They do the strangest things in Rhome. A former Rhome cop investigates the current chief and makes a recommendation to the council. The council fires the police chief. The council then considers hiring the former cop that conducted the investigation as the new part rime police chief.

This is so unethical.
Checks and balances have never been their strongest suit. What the hell IS Rhome's strongest suit?
What's so wrong about an employee bringing issues to light? And discovering there were issues that needed to be addressed, and the employee then being considered as an improvement over the past situation. Guess people in Wise County are ticked off at Rhome because Rhome is tired of scraping bodies and vehicles out of its ditches, so they are now more actively enforcing laws. That, by the way, everyone is told about and knows in advance before deciding to break them. Give some credit to Rhome. Maybe it's YOUR family member or friend or even yourself who will be alive next Christmas because someone that finally got tired of getting tickets decided to slow down from 80 to 60 and therefore had enough time to brake and avoid hitting and killing someone you love. Trouble is, Rhome will never be able to hold that up as a success of their enforcement, because accidents that don't happen aren't ever seen, and Mayor Mark can't prove that he's saving lives. But he probably is.
Dontcha just love politics? And what gets me...I'd be too prideful to take a job in light of the controversy, supposition & suspicion...guess this guy doesn't care. Right, wrong or indifferent...
Instead of speeding enforcement cameras, does anybody make an ethics enforcement camera?
The Rhome police need new faces and a clean slate. Obviously, City Hall doesn't want anybody new.
It reminds me of the story about the guy who got caught sleeping with one of his cousins.
The police asked him, "Don't you know that she's your cousin?"
He said, "Well, if you can't trust your own family, who can you trust?"
I do not see how contracting out ticket writing via a van by Nestor is "saving lives" anon 10:07. Half of these speeders have no idea they are getting a ticket and it has been proven that many of these cameras increase accidents. If you want enforcement , use Rhome 's fine police men and women to enforce safety , not some fly by night company who was recently kicked off the NASDAQ and downgraded to its less popular rating on that market because their stock cannot seem to get up over 2 dollars a share. What is next, outsourcing the officers jobs to China? This is about money, not safety. Just look at all the east coast cities that get red light cameras, then have their respective city government cut the number of seconds on the yellow signal down so they can gain more revenue. We live in a Big Brother society who has traded Freedom for Security.
The problem with Rhome is that they are just too close to Newark. Corruption is bred into them. They can't help it.
flat ass crooked. i dont know anything about any of them but from a distance it looks flat ass crooked. if i were the former cheif i would be licking my chops.
Those who would trade Freedom for temporary security deserve neither and shall lose both.
Ben Franklin was a wise man.
Men, women, their talents, and good deeds make a safe and happy community, not speed cameras.
Good part is that rome starts back on HBO Sunday!!!!!!!Yeaa
I agree 10:44! What good is security if we have to give up freedom! I want myself and my loved ones to enjoy life with freedom, even if I have to give up a little security, or if I have to worry a little more each time I drive down the road!
These traffic enforcement cameras do nothing to improve safety! They cannot stop a drunk who is out of his mind, or a guy who has had a bad day and is driving 80 through Rhome! It is all about the money!!!
Hey Anon 11:12 AM, Bad news is the Sopranos will be dropped due to falling ratings now that the Rhome city council is whacking more people than Tony and Big Pussy ever imagined! I mean just the other day, I found the class ring of a recently fired city employee in a can of Spam I bought at the Time Out convenience store!
What’s up with the former mayor and her 21 year old kid? It’s amazing that after one meeting, she shows up with mommy and gets a nomination to be on the council from Patty Robison. Who do you think will be pulling her strings?
Who cares, as long as it is a new puppeteer. The show needs new material.
Here is a few web sites you'll get a kick out of.

Looks like Rhome, Texas is becoming socialist Europe.
Even Better......

LOL...
Hey..Who Cares 11:52
I bet you'll vote for Hillary Clinton too. Idiot
I am just glad I live in world where Rhome people can talk smack to Newark people on Al Gore's internets and interweb.
whats so special about being alive at christmas?
props to 10:44 and boo! to 10:07 for your rather naive assessment of this situation.
The way I understand it, the former police chief was fired, not because he chose not to "actively enforc[e] laws", but because he chose to enforce laws he saw as more important. That is, he refused to expend the city's enforcement resources on catching speeders at the cost of investigating and thwarting other crimes (e.g., burglaries, robberies, assaults, etc).
And you seem to be stuck back in the early 1980s with your idea of what the proper speed on a highway like 287 is. During that time period and for the years following, the 55mph speed limit was implemented, mostly for the purpose of saving energy resources rather than safety. Of course, safety was also touted as one of the benefits.
However, since that time, vehicles have gotten FAR more safe in terms of improvements to their braking and steering mechanisms, as well as the obvious advances in airbags, restraint systems, and structural durability. For these reasons, it is safer to drive modern vehicles at higher speeds.
Highway 287 is a 4 line divided highway, with wide shoulders. If you drive a modern car, especially a high performance vehicle (like mine!), and if you are a driver who actually pays attention to your driving (rather than yapping into your cell phone or leaning into the backseat to slap your kids around), I think speeds in the range of 80-90 mph are perfectly safe on this type of road.
In the case of Rhome, speeding enforcement is primarily used as a revenue stream, not for public safety.
hhl/1:06PM - I pretty much agree with your way of thinking, but that one big curve in Rhome really creeps me out. Maybe the DOT should just plow a straight-away thru there, maybe coming out at Jeterville. Could they take out the whole town in the process, too? Maybe that would solve a lot of problems. And while the DOT is at it, I think they should do a flyover ramp or bypass thru the whole city limits of Decatur. The whole mess is some dangerous driving shiate for the passers-through who are not familiar with the roadways.
Whats the difference if you get a ticket from a camera or from the officer. If you are speeding and get caught you should get a ticket. And as far as safty goes, every time an officer gets out of his/her car for a traffic stop they are putting themselves in danger. If tickets can be done without them having to stop on a major highway then they improving the saftey of the officer and the speeder. Just look what happend a few weeks back in Fort Worth. Think about that for a minute.
You know who would be pulling that girls strings. Patty would have a buddy to vote with her on every issue that she opposes.
Patty is the ONLY one on the rhome city council with ethics! She does not get direction from the city secretary or calls from the former (thank god) mayor pro tem, she votes for what she believes is best for the city. It isnt about traffic flow or accidents,as the mayor would like for you to belive, it is about money. The Texas Highway Patrol has twenty troopers in this county, rhome has five officers. You would think that it would be smart to let the highway Patrol do their job and the rhome police could do theirs ( protecting property, citizens, etc) but that would not allow the cash to keep flowing into the pockets of the city. If you speed, get a ticket, o.k. , but if you give 90 "warnings" in a single day for 8 miles over, that is a shake down. I wonder how many accidents occured in rhome that day? would it not be better to have a marked car on the highway then a hidden van with a camera if you really wanted to change traffic patterns?
10:07 a/m are you on crack? the guy that they are offering the job to is not much more then a security guard! he has never been a full time cop and his real job is working for daddy. the only reason he is being considered for the job is because he and mayor mark are best buddies, go on vacations together and everything. he tried to get the chiefs job in newark and they ran him off!
10:07AM, as evidenced by my pregnant wife's treatment after her wreck (single vehicle) Rhome doesn't like it when the perpetrator lives, either. The armed revenue collectors were obviously perturbed that she was taking away precious collection time. They till have my money for an accident report I never got. Is there no honor among thieves anymore?
An the abnormally low speed limits set inside the city limits just further the proof that they are set for maximum revenue generation, not safety. Slow vehicles that obstruct the flow of traffic are more dangerous than "speeders."
So how many little napoleon's can one small town have?
anon 2:07
Officer Freeto's death and this situation are totally different. Will any officer die any different in the Nestor van if a distracted soccer mom veers off and smacks the van? Remember the Rhome PD like many others use the Crown Vic that is notorious for fuel tank explosions in rear end wrecks. Maybe we ALL should just stay home today because our job is unsafe. We knew the safety hazards of our jobs when we took them. I think you will find the average drilling job that is so abundantly available in the Barnett Shale is more dangerous than most others in the area.
Anon 12:29 PM the only person you ever voted for was Jack and have an antannae ball to prove it!
This 21 year old "kid" has a name and it's McKenzie Kitchens, and I will be running for council in May. And no I do not need Patty Robison or my mother Nell Fernandez to pull my "strings." I am smart enough to know that this town has some issues that need to be worked on. And that the issues that are council presently has at hand are being worked out in a matter that is unacceptable to our city. For whoever's information I can formulate my own opinions without others prehaps others in this community should do the same. Just remember you elected your present council and if you are unsatisfied then take action to change it in May.
McKenzie Kitchens Good Luck !!! It is great to see younger people get involved and active.
I do not know you nor where you stand on any issue but I do admire any person that is willing to stand up and want to make a difference. It is all to easy to stand back and throw stones ...
Good Luck :)
Thank you very much collectionsite. I greatly appreciate your support!
McKenzie
I know McKinzie and belive that she is a bright and intel young lady. Since she is like her mother then public service and community service are important parts of her life.
She is more likely to understand city business and commnity affairs then "biker Bob" or "I've got a internet degree Godfrey".
In May it will be time for the citizens of Rhome to step up and replace "Dewey, Cheatem and Howe" or by their real names of Lorance,Valdez and Martenez.
Good luck McKinzie!
Nestor stock closed @ 1.32 a share last Friday, up 2 cents.
I bet someone is losing their ass!
McKenzie, where do you stand on the traffic camera issue? Do you think it has turned Rhome into another England or Wales? I am interested to hear from the younger generation such as yourself.I wish you you luck if you run, it would be nice to see a young person get elected that is from here and not a fly by night who will relocate somewhere else after they can't stand to live here after they turned Rhome into South Dallas. The cameras aren't working to well across the pond. I remember our country telling England to go straight to Hell because we didn't like their ideas. How many positions are up in May and who has their term expire then?
BTW, tell us a little about yourself if you will.
I am personally not a fan of the traffic cameras. I don't feel that Rhome has a need for that right now.
A little about me well I am 21 years old, I was raised in Rhome. I love this little town. I am a 9-1-1 dispatcher in a small city in northside Fort Worth. I am also going to college. I a currently working on my associates degree for paralegal and I plan to attend Texas Wesleyan for law.
So McKinzie, if elected to office are you going to do everything city secretary Rahma says and take part in back alley deals? If you dont you wont last long around her.
We the citizens need to clean off the council bench in May, then clean out city hall.
Why would Rahma push for the recent rezoneing from residental to commercial except that she owns property there.
And by the way, I dont believe you can do away with the camera,I believe Mayor Mark signed a contract.
01:08:
I never said I could do away with the camera I just said that I wasn't a fan. And one person can not get rid of Ramah. I do not plan to follow the other council members. As I stated in a earlier blog I can formulate my own opinions.
12:37
Three position are up this May, Chris Moore's (Godfrrey's old seat), Fernando Martinez, and Bob Robertson.
Back to the original issue at hand, Hopefully, enough of you that live in Rhome will stand up and ask for "New Blood" as leadership within the police department. There are several good, qualified individuals who have taken the time to apply for the position. A police department the size of Rhome's needs FULL-TIME leadership. Not someone that will be there part of the time and rubber stamp whatever the meyor and council says. This person needs to be a professional, CAREER, law enforcement officer with years of experience in full time leadership. If the city council hires Melema (or anyone else) as a part time chief, you will continue to have what you have. At least K C had control over the troops.
Good luck. I'm glad I didn't move to Rhome a few years ago as planned.
McKenzie can kick Nestor out after their 1 year contract is up. Communism sucks!
"Three position are up this May, Chris Moore's (Godfrrey's old seat), Fernando Martinez, and Bob Robertson."
It is sad that two of those three were "appointed" by rayma and not by the citizens. Oh wait, make that three out of three since rayma called Bob at the last minite to run since someone she did not like was running (Wilson)then she paid for Bobs campain signs.
Also do not forget that the mayors seat will be open. It will be time for the citizens of rhome to remember that the mayor and four council members said that they did not want to accept the petition to remove Godfrey and would not allow citizen comments in the meetings
McKenzie for Mayor.
