War on Mosquitos

Free of mosquitos? We might want to lower those goals by just a tad. (My spellchecker says "mosquitoes" by the way.)

Mowing's great - I'm in favor. Now if we can just work on cars - (both running and non)parked all over yards, trash and other misc junk all over same and other incidental eyesores, we could make great strides on the pretty part.

And citizens, while you're at it, paint your house, in a color approved by the mayor, of course. Oh, some plantation shutters would be FABulous! ;)

(that smiley face indicates that I'm kidding.)

Cutting grass and weeds will not make a difference. That's not where mosquitoes procreate.

To bgirl...
I actually LIKE houses painted dusty flamingo pink, faded turquoise and sun washed orange in....BERMUDA near the azure water of the sea. However, the use of those colours as exterior paint in Decatur SHOULD be outlawed.

That so-called mayor is just making up reasons to support his pet projects. Mosquitoes breed in standing water, not tall grass. Why doesn't he address the dismal Decatur streets. We should show him code enforcement at the next election.

9:56 Ditto on that! And, could we get some health inspections in some of the restaurants in Decatur in which I NEVER eat anyway because they are so filthy-nasty.

Ahh, Joe Lambert, back to harassing widows and old people, I see.

Sheehan, Haven't you left Wise County yet?

In favor of Mr. Mayor, I contacted him regarding a permanently parked-in-the-street non-running vehicle in our neighborhood and within a few days it was being towed off.

And speaking of trash, nothing irks me more than seeing someone throw a cigarette out the car window.

Lets go to being "Decatur Mayor 101". Decatur has ordinances for tall grass and junked cars.
1. COD ordinance 10-27 states, The grass can not be taller than "12 inches (one foot), NO MATTER how many mesquitos are breeding in the yard.
2. Sec. 10-89 retains to junk vehicle and other nuissances. We will attempt to educate on that one later when he sees a junked car with weeds taller that "12 inches" surrounding it.

FIX THE ROADS!!! I swear Decatur has the WORST roads in the state! Nice town, but the roads are horrendous! Walnut street (WEST) up the hill to 287 is ridiculous! FIX THE DANG ROADS!

2:13---- Nothing irks me more than seeing a woman driving a 5000 lb. suv, talking on a cell phone, AND with a yip-yap weenie dog in her lap. If she doesn't succeed in killing me directly, the excess toxins spewed by large, inefficient, unnecessary vehicles will contribute to melting the polar ice caps, inundating coastal plains, and causing widespread human suffering for HUNDREDS OR EVEN THOUSANDS of years hence. Oh, but since you all feel SAFER in gianormous urban assault vehicles, just get over your fear of the dreaded .7 gram cotton balls relentlessly attacking your way of life.

I think The Mayor wanted trees at the new High School? They have just replaced about a dozen dead ones with new!
Also, there is a portrait of an eagle in process on the field house (don't know if that is a pet project?)

In defense of the mayor and mosquito control--maybe mosquitos procreate in stagnant water, but they must like "hanging out" in tall grass. During this mowing season, I was mowing one evening. Everything was okay while was mowing my usual areas, but when I started mowing some really high grass in a new area--THAT'S when the mosquitos went WILD!! Obviously they like to stay in areas of high grass--hence the need to get high grass and weeds mowed as PART of mosquito control.
