Oh, My

Rest of story. Yep. 40 and 16.

The guy also served as the girl's cross-country coach and here's a story from last fall (with her picture) where she talks about how encouraging he is.

Update again: Here is his picture. Another one of her.

Update again: Small pic of both of them together.

Don't her parents have to give permission? WTF were they thinking?

OK, serious question(s). In our society, how come it's OK for a 40 year old man to have intimate relations with a 16 year old so long as they have a piece of paper saying it's OK...but without that piece of paper this guy is in jail for a long, long time? Could he still be thrown in jail if it comes out that they had been intimate before getting married? If not, why not? With knowledge of her situation, would her doctor be required to notify authorities if there is evidence to that effect and the doctor knew it would have been this 40 year old guy?

Because once they are married, the law no longer considers her a "child".

i think we just found the dumbest parents in america - one day they are talking to the sheriffs and filing for a restraining order, and then the next day they sign a consent to marriage "because they didnt know what else to do"

you gotta be kiddin' me

This story is ridiculous! Talk about some great parenting....my daughter and her coach have a thing going on and since no one else is going to stop it, I'll give her permission to marry him, but complain that this was my only choice. Whatever! Great parents.

What I cannot figure out is HOW the parents were coerced into "reluctantly" signing a consent form allowing their 16 years old daughter to marry a man who has the ethics of a fox guarding a chicken coop and is old enough to be HER father.

In light of ALL of the pedophilic teachers being featured in the media and the VAST numbers of those NOT mentioned there is no doubt the teaching profession, just like the Catholic priest profession needs to implement TOUGHER standards for their CURRENT and FUTURE members members.

Just a thought, if teachers were paid MORE and there were HIGHER standards, FEWER ex-coaches hired as administrators and NO B.S. politics, PERHAPS then the teaching profession would be BETTER represented.

It's a good thing Barry doesn't coach high school athletes. Could lead to wife #9, 10 and 11.

RE: mzchief comments - get off the Catholic bashing - there have been ministers/youth ministers in other denominations as well convicted of inappropriate behavior.
