Trench Coat Mafia? Naaaaa

Read more. Denny Crane was on this story yesterday, but I'm not sure it is much of a story. I can't tell if the "threats" were made last February or if they were referring to potential actions for February, 2010. Somebody read that story and figure it out. There's a huge difference between an "I'll kill you" said in anger (my third ex-wife used to say that whenever I would get handsy) and a Columbine Looney Toons Crazy Kid. But schools and cops freak out whenever they hear about stuff like this.

They should investigate it. It's there job to serve and protect. If they don't take the proper steps then someone could really get hurt or killed. I wouldn't say they are freaking out.

Schools can't win on this one. Columbine has changed everything for the worse. It is probably nothing more than verbage, but Lord on the other side of a killing, think of the mess.

Anonymous said...

The four probably did something to deserve it. The lesson from Columbine is to quit bullying and bothering others. Poor kid.

Anonymous said...

Oh my gosh -- what are these kids thinking? I guess that is it they are not thinking......

Anonymous said...

Schools freak out about a joint or a hit of X. They have lost their ability to use common sense when dealing with young adults.

Anonymous said...

And...what's going to happen to the looser bullies who drove this kid over the edge?

Anonymous said...

It doesn't say when the threats were made, but it says the suspect admitted to making threats about killing several students and placing bombs in the school sometime in February 2010.

Anonymous said...

You guys might want to revisit what they found out about the kids at Columbine. It didn't have much of anything to do about bullying, they were just some mean/bad kids who wanted to hurt some folks. There are a couple of books out about it.

Anonymous said...

Its about damn time they reported on this. I am sure the school has had a million calls about it. I know that if my child was at school there they wouldnt be going back until I had some answers. The school at the very least should have sent a note home to parents.

Don't we need to put these bullies in their graves..errrr I mean places?

Double fake don't push me around or I'll kill ya.

We had a kid that was expelled from Boyd isd for the same thing. He enrolled into bport isd and finished school. Glad it was not the same kid. He was bullied and had processed the mass killing of 10 students at Boyd. They let him in and he graduated school. Let the admin know if you are bullied and do not take the law into your own hands!!!

Anonymous said...

The school should take action against the "bullies" too!!

Anonymous said...

Too bad the gunman wasn't going after Denny Crane. F'ing tool...

...and the bullies walk away scot free.

Anonymous said...

umm, kids in school are not young adults, the two boys who were in charge of the Columbine shootings were bullied, that is why they targeted the "jocks".

Anonymous said...

"But schools and cops freak out whenever they hear about stuff like this."

That is because the asswipes in your profession hit the courts when something bad happens and the school/cops didn't freak out about it. Thanks again Barry's profession.

Anonymous said...

There's also a huge difference between saying "I'll kill you" in anger and planning specifically how to do it, right down to where and when you plan to place the bombs and who you want to take out personally.

Or at least that's what I heard. Rumor mill in a small town and all that.

Lord///What a bunch of nerds on this blog tonight. Poor babies sound they they've been picked on. Who hasn't! Deal with it and moved on Poindexters

It has come to my attention that the mother of a student at BHS went to the Bridgeport Police Department today and they supposedly told her that my blog made more of the story than what it turned out to be. In actuality, I was told the story by a student at BHS. The following day, a different student told the same story...

I reported the story as a rumor asking for someone to confirm it. I don't think I was out of line in asking questions. Lord help us if we question the actions of the school's administration or the police. Obviously, parents are on a need to know basis; death threats must not be important enough for us to need to know.

5:11--as a school employee (in another district) I can tell you that the LAW (school law) says that if a student is expelled or placed in alternative ed in one school, it follows them to the other school. It can certainly be reviewed, but what district in their right mind wouldn't uphold a punishment like this! You talk about opening the flood gates! My guess is that one of two things happened here: Boyd ISD failed to alert B'Port, or B'Port CHOSE to ignore. Info certainly should have been shared with the transfer of school records!!!! You can nearly bet money that word was out what had happened since both of these schools are in the same county (and it's THIS county!) Hmmmmm......B'port administration at it's best, again? (Insert icon dripping with scarcasm here!)

Anonymous said...

I speak from personal experience: pulled my child out of B'Port ISD due to bullying (thank God I had an option of schools!)----had an administrator apologize to us for having to do it! Then pull your head out of your ass and do something! This is absolutely NOT surprising to me! Problem in B'Port: some of the parents are as bad as the children! Where do you think the kids learn the elitist attitudes???

Anonymous said...

Bport at it FINEST. OMG
1. Girl dies running cross country
2. Teacher has relations with student
3. Kid plans to set off bombs

who IS in charge of PROTECTING these kiddos??? The last two the school has tried to sweep under the rug!! Everthing is happening at the high school-- who's running the show over there???

Anonymous said...

That is a old joke 4:53, you need to work on some new material.

Anonymous said...

5:11: As a school employee of another district, you can keep your 'dripping sarcasm' to yourself. You have no idea the true story of this kid from Boyd who allegedly had processed the mass killing of 10 students. Is that even believable? Do you not think that would have made the news? The Blog? The local grapevine at least? But wow, you sure took that opportunity to jump all over Bridgeport without knowing any details aside from something you read in a comment. If you really are a school employee, why don't you tell us where you work?

12:07 a.m.: Perhpas you should re-read my post! I believe I stated that it was my "guess". Simply stated how ANY school should review a transfer student with disciplinary action taken by another school. The law doesn't only apply to B'Port and Boyd! Also stated that it surely has been talked about in Wise County. Perahps your defensiveness is an answer to some questions of what's going on in B'Port NOW!

Bridgeport High School made the students attend an assembly that presented actual footage of the Columbine shootings. Everything went crazy after that. They would not allow the President's speech to be broadcast live to the students, but they allowed this. Shame on Bport High for making idiotic decisions! Parents were informed of the assembly BUT WERE NOT INFORMED that there would be actual footage and sensationalism.

How is anything like this NOT different than the morons that bring guns to town hall meetings? Kids must learn allot from the adult idiots that carry signs saying things like “we are not armed this time”. He was probably just imitating what he has learned from the “tea baggers”.

“If someone is bulling you or doing something you don’t like grab you a gun and change there mind.” Dbl fake: Tea Bagger

Anon 8:47AM -- What they showed to the kids is Rachel's Challenge and the true meaning behind the presentation is saying kind words and the chain reaction it will start. Yes they showed footage in the presentation from that day but it is all footage that was shown on the news. AND YES they were told prior to the presentation that some of the footage is graphic. Once again the true meaning is Rachel's Challenage and I recommend you look it up on the internet.

You people are crazy! When I went to high school in late 70's, the pickups in the parking lot had guns in the gunracks on the back. It was NO big deal. It isn't the guns that hurt people...It is that people's hearts have changed. There was bullying in school and when Bully's mama found out she would kick the bully's ass and tell him to pick on someone his own size. The victims parents would put them in self defense classes and teach them how to fight back. There was right and wrong. Now we have zero tolerance but no common sense. We are so busy defending our own kids whether they are right or wrong that we create a sense of entitlement in them. Our kids do not have the same judgement of right & wrong that our grandparents did because we are screwing them up with all of this self esteem and political correctness B.S. The bible isn't politically correct and what it says isn't either. Our self worth comes from the fact that we are children of God. We should feel good when we do something nice or accomplish something we have worked for.,,,period It's called a work ethic. Our children are not learning this but yet expect to feel good and be happy...won't happen...no wonder they turn to everything under the sun like alcohol, drugs, sex and want to tear down and bully others to feel better about themselves. Luckily the solution is simple. Give it back to God.

I am so glad I got my kid out of this school district when I did....and now they want to pass a bond for what? Any of it involve athletic facilities to breed more bullying athletes?...Channel 8 news should just put a hub in Bport just for the insanity that involves that f-in facility they call a school.

9:36, thank you for your recommendation but I already know about Rachel's Challenge and the message the presentation was intending to send. BUT when presenting to children, careful consideration should have been taken on what is appropriate and what is not. Sensationalizing the Columbine event (as the news did) is clearly not appropriate for children. This distracts from the intended message and can have a dramatic psychological effect on children.

When my daughter was a freshman at BISD just a few months after we moved here (to be in a good school district - yeah right), she had a knife pulled on her and the kid said to his buddies standing beside, "I would like to kill her". She stood scared not saying a word. Another girl who witnessed this told her she should tell the teacher so she went with her to tell the teacher. Teacher goes to the Vice Principal. What does the Vice Principal do? Sends an office aid to pull her out of class as she passes the 4 other boys involved. He puts her in the same room with the boy with the knife as well as his buddies and says to my daughter, "are you SURE he said he would like to kill you - are you SURE that is what he said?" The kid pulls the knife out of his boot to show him the knife. Everybody left the office - no harm no foul. Found out a day or two later the same kid actually put a knife to another girl's neck and told her it was a good thing she didn't flinch or she would be dead. Her father went to the Vice Principal and saw his record had 27 prior offenses yet no action had ever been taken. My daughter's incident was after this. When the kid's parent was called in about the knife, he said, "knife? What knife" The school didn't keep the eapon as proof so there wasn't a thing they could do about it. ALSO, I was told by the Vice Principal when he initially called me to tell me there had been an incident at school with my daughter, he said it was no big deal he could give me the dad's phone number and we could talk it out. Excuse me????? That's when we went to the principal (which did no good) Just a few weeks later, Columbine happened. Welcome to Bridgeport!!!

As a parent of a BHS student, I hope that the police do more than read Denney Crane's blog or blame his blog for letting us know too much information. How else are we suppose to find this out. They have told me more will follow after the investigation is complete. How long will that take???? They should contact all parents and even hold meetings, let us know what is going on and the kids so they won't be spreading rumors that aren't held to be true. My child was in a class with this boy and believe me I will not rest until I hear the threat is gone. Rachel's Challenge was rescheduled due to the onset of a tragedy that we have recently been exposed to, Leslie's death. But it was after the High School showed The program that it appears he was turned in by one of his friends so maybey in the end Rachel had a helping hand in preventing one more terrible thing happening in Bridgeport. That's right all you non Bridgeport people, by all means beat Bridgeport when we are down!!! I do know one thing that might grab the school's and officers attention, pull your children out in Febuary 2010 the whole month...

Sorry that I was not clear in my first post. The student was expelled for a year. Then entered bport and finished school there.

Pretty much all schools are the same - they are REactive instead of PROactive. They DO brush things under the rug and keep things quiet to protect their own school instead of what is in the best interest of ALL children. They ALSO ping pong kids in and out of school districts in the county like crazy. I worked in the office of one of these districts and saw first hand how kids bounce in and out like crazy. There should be laws or policiies in place to prevent this from happening. Someone gets mad, checks out, and moves on, then moves back and forth. That is NOT conducive to a good education. Parents are the ones in most of theses cases who are to blame. Not all the time - but 98% of the time.

Regarding many of the posts above....If it sounds outrageous, there is probably alot of embellishment. It's funny that my kids plus numerous neices and nephews went through school in Bridgeport and not one of them experienced any of the things outlined above. All went on to college and did well so apparently Bridgeport has done some things right.

We watched the Rachel's Challenge 2 years ago in Decatur. It is a good program:)

All who want to blame the school for bad kids... please do so. Then pull your head out of your behind and point the finger at the real problem, parents who do zero parenting.

Does BISD screw up? Absolutely. Does it get better more than worse? For the most part.

If you don't like it, move on, (or better yet), HOME SCHOOL. *snickers*

PS - I do agree with those who say that giving out laptops to each of these students is the perfect $7MM answer. *sigh* Please vote no BISD wasting more of YOUR tax dollars.

3:35----You have me laughing out loud! Way to go!

and 2:42--these kids who go back and forth----it's the kids who get hurt in the long run. Instead of parents holding kids accountable and making them do what is right, let's just move on? I see so many high school kids get messed up as far as graduating on time when they move around alot. Parents forget to look into credits at the high school level and the kids get screwed!

Anonymous said...

The parents sometimes have nothing to do with the choices our children make. You can be the best parent in the world and still have a kid who still makes a bad choice. There are consequences for their actions. Sometimes that person is trying to prove a point and they choose the wrong approach. This does not make him a bad person, he just made a bad choice.

Bridgeport High probably has the best principal they've had in about 15 years. I've watched, I've known them all, and I've worked for a couple of them. Give her a chance; she's doing a great job, yet unfortunately, the things that have happened this year are sad and unpredictable, yet not uncommon among any school district.

10:29 I don't believe you -did you call any news station - I see parents all the time contact news to do a story on their precious child that was done wrong in school - did you?

Will the bond issue in Bridgeport add a jail to the ACE Campus or hire a SWAT TEAM to keep peace at the high school?

Anonymous said...

4:27--yes, as parents we all pray that our parenting "pays off" each time our children walk out the door. I agree with you completely---problem is not all parents actually PARENT! I know that most parents do the best they can with the skills they have (and the skills certainly vary from house to house!!!! As does moral standard). Main thing is--be INVOLVED! Ask: where, who, when.......You can be a friend later. Kids need boundaries, structure and, yes, RULES!
Some of the parents I see need to move on with their own lives! You are not 16 yourself anymore! You are out of high school! Let your kids be the kids!

I think Jeff Foxworth said it best (and I'm paraphrasing here): He said he'd love to see some screwed up person go on Oprah and, intead of blaming his parents for his mistakes and crappy, screwed up life, he would say "You know, I had great parents. I'm just a loser!"

Wisenurse - you probably want to get YOUR facts straight before you accuse someone of not telling the truth. This is 10:29 and I'll be happy to name names but a blog is not an appropriate place to do this. Obviously, the school year was 1998-1999 when my daughter was a freshman, so that will narrow that down. I guess since I have class, you may not understand that not everyone would be contacting the media when something like this happens. By the way, the other girl who had the knife pulled at her neck - her parents didn't contact the media either. Not everyone has that need for attention. There were NUMEROUS problems that occured when my two kids were in BHS from 1998-2004. If you think my kids may have been the problem? - guess again. This same daughter was salutatorian at BHS and both my kids were very good students involved in school and church activities. Sometimes ignorance is not bliss - it's just ignorance.

10:29...with the information you furnished, it is not hard to figure out who you are. It's amazing your kids turned out as well as they did with you doing your best to cause turmoil everywhere you go and whining about each perceived slight.
