Without defending the Candie's Foundation completely -- let a CPA audit their books -- their stated mission is not to donate money to other organizations. From their website: "We are an operating foundation rather than a grant-making foundation. The foundation develops and runs communication campaigns to raise awareness about, and motivate teens to prevent, teen pregnancy." Essentially, they pay celebrities to do PSAs.
As for the question of whether Bristol Palin is actually "worth" the money being paid her -- in the year she became a spokesperson for Candie's contributions went up 275%, $1.2 million, from the year before. Was she responsible for any of that? That's what the people at Candie's decide.
And I guess nobody ever saw Scared Straight. Sometimes kids pay more attention to advice that comes from somebody who's already made the mistake.
All of this is just something for a thoughtful person to consider.

I think it is disgusting for a charity to pay money to spokespeople. The folks doing the speaking should feel guilty about it. There is no honor in doing the right thing because you got paid WELL to do it. If the money she spent was used for transportation/expenses to speak all over the country then that is something different. There is not enough information to make a rational decision about the money. How many times did she speak, where, who paid for the travel, hotel's, food, security, and misc expenses associated with the charity? A modest salary of some sort is ok with this kind of work but folks that get filty rich doing charity work is wrong and sends the wrong messsage.
If she was a Dem/Lib this would be acceptable and not even make it to the news.

What this Palin has done is indefensible. Maybe it is an "operating foundation," but it has been percieved as a "charity" which implies that money will go out as "grants."
And none of my tax money went to Haliburton during the Cheney/bush administration.

12:23, You are sadly mistaken. Some of your tax money went to Haliburton during the Bush Administration. Do you think they fed our troops and refueled tanks and aircraft for free? They also got it under the Clinton Administration with no bid contracts but you didn't seem to have a problem with that because Clinton has a D beside his name.
