Teacher Lay Offs In Chico

From a trusted source:

I'll have numbers on Chico teacher layoffs tomorrow. They have been putting the fear of god in them for weeks and there is a board meeting to decide tonight. The teachers are up in arms because they have added like ten administation-coordination positions the last few years and the super is supposed to get a raise tonight yet they are cutting teachers. Packed house at the board meeting.

[And as I completely drive this post off the road, the above image came up when I googled "chico, tx" images. What the heck is North Texas Outfitters? I'm no hunter, but does that sound particularly sporting?]

Yes, fence in the "big game" and drive around until you shoot something. That's MANLY hunting. pffftttt! If one wants to truly be a hunter, then go out into the wild and hunt for the meat of the game, not for some trophy on the wall. Sickening!

Eyes will open greatly in the next month or so when schools announce their cuts! Parents should be up in arms and make it clear that they will not support classes above a 22 to 1 (teacher student ratio). I have found, over the years, that when there is no superintendent, no assistant principals, no program directors, that schools still run rather well. Know why? It's because the TEACHERS are there every day and they care for the students. Cut the ridiculous admin's salaries and deal with the physical facilities as they are before cutting out teachers!!

This magnificant animal had to be shot in the gut just so that asshole could get a photo op?

What a pathetic commentary on the human species.

This just in from the abandoned K Mart building on the Chico Square-
There seems to be a rather large group of people gathering on ther lawn puttin up tents and settin up camp, Looks to be a Lynch Mob Justice gonna handle it!!!! Get a Rope!!!!

Chico got their practice field and all the no bid jobs the last few years to the board members and now they are feeling it because of bad decisions. They will cut the teachers because they don't want to face reality. You eventually have to pay for the things you steal. In this case the board stole and the town pays. This is all my opinion and nothing more.

Anonymous said...

Maybe if the board members would quit putting in liqour stores and start fixing the school it would help. Mugs and jugs is a disgrace to the town and how could any town allow a man like that be a representative of them for the future of the children.

Anonymous said...

7:52 Really? A liquor store is the least of your problems in Chico. Take your old Baptist butt on back to the dark ages!

Anonymous said...

I've always said that game ranches are for Hunters with small do-dads!For crying out loud, their shooting caged animals who are on a feeding schedule.

Anonymous said...

Present day Hunters are tards.

Anonymous said...

7:52.....your a moron. I was thinking a liquor store was good for Chico, so all the dope heads could "shop local" for liquor. Keep it in the community dude!

Anonymous said...

7:52: Have you ever thought that the liquor store in Chico could possibly bring something good to the declining economy that is Chico? Have you ever thought about how busy the liquor stores are in Bridgeport at any given time of the day?Have you ever thought about how many less DRUNK people will be driving the highway between Chico and Bridgeport to get their booze?

I, for one, am proud for the family that opened the liquor store to have the guts to stand up to hypocrites like you!

Anonymous said...

Oh yeah Barry, you put up the news about Chico, but not about Decatur Board Meeting.

Anonymous said...

Board voted to go minimium route on cuts but I expect more to come! Targeted 5 programs/teachers for elimination! Definitely some politics in play on who was chosen! Caught a lot of people off guard! Looking at eventually cutting 14 positions if state does what it says it will on budget cuts!!

Anonymous said...

What's goin on in Decatur?

Susie White said...

The problems facing Chico is NOT the fault of the board members. It is the fault of the state legislature. It is the same problem facing all school districts. It is slanderous to attack the board members, when none of them want to cut positions. You want to vent call King, Perry, and Estes.k

Anonymous said...

man, chico must be one f'd up place.

Anonymous said...

What about Alvords screwed up mess. We just hired an AD that was fired as a coach 3 yrs ago.

Anonymous said...

Some people here are worried about classroom student:teacher ratios above 22:1 when some countries such as Japan have ratios approaching 100:1 in many schools yet kick our kid's butts in many subjects, especially math and science. What's the difference? Student discipline and parental involvement. Amazing!

Anonymous said...

All you folks squabbling about board members, state legislatures, administrators and the like need to get a grip.

Who elected these dimwits? Dim-wits, that's who!

Who's worse, the individual who was born stupid or the one who chooses stupidity?

Anonymous said...

@ 9:33 and the rest of you who want to compare US schools with the so much better schools in other countries... One of the key reasons that Asian and European schools look so much better than ours is that they have no "special ed". If you’re “special” you go to “special school” that is nowhere near the “non-special” kids. With regards to immigrants—if you don’t know the language, you don’t go to school. American schools carry the dead weight with them and count the lack of success of our "special ones" in being “college ready” as a failure. Trying to teach science to a kid with an IQ less than 80 never seems to work out well.

Messed up fact #1 - He wasn't fired, he chose to resign after being unjustly reassigned. As far as most are concerened the board finally did what was right in rehiring someone who has a proven winning record and a strong work ethic.
To the Marions and Meltons of this world, I wonder how many other lies you will post on here and how many rumors you will spread at the coffee shop in town before you finally figure out - NO ONE IS LISTENING. Just a bunch of pathetic old men with axes to grind.

has chico won a football game yet?

Anonymous said...

I just want 752PM to shut up evidently you do not pay much attention to a dang thing cause the ones that put in MUGS AND JUGS are the ones that have made this damn town and school better... Get off your coach you old geezer get into reality and relize that The school board is not to blame. Watch the news its happening everywhere.....We have kids that go to school here and have their whole life so the last two years has been the best I have seen in chico schools so the school board has been doing a fine job...

Anonymous said...

10:11---if an IQ of 80 is your standard by which to judge the standard of education someone receives, then how in the world did you get yours? lol You are an idiot!

Anonymous said...

Chico should get Headrick to teach special ed and ag. He would probably be better at special ed because they are more on his level.

Anonymous said...

No, but they should have won a game because they got a new coach. What's up with that? When yall fired HART all your problems would be solved ??? Just maybe its the people that are playing thats the problem HUUUUUUUUM

Anonymous said...

Some how years ago teachers were able to teach us how to read, write and arithmetic. We had a principal, one office worker, a janitor and the cafeteria ladies! Sometimes we had two grades in one room. The superintendent had a secretary. We used text books until they wore out and only needed some paper and pencils for school supplies.

Our football coach had one assistant and both coached basketball and track while teaching history or math.

Teachers had a job as long as they performed. Bad teachers didn't last very long.

Chico ISD is not unlike other small schools. Board members and superintendents spend too much money on buildings and place too much emphasis on winning football games.

No longer can local school districts look to Austin for more money. It is time every district look at an energy policy, eliminating programs and cost savings. Now school boards will have to do their work. Spending is over and there will be no money to hand out for no-bid contracts.

At least you can let your kids swim in their underwear at Wise county park..Chico, Tx baby!!!!

Anonymous said...

Paradise and their Supt should be fired for starting what he started with Coach Neighbors......

Anonymous said...

What's going on in Decatur?

The same old thing. The Booster Boys rushed 1.1 million for athletic "extras" before the budget cutting has to start.

If the Supt is a leader and not a "good Old boy" he will start off his meeting Wednesday with teachers by announcing that he is "deferring" his 10k raise till better times! Now that would be leadership.

Don't count on it!! Also expect the vast majority of cuts to come from the academic program side. Athletics will be protected by the Booster Boys.

Central office probably could be cut in half and all the district would miss would be photos of CA staff "having fun" at conventions.

CHICO IS NOW A WINNER!!!! MUGS AND JUGS HAS MADE THAT TOWN GREAT

In my opinion, a school board member should not sale booze. It sends the wrong message to young people and is not a good example.

I am a fan of Marion and Melton! With age comes wisdom!!!! Alvord needs to be held accountable and informed by the young and old alike!

And as reported by a friend, the Alvord baseball team wins 9-2 with the new coach.

Operating a legitimate business is a bad example for our children? Just becasue you don't like "saleing" (or sailing or selling, which do you think it is?) alcohol does not mean it is not legitimate. Kudos to anyone willing to open legitimate business.

Big Ed

Anonymous said...

To 8:34 am In my opinion the school board member that is selling booze is setting a very good example. Its called get off your ass an make something of yourself, its called making a living for your family, its called supply and demand and taxes for the community that he grew up in. If you feel that he is setting a bad example then in my opinion you are small minded and only see the negative side of things. If he were getting drunk every night of the week on his merchandise instead of selling it or selling to minors then that would be a bad example.

It's all Coach Hart's fault. Oh wait they fired him last year so that they could hire the new AD that is leaving this year. Gotta love it :)

Anonymous said...

Answer is send the Mexicans to Canada!!

Since 1995 Bridgeport has gone from 80% White to 58% White. Mexican students have gone from 19% to 39%. Decatur has gone from 76% White to 68% White and Mexicans from 21% to 30%. Dallas has gone from 13% White to 5% White. Dallas has also lost Black population with the number of Black students going from 44% to 28%. The Dallas ISD Mexican students have gone from 42% to 67%. To think the Dallas ISD is having budget problems! These ethnic changes put tremendous downward pressure on real estate values. Schools drive real estate values.

In a high fenced situation in an area say even only - 500 to 800 acres you can get ALL the fair chase you want and stagger around in that area 'til your tongue hangs out and NEVER see a fence.

I live in Alvord, my children go to school here and I pay my fair share of the ISD taxes here too.. to drive by the practice field which sets directly in front of the elementary school and see 7 coaches and 25-35 football boys makes me boiling mad... you expect 1 teacher to control 22 students and it takes 7 grown men to handle a few boys... lets get back to what we go to school for EDUCATION, not sports... I like to watch our kids play sports, but at what expense? Never should a coach's base salary be more than a teacher, NEVER should they have less student/teacher or coach ratio than a teacher who is educating our youth. We have gotten away from the real reason we go to school... we have started to put more money and time in to electives rather than the basics of education!! In my opinion coaches are over rated and over paid!!

Anonymous said...

Alvord could save alot of money by going thru the campus's and doing away with USELESS employees... 1st the guidance counciler at the elementary school should go!! That is a good example of wasted tax payer dollars in my opinion!!

Anonymous said...

10:19....you are an idiot....they havent even used those fields yet. Those coaches are shared by bothe the boys and the girls. Get yoru facts staright

Anonymous said...

10:19
Coaches are also teachers. They get a small amount of money to coach our kids. I guarantee a coach puts in more hours a week then any teacher and only receive a small increase for this added duty.

Athletics brings money into the school!

What about the useless school nurses. A school secretary can take a temperature and call a parent to give tylenol. A school secretary can also check for head lice.

You can bring in an outside nurse once a year to check hearing and vision.

Anonymous said...

9:33 - Where in the world are you getting your information???

Anonymous said...

Wait a second - it was 10:11 - not 9:33 I wanted to know where they get there information. Sorry about that!

Anonymous said...

11:00 - Do you honesty think that is ALL a nurse does? What a freaking joke you are! So you would send a school secretary to secure a broken limb, handle a seizure, or disburse injectable medications? Can you say "LAW SUIT"? Yes, a school secretary can administer a tylenol, but they have to report that to the school nurse so that it can be recorded. That is why it is ILLEGAL for teachers to administer medications - to PREVENT over-doses....HAVE YOU NOT LEARNED ANYTHING! Evidently not! What a JOKE!

Anonymous said...

"I am a fan of Marion and Melton! With age comes wisdom!!!! Alvord needs to be held accountable and informed by the young and old alike!"
LMAO - With age comes wisdom.....That may be true for some, but I think you have to consider their intent. They are no longer in charge of what goes on in the school or in the community so they go around spreading lies about the people who threaten their egos. Both have done more harm to the unity of the community then they have good. They are now the town stooges - but no one takes the time to laugh anymore. (Except when someone calls them "wise.")

10:19 You are so sorely mistaken about a coaches job and salary. I teach and my husband is a coach. We have listened to this criticism all of our careers. My husband IS a teacher. He teaches five classes and the only way a coach's BASE salary is more than a teacher is if he has more year's experience than a teacher or if he is the athletic director which is an administrative position. He gets a "coaching bonus" of $4500 which doesn't begin to cover the time he spends doing his job. You are in Texas and sports here is big business. Football especially brings in revenue for the school. My husband works 7 days a week during football season, is at the school before most teachers wake up in the morning and comes home after practice when the average teacher has long vacated the premises. He drives a bus, he works in the summer for workouts and to prepare the facilities for the next year. Get over your uneducated ideas from your bad experiences and realize that athletics offers a place for some kids to be successful that would never shine in the regular classroom.

6:16, You are having difficulty reading the 10:11 post.

The teacher's standard was not an IQ of 80. He/she was pointing out that they must teach to a classroom of all intellectual levels. She is responsible for a special needs student learning the same information as the kids with a genius IQ. Her ponit was that it's not going to happen.

11:00 am - Nurses are useless??? I worked in an ISD in another county of Texas. My school had the nurse on MWF. Another school had her on TTh. It was horrible when she was not around. She knew each kid's medical history. She would go to Goodwill & find the correct prescriptions for kids whose parents could not afford a pair of glasses. At my school she was more like a nurse practitioner. The families were so poor that she was their only medical advice. She kept records of all vaccinations, gave treatment to 2 kids who had Cystic Fibrosis, protected the entire school from a kid who had AIDs (yes we were inner-city), taught the kids to brush, arranged for a dentist to visit & look at the worst mouths for free. She was a Florence Nightingale. You have no idea what goes on in that office.

Some school "nurses" are not even lvn's or rn's. So actually the office staff could do the same thing. The things the one poster said the nurse did sounded like things a PARENT should do, no the school.

"Athletics brings money into the school!"

Can't stop laughing at this!

If Athletics can pay for itself, why are my tax dollars being used?

Anonymous said...

7:03, you just hit the tip of the iceburg! There are MANY MANY things the school does that parents should be doing. Problem is, parents aren't doing them. Schools feed breakfast, lunch and probably in the next few years will serve dinners also. Schools instill discipline where parents do not and schools teach good habits and to many they teach good hygiene. Schools counsel, medicate, tutor, provide "protective services" to kids who come to school and need protection. People who are not in the school business really have no idea what all schools do now days. Schools are nothing like they were in the past!

Anonymous said...

the average parent spends two and a half quality minutes with their children each day.....what does a coach or a teacher spend.......I can tell you coaches spend at least 3 to 4 QUALITY hours with your kids......lay off the coaches and the teachers.....lay off the school boards...they are doing jobs that either you dont want to do or you cant handle.

Anonymous said...

the only reason the DISD broard wanted to get on the board was so they could get turf and thats the ONLY reason the guys on there ran. It's for the kid! we see just what was for the kids and it's not education it's sports and 20 coaches wanting a turf field and indoor work out field.

Still Blue&White @ heart.

Anonymous said...

9:11 Of course teachers and coaches spend more time with the kids. Kids are required to spend 7-8 hours per day in school. What kind of stupid post was that?

Also, please show us factual documentation about the parents only spending 1 to 2 quality minutes with their kids.
