Picture (which they are catching some heat over) from the Messenger Facebook page -- posted about three hours after the crash, No names have been released until "next of kin are notified."
I drove up on this within seconds of it happening. The driver of the 18 wheeler was just getting out of his truck and running across the street to check the other driver. I saw that pick up and knew that driver probably couldn't have survived. Thanks to the Messenger, I had this vivid picture going back through my head All night long and slept very little last night. I can't even imagine how the family could deal with seeing this...
The people at the Messenger obsess over getting photos like this (I know because I used to work there).
When I was a reporter at other newspapers, publishing these kinds of photos was generally regarded as in very bad taste and actually irresponsible.
Trust me, this is not a Joe Duty thing, this is a thing that Roy Eaton was obsessed with, and the new publisher apparently saw fit to continue the tradition.
9:36 - I did not witness the accident happen or I would have stopped. I drove through slowly with my 3 young children all speechless to what they were seeing and I prayed for the man in the truck and for the family that would be soon notified. As I drove by I only got a glimpse of the truck. I was only making the point that seeing that photo was a more graphic look than what I even saw as I drove by. Not being a "wimp" just have a heart and thinking lots about the fact that someone's loved one didn't come home last night.
I also drove up on the wreck yesterday, I was the first car behind the rock hauler, when I ran across, the rock hauler and two men were there....they apparently had seen that there was nothing that could be done, I did not sleep much last night either thinking about the horrible thing that had happened....how sad when there is a life that has been lost and people start jumping on the bandwagon about "was it the rock haulers fault" or was an "illegal" involved,it was a loved one of someone's that was taken.....don't make it worse, and I'm not talking about the picture....
Whoever this was..RIP. May your family and friends find peace in the next few days. To the rock hauler (of which I am also one of) I am sorry you had to go through this. It sucks all the way around, for everyone involved. By the grace of God and a touch of luck I have driven 15 years with no accidents but that doesn't mean it won't happen tomorrow. And those of you attacking Joe Duty, like another commenter stated this is not Joe's work. He has more class than this. I have known him for years.
2:19 slow down and read the excerpt for the Texas Traffic Law.
Texas Transportation Code Section 550.021 states that the driver of a vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury or death of another must stop at or close to the scene or immediately return if unable to stop.

I didn't stop because 1.) there were already a group of men there "helping" - on their cell phones calling 911 I'm guessing, because apparently that's all they could do. I never said I was the first on the scene. 2.) As I stated before, I was alone with my 3 kids. What did you want me to do - pull over and leave my 3 kids alone in the car so they could get out and wander onto 114 while I left them unattended in the car? If my husband had been with me, you better believe we would have pulled over - as we always do when we come upon an accident. You people are so quick to pass judgement when you have no clue the circumstances!
Get off the ladies ass. She's right other people were on scene and her kids don't need to carry this around. God bless all involved. Its a cold hard fact of death. It very well could of been your family. Maddawg
When too many cars pull to the side to "stop and render aid" they are also creating a traffic hazard! I stopped on the side of the road once to "render aid." I had my 6 yr old daughter with me. It was cold, snowing and the roads were slick. Three other vehicles also stopped. One was just pulling to the side when a pickup came over the hill only to find the roadway blocked by 1. the wrecked vehicle and 2. the car that had slowed to pull over. The driver of that truck hit his brakes and began to slide sideways straight toward my car where I was sitting and speaking to 911, my daughter at my side. Just before he slammed into the front of my car he accelerated - drove into the barditch- fishtailed, almost ran through a fence then somehow (miraculously) maneuvered out of the ditch and drove on past all of us. My 6yr old and I both almost were involved in a very serious accident (and could have been killed) because there were TOO MANY VEHICLES STOPPED at the first accident! So stop bitching at these people who drove slowly by and continued on. They SAW people there already so they did not create a traffic hazard and they got on out of the area. Some of you people need to wise up!(especially you, 2:19!)
The lady was absolutely correct to not stop and get in the way of first responders...she was in no way legally required to stop and render aid. She had her kids in the car who did not need to see anymore than they had already seen. May the victim RIP.
For all you dumb $#@'s that seem to think all accidents are rock haulers fault,my husband has hauled rock for 30 years with multiple safe driver awards and no accidents. It only takes afew bad apples to make everyone look bad so before passing judgement (which only God is to do)keep in mind many rock haulers are hard working family men.
6:43, I believe the story reported that the pick-up veered into the path of the rock truck. Rock truck driver tried to avoid collision, to no avail. Your rant on here is out of place.

If that had been my family member I might be having words.
If you veer into oncoming traffic any road is dangerous.
Tragic.
Scary. I only missed this accident by about 30 minutes. Don't think I could have handled seeing it.
Shame on the messenger, but you know you can increase your ratings by posting it also. I saw it here first...Congratulations!
Was this on the big curve on FM2123 where the big trees are at?
This is pornographic.
that is really unacceptable posting fatality wrecks, when the bodies are still warm!!! Obviously you would recognize a persond truck
Let me guess. Rock truck?
8:31 The best advise I could give on your post is don't veer into oncoming traffic and you won't get yourself posted on the news.
Just saying
Was an illgal involved?

9:05, any reason you didn't get off your ass and try to help out?
Rage
Its a wrecked pickup. Big deal. Bad things happen. Grow a pair.
9:05 - The Messenger caused you to have a bad night... and not the fact you saw it with your own eyes? Are you having a "heavy" day? Wimp.....
Rage, You are one sick person. I would suggest you make a copy of your posts here for the past few months and provide copies to a phychiatrist.
What's sick about expecting a person who comes upon a wreck to help out?
Rage
9:05
Huh?
You admitted driving up on the accident within seconds of it's occurrence.
You described in detail what you saw with your own eyes.
You want to blame the Messenger for your sleepless night?
Have you been smoking some of that weed laced with another drug?
KOO KOO

I bet Tom Bishop and Joe Duty bot ran as fast as they could to get to the wreck one to beat the DPS and one to get the photo op.
11:04 - needing some attention? Haven't been hugged lately and told it'll be ok? Good grief... you ARE a wimp.

Rage, what did you people want him to do? Drag the crushed dead body out of the wreck?
11:36 - well said!!

12:15, at least get out and see if he could help. He's just giving excuses for why he didn't.

TO THE PERSON WHO DIDNT STOP, IN MY WORLD WE CALL THIS FAILURE TO STOP AND RENDER AID. I WISH I KNEW WHO YOU ARE SO I COLD FILE CHARGES ON YOU.
