angry and only care about the one area. That is their mission--not to improve schools, but to get rid of CScope.

CScope isn't the answer, but there are nuggets of good in everything and it is a guideline, not to be used exclusively, but to make sure all teachers are teaching everything to be covered by STAAR.

If you really want to change things, get the state to change its testing. That is the real impediment to good education!

9 AM, is that the guy who crybabied he was stressed in the paper after the citizens got mad at him for firing their old police chief , and quit because he couldnt handle it, yet blamed it on his declining health, which everyone knew was a lie? If so, Rhome's current police personnel should be getting out the vote for the opposition.

Men are allowed to be passionate about an issue...women are called emotional. Shame on you for making this a gender issue!

Anonymous said...

Joey L for bored

Anonymous said...

Sounds like these hot mamas are making some peopleIn high places a little nervous and maybe even accountable?

Anonymous said...

No, not making them nervous, just hurting some teachers who are only doing their jobs.

Sorry about the gender--men and women are both emotional and passionate. I didn't mean to slight anyone.

Anonymous said...

Seems to me that if the people elect a representative, to any position, on the basis of one issue, then it is that person's duty to apply themselves to that one issue until it is solved to the electorate's satisfaction. If they are not happy with the results, then elect someone else until you are.

Anonymous said...

So in other words, 11:52, youre complaining because someone is actually trying to change what they dont like?!

Anonymous said...

I have respect for both of these women for being brave enough to actually run against two incumbent school board members. I know both of them are certified teachers and both have children attending school at Decatur ISD and are not just "looking for an ax to grind". They are wanting to make a difference, in not just the curriculum, but in everything that involves students, teachers and parents. They are not into the "good ole boy", "slap on the back" attitude that is going on with some of the board members and the administration.

Anonymous said...

Read the Decatur ISD Board Legal Status Powers and Duties and tell me where does it state that board members have a responsibility to agitate and micro manage???

Anonymous said...

"They are not into the "good ole boy", "slap on the back" attitude that is going on with some of the board members and the administration."

Then why are they having witch hunt sessions at Braums, trash talking the administrators and having and being involved in FB bitch sessions - none of which are in any way constructive or positive towards their children's education?

Okay 4:04, before you spout off about things you think you know about, maybe you should collect some more facts! I applaud these two ladies for wanting a change in many areas of DISD. They don't have an axe to grind with cscope, they want the best education DISD can offer all
of our children. If wanting a positive change for our children is seen as a witch hunt, trash talking bitch session, I will be guilty as charged. Maybe some of you others should nut up and stop drinking the kool-aid and stand up for your children and their education!

Anonymous said...

I only hope if the 2 get elected they put a stop to all the sports emprovements and keep a few extra teachers around and less sports spending. I bet they don't go around telling people it for the kids .....

Anonymous said...

Maybe they like ice-cream at the same time? I like Braums mint ice-cream.....maybe they do too?

Anonymous said...

Yes, 6:04 is right. It is great to try to change something that you don't like, but do it aboveboard, not with furtive meetings and through facebook. It is not right to denigrate hardworking educators who are merely doing as their job dictates. These women, especially one, have hurt feelings and made enemies of the very people who are teaching their children. This is not the type of person I want on my school board.
I just don't believe that they have any other interest in the schools other than what's on their agenda==getting rid of CScope.

Anonymous said...

6:04, are you saying people who want change in the board are not allowed to meet and discuss the changes needed, or discuss the board members who need to be removed? Are you taking away their 1st admendment rights? Do you understand why there are elections? You have shown yourself to be a total idiot!
These women are not on a witch hunt! They are simply running for a position on a school board so they can make a difference in what the board has for its priorities! Believe me, they are both extremely educated and passionate about keeping things grounded and not allowing "fly off the handle" knee jerk reactions to new state tests! I'm so proud to see someone stand up to say that this craziness in purchasing curriculums is not acceptable! Also, even though they are both very supportive of athletics, they have their heads on straight when it comes to monies given athletics. BUDGET is critical now and athletics should feel the crunch long before classroom teachers or students in academia should! I'm praying and hoping the good citizens of Decatur will elect these two ladies! I have a strong feeling things in DISD will take a positive turn!

Anonymous said...

8:21, if you are a c-scope backer, then you don't have enough sense to even be commenting on this blog! Good grief!

Anonymous said...

"Maybe some of you others should nut up and stop drinking the kool-aid and stand up for your children and their education!"

So if we don't agree with the vocal few we don't care about our children's education??

Hmmm - interesting.

And they DO have an axe to grind with C Scope. But I guess since they are running for the board they are trying to spin it differently.

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with having an axe to grind with C-scope? C-scope is not necessary, costs and astronomical amount of money and ties the hands of teachers who truly know how to teach. I have an axe to grind with C-scope! We already pay our teachers to teach our kids. They ARE professionals who know their jobs. To pay more money (huge amounts) for a ridiculous curriculum that is not proven (do your research) is insane!
Some of you people need to wise up and see just who is talking "the talk" just to keep an administrative job, and who actually has done research to find that money is spent frivously on unproven material!

Anonymous said...

I wonder how many of these CScope supporting, adminstrator backing, school board loving folks belong to the same family? It is not against the rules, but it is disturbing that a certain school board member is the brother of a current administrator. Nepotism at its finest. Good ole DISD at its finest! I say let's make a change!!

Anonymous said...

I'm not for CScope, but I'm also not for criticizing teachers for doing the job laid out for them.
As was stated earlier, even CScope has some positives in it. The trick is to take the good from that, add it to what an experienced teacher already teaches, and you have a good education. But CScope or any other curriculum is great for a new teaacher who has no resources to lean back on.
But I do believe there is a witch hunt afoot.
A novel idea-- quit being such helicopter parents. Let teachers teach. They're doing an excellent job. Quit hanging around the school trying to find out what's going on, quit walking your kids to class...drop them off at the door, then go do something else. The kids will be okay.
Quit having "meetings" to stir up trouble.

I went to the town hall and am proud of the lady who stood up to the sup. I think most of the teachers have her back. Its not just a state problem. I am an employee of the distict and am getting tired of being treated like a pack mule. If. Curriculum isn't an. Important. Issue, then tell me what is? What else should be an issue, turf, baseball fields or free lunches? Its refreshing to hear passion in peoples voices about topics related to education. It gives me hope...go mamas!

Anonymous said...

I believe the election you are talking about happens next may and that would be three seats up that need to be voted on for change.

Anonymous said...

What exactly is this "witch hunt"? What are they doing that classifies being proactive about childrens education as going on a witch hunt? You quite obviously do not know these women very well! I do know one of them and I will tell you she is extremely intelligent! She has researched to find out the truth about the curriculum in my childrens schools! Wanting to make a change in one area does not mean that these women do not know or realize they will have to deal with ALL the issues of a school board! Its no different than a man running because he wants to get athletics upgrades or to control the school calendar so he can gain more time with his children at holidays!

What have the 2 men that these women are running against done that has made an impact or positive change for the district?? Someone PLEASE answer this!

I would LOVE to see both of these women win!

Anonymous said...

Actually, I do know one of them and I do know she's extremely intelligent. That doesn't always equal rational and reasonable. And I like her very much, but not in this capacity.

Anonymous said...

715 is obviously a man!

Anonymous said...

Some fundamental facts left out of the above back and forth.

The local board can do little about STARR and NCLB other than say we will ignore the results....and that is deadly.

All the staff and admin are not doing a wonderful job......or we would be exemplary. Most are, but enough aren't to keep us mediocre.

The current board is solidly focused on athletics only....look at their accoomplishments to date

I admire these two ladies courage but they will not succeed. They may at least open a conversation about really good schools.

Anonymous said...

I also know both of the ladies running. They are great women, good mothers (if not a little over involved) and are a great asset to the community on many levels - they just are not the right people for the school board.

@ 320... Such little faith? @ 340.... Who are the right people, please explain?

You all run your potty mouths and we will stomp 'em again

Too bad Green can't charge you guys that are running this anonymous smear campaign. On the other hand, your low down dirty finger pointing is probley helping the mamas campaigns. Who wants to vote for two faced people? Not me!

Anonymous said...

5:20, wow, you really believe your word is gold? Ha!
These two women WILL succeed because they ARE running for the right reasons. Run them down all you want, but you can't take away their intelligence, their experience, and their passion for what is RIGHT for our kids. Both have investments in athletics, but neither unconditionally fund athletics when academics is lacking. That is enough for any real parent of a school aged child to admire!! My vote, my co-workers vote, and my grown children's vote will go to these two women. Bring on the common sense that they stand for!

Anonymous said...

We made the playoffs in nearly every sport this year. A little more support and we have a good shot at a state championship or two! Don't take that from our kids!

Anonymous said...

School boards have been silenced long enough under the rhetoric of "micromanaging." I can guarantee that your current board members did not run for the position free of an "agenda." Agendas are like opinions and assholes, everyone has one. Only when the agenda does not go along with certain norms is it called an agenda. I work in another Texas district, but folks all across the state are being CSCOPED whether they supposedly need it or not. What other curriculum ever, in the history of curriculums, has been adopted state-wide as CSCOPE will be when it's all over? Talk about an agenda!!!!!!! Talk about micromanaging!!!!!!! I am pleased to hear that parents and community members are standing up to this albatross! There must be an honest debate here. Teachers have been silenced! Do not allow them to silence parents and community members too!
