Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • The Messenger blog is about what you would think, but there was actually a good post yesterday condemning the proposed lack of federal funding of Planned Parenthood -- and it's not for the reason you would think.
  • I can't tell you how many clients I have, once the case is over, who thank me but then tell me "I hope I never see you again."
  • Also, if I ever ask them how they are doing as we walk back to the office the first time, I routinely here hear, "Not to too good." Edit: Sheesh. I was half asleep.
  • I do 100% criminal defense.
  • Someone who works in my office told me it would be "Ok, to yell at" her sometimes. I don't yell. I don't even get angry.
  • I like looking at old pictures. I like visiting places of my youth. But when I hear "classic rock", it drains the life force out of me. (Think about The Steve Miller Band's Abracadabra and you'll be right there with me.)
  • I refuse to explain why I used zip ties to do minor body work on the Family Low Rider last Sunday, but Mrs. LL decided to crash into a curb again yesterday so I had to do it all over again last night. #dontkillher
  • I don't think I've ever seen as many links posted for a movie trailer than yesterday for The Hangover 2. And I haven't even watched it yet.
  • How can you possibly run a story about the principal of Decatur's Young Elementary resigning without telling us why
  • Another wrong way driver in Dallas last night led to a fatality.
  • Technology Fail: I've tried to post an item on Craig's List twice. It's not hard. It's simple. They send you a link to activate it which I've done. And then it never shows up in their listings. Am I the only one?
  • I bet you're going to demand a Pick Me Up after today's girl.
  • This guy sounds more like Axl Rose than Axl Rose does.

Your right. We want a Friday afternoon pick me up after this mornings pic.

Hmmm--"Blow Up Dolls" could be taken two ways! Obviously an intentional "double entendre"!

Anonymous said...

Did you find today's random girl at dirtyleg.com? I love Steve Miller Band!

Social Love, Interesting... Makes the brain think strange thoughts.

Anonymous said...

Classic rock is boring because those stations seem to play only the chart hits. Try "Play The Game" by Queen, "Sentimental Street" by Night Ranger or "It's Raining Again" by Supertramp for a couple of tunes you may not have heard in a while.

The Messenger is not reporting the news.......

The paper used to be great....

What happened?

Anonymous said...

Everyone needs to go the the Decatur ISD web site and complete the survey to suggest ways to reduce district expenditures.....

I thought the district had too much money back in January......

What is that all about???

Anonymous said...

Where are you getting these pictures???? Can you say, "S-K-A-N-K-Y"? Come on Barry, you can do so much better!

The Messenger Blog about Planned Parenthood was incomplete. When she said she could not afford healthcare, did she have a cell phone, car, auto insurance, etc... People place their priorities in the wrong order sometimes. Cable TV is more important than health care in most households and then they want me to pay for their federally funded health care.

Anonymous said...

That's SoCal Love, not Social Love.

Watching Maury may change your view on abortion...

I just read the WCM story about Pam Holland a "temporary" principal. With all the cuts the district talking about making, this is a perfect opportunity to do so. Leave Pam there and let that danged curriculum C=Scope fall by the wayside. I understand from some teachers that it costs $37,000 a year to subscribe and who knows how much in substitute pay for the teachers to be trained in how to teach.
Just let the teachers teach as they have been trained. That $37,000 would save a teacher job.

Cute on the Planned Parenthood thing. I would be very surprised if 10% of women who visit PP are not seeking an abortion and of those looking for counseling with an unplanned pregancy and not actively seeking the abortion it's a 100% chance they will be counselled to abort the baby.

I agree with 8:48. You gotta get deeper than the radio hits, there's a lot of great classic rock music hidden inside those albums (cd's/ mp3's). Try listening to Peter Frampton's "Breaking All The Rules" instead of "Show Me The Way" or Aerosmith's "Toys In The Attic" instead of "Dream On".
Greatness!

I don't yell at my employees either. But if they tell you you can slap them on the ass and pull their hair, that's when it starts to get fun.

Abracadabra is one of 3500 songs I have on my iPod, which connects to my car stereo through a media cable. Every time I start my iPod in the car, the stereo automatically starts playing all songs in alphabetical order. Know which song is first? You guessed it--Abracadabra. I heat up, I can't cool down...

Were gonna need 3 pick me ups to make up for that tramp. You could have at least photoshopped the cooties out from under her top.

8:47, it says SOCAL LOVE, as in Southern California. After seeing this gross chick I hope i never find myself in SOCAL.

Big deal about the Messenger blog.

Based on personal conversations I've had with them, most of the news reporters and editors over there are unabashed liberals anyway. Some veer so far to the left that there's no more room for them to move anymore. Their Facebook pages reflect this.

The Secret Police said...

I figured it out y'all!!! Rage is actually Bill Clinton in real life.
Good one Rage.

How can the Messenger not report the DISD's Supt telling his people in an district-wide assembly that he deserved his 10K raise and some would understand and some wouldn't?

This from the man who with his wife is scalping the district to the tune of 200K, and 10 to 20% of his listeners aren't going to have a job next year!!!!!!

What a jerk!!!!!

Of course the raise makes total sense when you consider it occured AFTER he gave the board the "green light" to spend 1.1 million on extras for athletics.

You pat my back, I'll pat yours.

Barry, is that you in the picture behind the SoCal Love girl?

I have no doubt that a newspaper reporter has to go without quality health insurance, given their insulting salaries (that they had to earn college degrees for). But that doesn't mean they have to go to Planned Parenthood. There are alternatives, like free health clinics, etc.

Anonymous said...

Brings that person in the Dallas wrong way driver wreck to Wise County. We want to give he/she the death penalty for murder!!!
Makes me sick!

Barry, please stay off the motorcycles!

The Messenger is just old news, ads and political letters to editor. I miss the old timers talking about the gardens.

Hey 9:21 - The Messenger didn't report it because they weren't invited to the STAFF meeting.

Love Classic Rock. I listen to 92.5 every day and they play great rock. What's wrong with Abracadabra, dude?

The messenger has gone WAY DOWN since the Eatons sold it. I used to enjoy it but now plan to let my subscription lapse. It's more like the National Enquirer or some other trash rag than a newspaper with the crap they consider human interest.

Pam Holland told teachers it was $37,000. She should know. She's in charge.

I'm sure many women benefit from services, such as contraception and STD testing, that PP provides. But let's face it, abortions (and taxpayer subsidies) keep their doors open. According to PP's own information, abortions are only 3% of "services" provided at their centers but account for more than half of the income. Ex-employees have said that they were pressured to advise women to have abortions because the organization makes more profit from them.

Without even arguing the pro-choice, pro-life thing, let's at least not mince words about what business they're in. Then we can decide if the government should subsidize such a business.

Anonymous said...

If thats SoCal love, I don't want none. Not now, not nevva...

Anonymous said...

why on earth would we not subsidize abortions to low-income, single women

Hobbes said...

9:02: Your attack on Planned Parent hood lacks not only in spelling, but any sort of cognitive point or documentation. Lets actually look at a breakdown of the services Planned Parenthood provided in 2008.

36% – Birth control services
31% – Testing and treatment for STD’s
17% – Cancer screening and Prevention
11% – Other woman’s health services (Pap’s, LEEP procedures, etc.)
3% – Abortion Services

Right now Planned Parenthood provides about 40% of women's services in low-income areas. It takes less than 100 dollars to provide someone with enough birth control for a year. Every birth that is covered by medicare cost state taxpayers over 12,000 dollars. Planned Parenthood actually saves taxpayers money.
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=133732232

The saddest thing about the proposed cuts to Planned Parenthood is that you have approximately 400 white guys who enjoy health insurance that covers Viagra but not birth control to make decisions about a women's health. Pathetic

I have used twisty ties and duck tape to hold up part of my car. (I don't consider myself a redneck)

It is blasphemy to put Abracadabra in the classic rock category!

wordkyly: Your terminology is clouding your point. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit, the same as the Red Cross. They are not in any sort of business, and don't rely on profits.

I went to the DISD website as 8:52 recommended and I want to second that. There are not only pertinent questions but a text box in which you can let them know your thoughts on how our tax dollars should be spent. Everyone needs to do this!

hey 10:30 - the invitation was to Faculty and Staff. It was as much of an open meeting as going to a staff meeting at the Water Department. It was voluntary because it was after the normal work day.

Why would you think it was an open meeting??

Here is a paradox for all of you anti planned parenthood pro life conservative racists on this site.

Blacks make up 13% of the U. S. population and they account for 36%
of the abortions.

Thank you Hobbes. Now I don't have to write a long response to the nincompoops (probably guys) who have never been single with two little kids making minimum wage without health insurance and being so grateful there was a Planned Parenthood.

wordkyle said...

Hobbes: Without the revenue from abortions, PP would have to cease operations. It is "profitable" in that sense. PP and the Red Cross are similar only in government accounting status. Any other comparison is ridiculous. The Red Cross's mission is humanitarian, to save lives. PP's mission is to eliminate them.

11:05, there are even some who contyend that America's falling crime rate in recent decades can ba attributed to the disproportionate number of minority abourtions.

And as a point of general reference, only idiots fix cars with duct tape and/or zip ties. Be a professional, and get yourself some bailing wire.

Rage

Rage, The only employees you have are your boobs.

Anonymous said...

Well said Hobbes!!! Most of you who" spout off" about Planned Parenthood have no idea about their services. Planned Parenthood is not "all about abortion". In the 80's when I was in college and did not have an extra dime to my name, I went to PP for annual exams and yes, birth control. I wish more women would not feel ashamed to walk through those doors and take responsibility for their health and birth control needs. It's a shame that so many of you judge without knowledge or experience.

No, Roy Eaton was a dyed in the wool liberal, who was also unabashed about his support of Obama and intense dislike of Republicans.

The problem with The Messenger is its tradition on sensationalizing horrendous automobile accidents.

Rage - you need to run spellcheck.

I have a question regarding wrong way driver fatalities/accidents out here on our two-way country service roads: happen a lot? I've seen two wrong-way'ers in the last month....while the two-way road can be convenient (by way of avoiding the whole freeway crossover bit), I've begun to wonder....thought maybe I was uneasy about them because I'm new to them, but am now wondering if they're just rather unsafe?

Anonymous said...

Texas service roads have always been relatively unsafe for that reason. It really freaks out the out-of-staters. As a general rule, if you see a wreck on one, it's an old person or a foreigner.

Just heard a statistic that 60% of all black pregnancies end in abortion. Who is more cruel to the minorities: Racist whites or blacks themselves? If whites killed 60% of anything, the world would be in an uproar. Conservatives think all abortions are wrong (except for life threatening pregnancies).[have to add that for the libtards]. Oh yeah, abortions are life threatening to the fetus.

Anonymous said...

Did the guy really tell the teachers that he deserved a $10,000 raise?

That can not be true.

No one would do that,

Actually, the majority of Americans, which includes a large number of conservatives, think abortion should remain legal.

Get your facts straight.

He didn't say that 2:58. I was there. He said there are those that understand it and there are those that disagree. He said that no matter what he said, he would not be able to change the minds of the ones that disagree. It may not of been phrased that exact way but I knew what he meant.

At least he addressed it instead of shoving it under the table.

Now how proud of the DISD school boards are you?? Please remember them at the next election. It's for the kids! only if they play sports. When you are out of work at least you can sit on them new bleachers and watch a track work out. or go to the old track and field house and watch pee-wee football since thats the only thing it's good for they say.

Get rid of some of them dang football coaches and keep a teacher..

Anonymous said...

Decatur will have openings on the school board
The guy who lives in Gainesville won't run

Anonymous said...

Rage,

Actually, in the last major poll I have seen, 51% said abortions should be illegal. Thirty something legal.

Anyone with a soul realizes why. That whole choice arguement just does not fly, since the baby does not get a choice. And no due process.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone thought that perhaps DISD might rescend their decision to spend 1 million on mostly athletics and sidewalks and save multiple positions that directly affect the instructional needs of the students! What a great way to show the teachers, staff, parents and kids what they truly value. Couldn't these extras wait a little while?

Anonymous said...

When we start calling an abortion a baby killing I'll be much more likely to support it.

I mean really, since the debate is based on lies and obfuscation, we do away with that and then we all come to an understanding based on truth- correct?

Anonymous said...

4:33 is dead on. I was at the DISD meeting, too, and that's exactly what he said.

Anonymous said...

Listen Teachers.....
If I can fire enough of you they will give me another raise of $10,000!

Anonymous said...

Moved my kid to private school out of DISD....thankful every day

Anonymous said...

Teacher Motivation is now effectively at an all time low in Decatur.

What you going to do about it?

Anonymous said...

7:29 - I am a teacher in DISD, and I disagree.

Years ago teacher morale at the high school was at an all-time low-- of course it started several years ago, and went downhill from there.

It's better now.

Just sayin...because I work there.

Anonymous said...

For the most part (because I know Pollyanna will refute this), the only teachers left at Decatur are the ones that have no choice. They have to work and/or they have kids in the district.

And because my kid goes to school in the Decatur district, I'm worried. The tension is palpable when I take my kid to school. You can see it on the teachers' faces and the weariness in their eyes when I pick her up at the end of the day.
