From The President's Commencement Speech At Michigan Yesterday

Still, if you’re somebody who only reads the editorial page of The New York Times, try glancing at the page of The Wall Street Journal once in a while. If you’re a fan of Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh, try reading a few columns on the Huffington Post website. It may make your blood boil; your mind may not be changed. But the practice of listening to opposing views is essential for effective citizenship. (Applause.) It is essential for our democracy. (Applause.) And so, too, is the practice of engaging in different experiences with different kinds of people. I look out at this class and I realize for four years at Michigan you have been exposed to diverse thinkers and scholars, professors and students. Don’t narrow that broad intellectual exposure just because you’re leaving here. Instead, seek to expand it. If you grew up in a big city, spend some time with somebody who grew up in a rural town. If you find yourself only hanging around with people of your own race or ethnicity or religion, include people in your circle who have different backgrounds and life experiences. You’ll learn what it’s like to walk in somebody else’s shoes, and in the process, you will help to make this democracy work. (Applause.)
Preach on, sir. Preach on.

"Preach on, sir. Preach on."

That's the problem with Obama. He preaches a lot but never practices what he preaches. I suppose one could say that about many left-leaners.

You are a sad little man.

He said many things in his speech. However, it is his actions as President that concern me more than his speech. After all, he is only a politician, not a prophet. Your selective editing and cheer-leading comment belie your own bias.

By the way, legally, we live in a constitutional republic, not a democracy.

Good speech writer, it certainly wasn't him.

Oh good grief, 8:54. The man spent half of the first year of his presidency meeting with Republicans and trying to make bi-partisanship work. How DARE you say he doesn't practice what he preaches. Look in a mirror.

Danny Boy said...

Why can't he practice what he preach's?

Forgot, he is a politician, my bad.

1046 - What does "bi-partishanship" mean to you? Obama, through Democrat Congressional leaders, excluded significant Republican contributions to any of the large ticket item legislations Democrats passed. Early on, Obama said "I won" in response to Republican suggestions on tax policy. Obama shielded himself with Rahm Emanuel, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, three of the most notoriously partisan Democrats in Washington. Obama's actions put the lie to his words. Not unusual, and no different from any other politician -- that's the point.

As I said here a few months ago, bipartisanship only becomes important to Democrats when they lose, or are in danger of losing, elections.

What trite bullcrap. Really, he's the leader of the free world? We're on the downhill slide folks. Our grandchildren will be serving tea to backwards nig Mulims or face getting their heads cut off or at least whipped in the streets.
Bet on it kids.

Politicians drive me nuts!

Some even stoop so low as to use the name of children in their advertisements without parent consent.

We need ethics and morality to return to the world of Politics!

Okay! Maybe they never had morals or ethics!

Keep the Dream!

He's worthless.

In the next paragraph he said if you have a high school diploma, chew with you mouth closed, and can at least listen to a viewpoint other than your own...go hang out in Wise county to narrow your viewpoint.

Anonymous said...

Nothing wrong with a narrow point of view if it pertains to the truth.

Anonymous said...

I have always believed the more they spend on their campaigns the less truthful they are.

Actually.....10:46

Obama spent his first year shoving socialistic health care down our throats against public opinion and against what this successful country was built upon.

He didn't care about bi-partisanship..... in fact he excluded republicans in an unethical manner.

Nice speech.... but not reality to the most extreme liberal presidents in our lifetime.

In the last paragraph of his speech he also advised everyone to:

"Bow to a Muslim every chance you get cause they're about to kick your pansy asses all the way to Mecca"

That didn't get reported a lot

Anonymous said...

He sure has big ears for a 1/2 nigger rag head muslim and he still can't hear what the people are sayin.. Don't forget the change next election if we have one.

Dave said...

Yes! This socialist/muslim/not American born president gets me so angry speaking about tuning into opposing viewpoints! I am outraged that he has the audacity to tell me what news I watch that is my fundamental liberty! I tell you whats next, this "president" is going to take our guns and murder our first born children!

Wow! Everyone is so nice and understanding around here.

I'll tell you what makes my blood boil - everytime Obama opens his mouth. He is smug and arrogant. He is nothing but a radical community organizer who had NO experience to run a convenience store, not to mention the most powerful nation in the world. Wonder how the radical lame stream media will rewrite history on the present obamanation.

Anonymous said...

And does anyone actually think he wrote it and meant anything he said?

Anonymous said...

Our country is divided because of basic differences in values. Spending time with someone who doesn't share the same values is a waste of time, because the left is not going to become more moderate, only more radical. We need to go back to the values and Republic that made our country about laws and not about power. Obama and the left is only about power!

Yes we do believe he meant what he said. There are many of us around these parts that actually feel better than we have in years - having a smart, thinking, composed president. We like him a lot. It's unbelievable how biased you guys are - there is nothing he could say that wouldn't make your blood boil - nothing! Because if you did agree with him, you would just say he didn't mean what he said.

I mean, I can remember occasionally liking what Pres. Bush said in a speech.

Still, it is somewhat shocking that someone can read these words and come up with the comments on this posts. You guys have HUGE blinders on.

I usually don't post here because the comments are so acrid, but I do appreciate the ones that do and represent the ones of us who just don't want to take the time to respond to.......whatever you call these comments; I can't think of adequate words.

Thank you, Mr. President, for your lovely graduation speech. I enjoyed reading it very much. I also enjoyed the humor at the Press Corp dinner.
Some of us, way down here in Wise Co, Texas, wish you well, wish you the best. We are thankful that you are our President.

OK 8:54, 10:51, Turdpyle, and all the others:

So what does he tease us with this morning to get us to listen today? THE GOV'T. DID NOT INTERVENE TO THE GULF OIL SPILL IN A TIMELY MANOR!!!!

The rRepublican party has officilly become the GOB: The GRAND OL' BITCHERS!!! You care what it is about, you hve become the party of bitch and moan and NO!!!! You bitch when Obama tries to help, you bitch when he doesn't help, you just want to bitch! And you come off looking like a bunch of spoiled little children. That's why I no longer vote with one mark for Repiublicans. Somewhere, someone has got to say ENOUOGH, let's find common ground and SOLVE THE BLEEPNG PROBLEM!!!!

757 - So what is it that you're trying to say?

Anonymous said...

Screw him..

Goober:

"....DID NOT INTERVENE TO THE GULF OIL SPILL IN A TIMELY MANOR!!!! ..."

Do you mean manner? Gee whiz!

Besides, the conservatives in the GOP and elsewhere aren't B!tching, they are trying to work things out through non-violent means. Unlike the liberal dem instigators and agitators.

Also, I agree with Mark Davis this time; the Fed Gov did not respond in a timely manner.

P.s. The only baby B!tching sounds like YOU!

I'm sure all you liberals are proud to be on the same team as 7:57, Barry Green and Barack Obama: The Retarded Triumvirate.

Anonymous said...

7:57 PLEASE PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE. Mmmmmm.... I think I remember this about the Democrats and Liberals when George Bush, Jr. was president.

"You bitch when Bush tries to help, you bitch when he doesn't help, you just want to bitch! And you come off looking like a bunch of spoiled little children.

Thank YOU so much for reminding me.

Funny how SOME PEOPLE fail to look in the mirror. I just don't get that ignorance.

Quick civics lesson folks... We do NOT live in a Democracy! True democracy is mob rule and was abhorred by the founding fathers.

We live in a constitutional republic.

Also, if Obama is so interested in listening to other views, then why wasn't Health Care reform Bi-Partisan? Frequently, Democrats idea of cooperation means agreeing with what they say.

King Obammy is far from a preacher, much less a religious person! sheesh
