Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • The Messenger's above the fold story today concerns the death of the Decatur freshman and its lead editorial is about bullying although they also say there is "no evidence" of suicide. It's unusual for them to cover the elephant-in-the-room, but I'm not critical of it.
  • Congrats to the Lady Aggies for winning the women's basketball championship last night. That game was a heck of a lot more entertaining than the men's game on Monday night.
  • But I'll admit to confusion as the Aggies coach danced "The Dougie" after the game. (Video) Yep, I had to look it up. And finding Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton doing it at a basketball game a couple of days ago was worth the effort.
  • Dish Network bought Blockbuster in the middle of the night at auction for $230 million? Why?
  • Having a full calender at work is a beating until you consider the alternative.
  • A skinny LeAnn Rimes sang the National Anthem the other night in Houston. Hey, now.
  • Weeping Willow tree update: If it were a person, I would have called an ambulance yesterday.
  • I haven't heard much about Bridgeport ISD teacher cuts. (Plano ISD made news by laying off 223 and an additional 123 support staff yesterday.)
  • The new Republican House promised to slash the federal budget (which I'm all for.) Now it's time to put up or shut up as a federal government shutdown looms on Friday.
  • "You need to go back to the house even though the game is starting because the 2nd Grader In The House forgot her batting helmet." Patience. Be patient.
  • There wasn't much to the Bridgeport Index web site but now it seems to be gone

Congratulations, you now support the Tea Party position. Incidentally, weren't the Democrats supposed to take care of this budget last year, before the election?

Nothing wrong with a gal being thin, but Leann does not look healthy in that pic

Todays chick = SKANKTASTIC!!!

Prediction: Lee Ann winds up in treatment her for eating disorder very soon.

i just don't get the whole bully thing. When I was in school many many years ago, we had bullies then, too. That didn't make anyone go nuts....the nerds just stayed away from the bullies and the teachers intervened when someone got trashcanned or 'swirllied' in the commode. Geesh....there are more important issues in the world than bullies. Teach your kids to stand up for themselves and get over it. Stop whining.

LeAnn Rimes way to skinny... She looks sick.

Anonymous said...

LeAnn Rimes has been working out. I don't see a problem.

Anonymous said...

Sounds as if we need to lay off even more teachers and hire more bullying counselors. The children these days are tho thenthitive.

Now that's the kind of girl I wouldn't mind spending some time with — but I would NEVER introduce her to my parents!

I cried through the whole movie.

No worries, Bridgeport ISD is keeping their workforce! They do a great job with finances and football and a horrible job with kids and people!
If you get a job there you have it for a lifetime....
We take those that can't teach and move them to other subjects or central office. The Middle School is the worst and the High School is sadly not much better. A principal in my day looked out for the kids instead of covering for lazy or failing teachers. We have some Great teachers, but they are in the minority. If you really want to know what kind of job you are doing ask any recent graduate, most will be happy to tell you that BISD did not prepare them for college!

I actually watched some of the Aggies gam last night. Verdict. Very entertaining and a few hotties playing did not hurt.

Today's "The Eagle" cover...at least they're shaved.

Hate to tell you, but the Republicans have been trying to do this for a long time. They have continually been blocked by the Democrats.

This budget should have gotten passed last Fall, when (guess who!) the Dems were in charge. Unfortunately, they did not do it then and are doing everthing that they can do to stop one from being passed right now.

Meanwhile, as a huge government shutdown looms, just what is our President doing? He is not spending the weekend in town trying to avoid this! He is heading off to Ohio and New York to continue his never-ending campaign. While in NYC, he is scheduled to speak to Al Sharpton's supporters at the National Action Network.

I think the Blockbuster deal looks good for several reasons. I thin k Blockbuster had some exclusivity deals with some of the movie companies and maybe that would give Dish an advantage on their pay-per-view offerings. I also think Blockbuster had a pretty decent infrastructure built to provide movies over the Internet. They just got into the game a little late. As for the physical stores, there was a local video store down the street that also sold satellite networks and installs and he did more business selling Dish than renting videos so maybe they will keep some of the buildings.

9:09, I must disagree with you. BISD has done and continues to do an excellent job preparing their graduates for life after high school. My daughter graduated from BHS a few years back and will be graduating with honors at TCU next month. My son and future daughter-in-law are both BHS graduates and are pre-law and accounting majors, respectively at Baylor. Both are continually on the Baylor Dean's List. There are many other success stories of BISD former students, these are just closest to home with me. Keep up the good work, BISD!

As a person who was bullied as a child, I can tell you that the best solution is to give the child enough latitude to stand up for himself without the fear of being punished.

For years, I allowed other children to bully me, but my parents told me repeatedly to just take it — because if I retaliate then I'll get myself in enormous trouble. It was the worst advice any parent could give a child!!!

Finally, after six consecutive YEARS of abuse and torment, and no indication that things were going to get any better, I beat the holy hell out of my No. 1 tormenter right in the middle of class. I gave him a black eye too....I did get suspended for three days, but, lo and behold, no one EVER messed with me again! It WAS worth it!!!!

(I should also add that complaints to teachers and principals about the problem beforehand accomplished NOTHING).

Today's chick is AWESOME!!!! Butter face..... Agreed; would love to spend some time with her, but no one needs to know ;O) LeAnn Rimes. NO!!!! Working out, maybe. Not eating, definitely.

In that pic, LeAnn looks like an ad for worm medicine. She needs to get her fighting weight back up to 125 at least so she doesn't look so much like a torn-up, 30 year old divorcee on the prowl.

Less binge-and-purge. More lean protein.

Oh dear, Leann looks horribly skinny. I hope she is not on drugs!

I hope you did not plant that weeping willow close to your sewer lines. Their roots are prone to wrap around the pipes and break them.

So, the awesomeness of today's banjo tuner is somewhat offset by encroachment of the mullet-head next to her. Just a request going forward; lets keep the frames filled with tuners only.

But yeah, nice one!

Looks like Lee Ann is going to beat my drugs-and-porn-star-by-30 prediction.

I think teacher contracts have already been submitted in Bridgeport. There were some position changes and moves prior, but I'll bet we are done now. And, start the flames now, but I will throw out a HSO; Eddie Bland has made a lot of people mad in BISD, but I'll bet a lot of those people will have jobs next year. Not saying anyone is perfect...

Willow tree prediction: if it does live, you will hate the mess it makes in your yard.

I love your updates about family life and family cats. Keep 'em coming.

Nice job BULLYING LeAnn Rimes, y'all.

Isn't it ironic, don't you think? (Yeah, I really do think.)

I'm all for a government shutdown this week! We know that the essential functions will keep operating.

So, could be an interesting experiment to shut down all the extraneous functions and see if we notice a difference without them.

I think if the public realizes how much money Washington wastes on crap we don't need--it might create an uproar to leave those operations shut down and save big.

Anonymous said...

LeAnn looks great. Today's chick needs to lose the gut.

I'm gonna go ahead and shove your nerdy comment down a flight of stairs now...

That's ironic!

I think DISH bought Blockbuster for the property.

What I find funny about Bridgeport ISD, is that there are several teachers that went through school while being in special education! These people are supposed to be teaching our children when their school work was modified for them!

Anonymous said...

anyone who thinks someone as anorexic looking as Rimes is must be blind. She looks sick, not sexy

RE: BISD

Ask anyone that went to a public, small town school and they'll most likely tell you that they weren't completely prepared for college.

It's parents/families that make the difference. Always has been.

The kids that do well post high school are the ones whose parents, more often than not, are involved, aware, and filling in the gaps left by the nature of public education.

Wanna really help kids? Quit pandering to the low end and expect everyone to "clear the same hurdles."

I can't remember the last time an employer, big or small, told me it was ok to produce sub-standard results because I was "special," needed extra help, or didn't speak the language.

Enough about bulling, for chrissakes. Teach your kids to stand up for themselves and to meet the bully out in the parking lot if necessary. I taught my kids to throw the last punch, not the first one.

As for Democrats and the budget, it's hilarious how short the Republican memory is. When the Republicans are in charge, they whine about the Democratic minority in the senate blocking legislation. When they do the same thing to the Democrats, they act like they never heard of such a thing.

Wordy and other budget reducers: over 90% of the federal budget is dedicated to Social Security, Medicare/Medicaid and Defense. There will be no real deficit reduction without changes to these programs - and/or tax increases. OK then, what exactly do you want cut from the "Big 3?"

Anonymous said...

Lots of employment cuts at the schools due to reduced state funding. Question: How many cuts to the number of coaches and athletic expenses?

Anonymous said...

This is not an I told you so, because who knew all the reductions in school staffing were coming. But, it sure does make me glad we are not paying for a new football stadium.

11:23, My nephew was bullied when he moved to a new school. He took it for several months, then one day he decided to stand up for himself, he punched the bully 1 time and shattered the kids cheek and caused damage to the bully's eye. Then my nephews family was hit with a lawsuit. Yes it is easy to say let the kids fight it out, but sometimes it causes more problems.

1128 - Let's start with eliminating all waste, fraud, redundancies and overlap. Follow that with the elimination of all built-in automatic increases plus review of, and valid justification for, all requests for budget increases. Restrict access to government benefits to those who are legally eligible (with effective verification of eligibility.) Establish some sort of free-market alternative to Social Security and gradually eliminate that Ponzi scheme.

Okay, that's enough. You get the idea. Basically anything other than knowingly drive off the cliff, which is what's happening now.

Can't we just borrow and spend our way out of debt like the weenies want? It works for me. Now excuse me there is a bill collector calling.

I sure am glad that Obammy is back to not resting until every American is back to work. Today he is promoting green jobs in Pennsylvania at a Spanish owned wind turbine company that last year shut down a plant in Spain, reduced it's remaining workforce by 10 per cent and opened a factory in China. It's kind of typical when he was promoting the electric car of the future at a battery plant in Michigan owned by the Koreans. If we could just have another month of lower than expected layoffs, we are well on our way to a booming economy and 4 and a half uneployment like we had under GBush.

Anonymous said...

11:28 - I will tell you what you can cut from the BIG 3...all of the money that medicaid spends on people here illegally. Then cut all the welfare and free housing that they get too.

Anonymous said...

What happens if the government shuts down?
IRS will stop processing paper returns. Unless you filed electronically your refund will not happen for a while.

U. S. Miliary personnell will not get paid, including combat troops that are supporting families back home.

800,000 government workers will be out of work, back pay not guaranteed when it's over.
(we really need 800,000 more folks not getting a paycheck)

Just a few of the things that will happen.

GIG 'EM!!! WHOOOOP!!

Way to go Lady Ags!!

Upstairs said...

Instead of looking at her underarms, just take one moment to enjoy the pure joy of the Lady Ags. Their joy isn't related to how much money they are going to make in the pros (none) or how high their draft pick number is. Simple joy in being their very best. Being a team. Winning it all. I am happy for them.

Anonymous said...

Yeah but blacks always have monkey underarms and it's nasty as hell.

Wow!
Decatur is throwing a bunch of long time employees under the bus.
