Trophy Trashing

Respect

What ya Think?

The Bridgeport Trophy Trashing represents a total lack of respect for the community. Someone needs to be held accountable for this behavior.

DHS did some house (trophy case) cleaning several years ago. They put the word out and offered the trophies to anyone who wanted them. BMS should have done the same thing.

I hold 9:08 accountable.

The parents of these students show what fetal alcohol syndrome can do to a district.

give the kids medals that they can keep and the hell with giving schools trophies.

Right now 90% of Bridgeport is on the hunt, trying to find where the Meth Club is... ♫

The board will step in a handle this pathetic situation.
Time for change
Failing schools
Missing AYP
Trashin Trophies
What next.

i see the Mess has picked up another story from your blog. thanks again barry for bringing us the breaking news.

The meth club is rumored to have a great trophy display

What would "an educator with. Taxpayers mindset" say about all this trophy hub bub?

Those trophy moms and kids should storm the school Board meeting. They have exposed the leadership as more untrustworthy than the Newark, Rhome, and Bridgeport councils combined.

Trophy gate is an embarrassment to our community

Speaking of school issues, I see that Decatur is having a forum about the CScope curriculum. Maybe there is hope for teachers. For the record, we hate CScope. It's a joke. Also, our class sizes are atrocious. Bring that up at the meeting, please. I wouldn't mind having more than a 50 minute conference to plan for the 140+ students that I teach daily, also. If y'all would throw in a xanax candy machine in the teacher lounge, I might even try to hold off of my nervous breakdown until June.

8:16, why don't the DISD teachers come as a collective group with a spokesperson and speak at the open forum. Teachers are also citizens, and many have kids in the system. Have the teachers been told they are not to come or speak there? Until teachers grow a backbone and stand up as the professionals they all are, NOTHING will change. You all earned your degrees, you are the ones in the trenches and yet your voices are quiet? You must fight this fight, and as professional educated educators, you all must be the ones to say you will not buy into some flimsy screenplay of a curriculum. Parents are NOT educators. They do not know what is best in the classroom, nor do school board members. Only YOU do! Speak up! Make a stand! You cannot be fired for speaking your mind!

The forum is another joke!
The new Sup likes them because no one shows up.

If parents start griping to the school board, the new sup better start paying attention because they are the ones that renew his contract and parents are the ones that vote school board members into office. Then again, this is the same school board that elected to give him a 10,000 raise while laying off teachers and raising our class sizes. I think there was something mentioned in the justification of his raise about raising teacher morale in the district. I'm still waiting on that xanax candy machine. Also, you can forget about us saying a thing at that forum meeting. We will have our adminstrators waiting on us at school. They have ways of keeping us silent. And in this economy, I have to keep my mouth shut...except on this sweet little anonymous blog.

You teachers are afraid to speak? Intimidation has no place in education if schools are to be successful. The fact that you say you all cannot speak your minds there speaks volumes. What will happen? They cannot fire you for speaking your mind. Join a teachers professional group and bring your lawyers with you. Teachers cannot afford to stay quiet on this topic of C-scope or any other bought curriculum.

The Decatur board is getting ready to ask voters for a tax increase. They need it to fund more raises for the Sup and CSCOPE

Of COURSE no teacher will ever be fired for speaking his/her mind. But those who do may end up with 35-40 kids in a class, and they may have to teach 5 preps. With the huge numbers in a class, those teachers may easily find themselves being written up for failure to maintain discipline.

You would be stunned at the number of ways that a determined administrator can cause a teacher to be unable to perform his/her job.

an eye opener for DISD Patrons

11:07, I won't be stunned. I was in education for 37 years. I always spoke my mind because way back when, that is what teachers did. We were considered professionals and not wall flowers. Document the changes, if they occur after speaking your piece. Have an attorney, TSTA, TCTA, TFT, etc present at the meeting, because if you have paid to join those associations, then you have paid for representation. Teachers CAN and SHOULD stand together! I've just not seen the backbone that teachers used to have. That concerns me for our education process. There IS a grievance process also, right? Why aren't teachers using that process to speak their minds? Step up! I've seen ONE teacher speak against C-scope in a public newspaper. Is there no one else who will stand with her?

I would hesitate to expect good things from a group with such a poor track record of decision making
That Decatur group ihas a really poor record
Teachers better watch their backs

No CSCOPE
No Peace.

Decatur has really put some dollars into improving athletic facilities. New fencing, seats, parking, and much more.

C scope is the worst excuse for a math curriculum I have ever seen in all my years of teaching. 7:08 your points are right but education has changed over the years. Teachers are no longer listen to by administration, they are not believed, they cannot dicipline kids anymore, the administration does not back them with parents. The list goes on, even if you have documented things, every teacher on campus knows you are being picked on, the attorneys want you to take offers instead of fighting, money has everything to do with it when it comes down to it. We all have to have jobs, teaching jobs are harder to find, so you go along because you are being scared. Education will not change until our administrators stand with, support, and listen to the teachers. Older teachers are not valued anymore, young ones are cheaper and easier to manipulate than the older ones. The state certifies people that are not education majors and requires very little work to become a teacher. I know of several college students that are majoring in something else but are going to become teachers but they don't want to have to do the student teaching because of having jobs. The whole education system is a mess, I don't have the answers if I did I could become rich. Society needs to change. Values need to change. About teachers standing up, the Bridgeport teachers were told to make no comments to the press. So if they did they could be held to insubordination write ups. Education needs to be fixed.

AFT for Texas Teachers!

I thot a CSCOPE was an embarassing medical procedure that required stirrups. My bad...

8:45 Oh yes you can!!!!

Bridgeport voters voted in a person that doesn't even send their kids to the Bridgeport School District! How can you sit on a board of a school that you obviously don't believe in?

Anonymous said...

This started as a Bridgeport problem and appears to move to a Decatur problem. What's that about?

Anonymous said...

5:43pm hit nail on head, although that board member was voted in, THEN moved his kids to Paradise.

Needs to step up and resign his seat on the board. Man up.
