It looks like most of us stayed home this morning due to the ice. But many workers were already off today in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Question: Are they bitter that they don't get the benefit of a surprise "don't-go-to-work" day? More importantly, will this strain race relations in Wise County?
Sidenote: Channel 8 just teased their noon newscast with: "And if a trip to the zoo was part of your plans for MLK day, we've got some important news you need to hear." (As they showed footage of an ape with the words "Zoo Closed" underneath him). Well . . . there goes my afternoon.

Take a n*gger to lunch!
There is no day in our country that honors a specific white American. Have there not been any that are worthy? MLK is a holiday. And we celebrate an Italian who visited the Dominican Republic or something, having never actually set foot on what is now U.S. soil; nor was he the first to cross the Atlantic from Europe and hit land somewhere. How can you "discover" a place, yet when you arrive there are people already there?
Will they reschedule the parade to Juneteenth or somewhere during black history month or Kwanza?
1:39...excellent point all 'round. Maybe they'd give us just one new holiday....like, It'sNotBadToBeWhite Day?
C4, But according to them, we are supposed to feel guilty about being white.
What about President's Day? I don't recollect the US ever having a black president, yet. And what about Christmas Day? I know all the bible thumping Wise Guys have pictures of a white Jesus.
Why do colleges have no classes for the MLK event but have classes as usual on Lincoln's birthday?
Very interesting.
12:54 asks some good questions.
It is appropriate to note that an ape was used to remind us that the zoo was closed because of MLK Day.
6:05, You are mistaken about never having a black President. Does the name BJ Clinton ring a bell?
sad bunch of sob's you people are! only thing worse than black trash is white trash.
and you are supposed to know better. bet you're prety much cowards also.
yep, ignerant and cowardly. you have alot to look forward to. probably come by it honest.your mom and dad probably have degrees. no doubt. yea.
That was eloquently said ellis. We are proud that you are from Wise Co. also.
ellis...It would not hurt to try out your spell check every now and then...or maybe just learn how to spell correctly! The point I am making is that to accuse the previous people who have posted on this blog as ignorant, or "ignerant" as you would call it, does not give you much credibility!
ellis...just because you did not spell some words correctly does not take away your credibility. You are absolutely right on. Many people are just to stupid to understand the importance of Martin Luther King, Jr. How sad for them.
Martin was a republican. How does that chap your ass? He would have strongly opposed affirmitive action because it proposes advancement based on skin color. Jesse and the boys have set back all the gains that Martin strived for. That sound you hear is him spinning in his grave. Sorry to ruin your lunch for you ellis.
