Where Those Rock Trucks Go

There was news of a couple of injuries in a Wise County rock quarry yesterday which prompted faithful reader Tony to send in this pic of, uh, a Wise County Rock Quarry. I bet our landscape looks like a mess from the air.

where is that?

As big as the rock biz is in WC, it's a wonder accidents at quarries don't occur with the same frequency of motorcycle crashes

If I knew the address I would like to look it up on Google Maps.

And they'll leave those open pits when all the limestone is gone to fill with water and become giant cess pools.

Just like the rest of the county.

WHAT A MESS

Hey, 7:54 sometimes those cess pools yield some pretty darn good fishing.

What are you talking about Cess pools? Quarrys have the most beautiful and clear water. They even teach scuba diving in the one by Allison. If you don't know what you are talking about you might want to not comment...I'm just saying....

You can see them on Google Earth a LONG way out.

These Quarry have made me a good living for a long time. They are the backbone of the Chico and Bridgeport area.

I've heard that Hanson Corporation plans to develop these quarries someday into high end custom home developments with waterfront..don't forget that they own 1000's of acres around these quarries, and yes the water in these are clean and pristine. btw these are mostly located near Chico/Bitchport...

Yes, they are important to our economy, but they are hauling Wise County to Dallas one load at a time. The folks from the metromess are moving out here to live on our dirt and rocks, but we're shipping our rocks to the metromess. Makes no sense to me....

obama will shut them down!!

"High end" home developments in Chico.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

My husband was a dozier operator for Hanson for many years, he cleaned off those high rock walls before and after the dynamite shots. I have heard all about them, but this is the first picture I have ever seen.

HAHAHA MY ASS....just hide and watch in about 10 years this shall come to pass... this is in their long range plan for these giant pits that will someday fill with water. without all the dust Chico is really a very nice area and we do have a SUBWAY..!!

Without rock crushers you will be driving on dirt roads. If you don't like it go back to Oklahoma. Rock crushers have been around for years (100) and provide jobs. Probably more than any other businesses in this backwards county. Where do you think rock comes from?

10:58, rock comes from Newark...mostly in a plastic baggy.

There will be a day (probably not in out generation) that u can drive into Chico on 101 or 1810 and the highways will be elavated on both sides for at least 400 ft. U can look down at the quarries as u drive. Being a Chico native I always thought about the use for all vacant quarries.
If there could be large water pumping system established that would pump all the natural spring water to a lake created by damming Sandy Creek, Wise County could have its own water source & leave the empire dictatorship of Tarrant Co. Water Distict. Buy the Sandy Watershed for the county to use a natural lake, I never understood how they control Amon G. Carter, Bowie, Jacksboro (Antelop) watershed.
After the water system is filling the "Big Sandy Lake" we could establish the biggest landfill project ever seen in the U.S. The Wise County forefathers would make a mint from metro trash charges and taxes.
That would mean more trucks, accidents, officers and jobs left when the 100 year purchase of rock reserves are depleted.
Think about it everybody wins.....We get a lake, jobs and taxes placed on the metroplex.

This is a picture of Martin Marietta's Chico Quarry. South end looking North. The Hanson Quarry is the white stockpiles you see in the distance. I'm just sayin'.....

I could really dig rock hunting out there. I think it's beautiful. Totally creepy, but beautiful just the same.

12:16 .Right company wrong direction. It's looking from west to east. Many of theese pits have been filled with waste or there would be a huge group of holes out there. They don't make that much spring water either.A six inch pump will keep most of them dry except when it rains.
