David Beckham, married to Posh Spice (pictured), has agreed to join the United States soccer club of the Los Angeles Galaxy for a reported $250 million over 5 years! That amount of money is insane. The Yankees could possibly afford that but not some spare American soccer team who last year had an average attendance of 20,814. Where in the world do they get that kind of money?

The numbers don't add up. 20,000 paid tickets for 20 home games is 400,000 paid attendance each year. $50 million (his average annual if it's 5 years at $250) divided by the total number of people in the seats for the year (400,000) is $125...meaning that $125 of every ticket goes toward his pay. How much are the tickets if they also have to cover profit, leases, other players, etc.?
I think they are overestimating the draw of David Beckham. His 15 minutes seem to be about up, don't they? Maybe you buy a ticket once just to go "see a superstar"...but don't you generally have to be a soccer fan anyway to be jazzed about this? And don't we already see that there really aren't enough soccer fans out there that are willing to put their money up to fill the seats?
Yet more professional sports insanity! And, yes, we only have ourselves to blame.
Barry, if you're going to talk about the hot David Beckham, do not show a picture of his plastic wife. Post a picture of him!
