I saw that on CNN. You know - it wasn't his fault he tried to have sex w/boys - he has a problem w/alcohol (sadly) - he can't be held responsible.

It is also a good place to hide from the press after you have shamed yourself and your family.

Alcohol won't make you suddenly bugger young boys. It just removes your inhibitions.

Lets review my later post on

"Here are the 25 Rules to be a good Republican:

1) Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you are
millionaire conservative radio jock, which makes it an illness and
needs our prayers for your recovery.

Hey ... how did I guess ...

Replace Radio Jock and insert Millionaire Congressman. Who wants to bet by the end of the day there will be a message from the GOP ...

"LETS ALL PRAY FOR FOLEY'S RECOVERY"

Yeah, it seems that the party in power for the present has a penchant for slamming the opposition and protecting their own. If Americans don't get off of their butts and vote next month, I'll be considering a move...to another country. The party in power is full of pedophiles and warmongers and I for one, am tired of the status quo.

Actually, I'm tired of BOTH parties, especially as they exist at the national and state level. And I'm a local officeholder!!

9:14 - I think you are right. He needs not only alcohol rehab but some mental help with a sick addiction to young boys.

11:05 - good points too. This should get the Republicans off of Clinton's back for a while.

At least he had what most of us would consider a "normal" attraction to the opposite sex.

Makes me wonder if we would elect these folks if we knew these things beforehand.

Probably.

It will be very interesting to see if the Republicans go after Mark Foley with the SAME vigor for violating the "public's trust" and having an inappropriate sexual relationship as they did Bill Clinton. It will be MORE interesting to see if the Democrats are as understanding and supportive of Mark Foley as they were Bill Clinton.

BOTH parties are chock full of sleazebags who do NOT represent the morals and interests of the majority of Americans.

11:49AM, Dennis Hastert knew about it for at least ten months and his aides knew since fall of 2005. Some reports are claiming it was known since 2001.

Self-righteousness exists in both political parties.

It is sickening.

And Bush is a United Methodist. Wonder if they'd like to sweep that under the rug?

Foley deserves all the disgrace and whatever punishment he receives for his actions. Many people, though, are implying that what he did is worse because he's a Republican. Doesn't this argument then suggest that this type of behavior would be somehow more acceptable if he were a Democrat?

Decent Democrats are being forced from their own party. Long-time Democrats must be wondering what has happened to the party of Truman and JFK. People who believe in morality, national security and traditional family values are not welcome in Democrat circles.

Joe Lieberman -- reputedly a decent man, even if a raging Liberal -- was savagely attacked by the Democrat leaders, simply because he dared to believe the war in Iraq might be the right thing to do.

Notice that no Republicans are defending Foley's actions; no news stories have been released trashing the character of the victim; no excuses have been made for him. Contrast that with how Democrats have handled similar scandals. (Paula Jones & Kathleen Willey, for example.)

All this case proves is that Republicans don't have a monopoly on decency, just as Democrats don't have the monopoly on depravity.

Does anyone remember Clinton giving a pardon to Mel Reynolds who was accused of having an affair with a underage subordinate? Can you say hypocrite?

Rehab: The New Apology. Rehab: Get Out of Jail Free Card.

Why can't people be like Flip Wilson and just say, "The Devil Made me Do It"!

You never seem to hear of people just checking into rehab for their addictions. It's always after they've been caught doing something.

Lots of things wrong here.

1. This doesn't compare to Bill Clinton. What Clinton did was what probably 95% of all men would have done in his place. Monica was not underage either. AND SHE was the predator.

2. Foley is THE predator and what he was doing was sick if not criminal.

3. 9:14 is correct.

4. His Republican boys knew about this 1 year ago. They should all be held accountable too - even prison time and resignations.

5. The head over the page program did NOT know about it until now contradicting what the Republicans claim.

6. I totally agree we have to get out the vote on every level and get America back. If this doesn't happen, life outside the U.S. does seem like a good option.

This should be the inscription on the plinth that supports the Monument to Democrat Beliefs.

2:27 - dream on.

Get America back?

Please tell us how Democrats will make things better.

Specifically, please!

I think we need to re-focus here.

The man is sick - I don't really care what excuse he is using (alcoholism, etc.) He rallied in front of Congress to stop the very thing that he is now being accused of. There are extremely sexually ill people in our country - and I agree that "gone into rehab" seems to happen again and again after they have been caught doing something they should not have. Saving face. BS. Democrat, Republican, Kinky's, whatever, this man should be treated as any other sexual preditor and prosecuted completely. Yes sir, his family "lovingly supports him" - hey, they have to, right, just before they head to the divorce lawyer.

To anonyNOTHING 3:27...
Ahhhh...uhhhhh...There is a fact you have overlooked about this sexual predator. Mark Foley is SINGLE.

I personally believe because he courted and was granted the "public's trust" he should be held to a HIGHER standard and should receive greater scrutiny and harsher treatment for his crimes/transgressions. However, I felt the same way about Bill Clinton, Patrick Kennedy, Tom Delay, Ted Kennedy and all the other elected officials who have thought and acted as though they were above the law.

I realize my belief that he/they should be treated differently/more harshly is unfair and unjust BUT it is how I feel.

Anonymous said...

mzchief,

I stand corrected - I did not know that he was single. Small blessing - he's still total slime.

Anonymous said...

You are blaming their "above the law" status on their political position and to an extent I agree but the greater factor in their "above the law" status is their $M$O$N$E$Y.

The same thing happens in Wise county. Rich people get away with it because they can hire attorneys to cover the truth and prolong legal proceedings until it is not economically feasible to pursue them.

Welcome to the world of blind justice in our country. I agree with 10:36 -- I am looking for another country in which to retire.

To anonyNOTHING 5:37...
It is their POWER and INFLUENCE not "$M$O$N$E$Y" that makes politicians more susceptible to corruption.

I hear there're lots of pages who are calling in "problems" with various congressmen and aids. I'll bet the Republicans are rounding up some who will accuse some Democrats. Whether true or not, it'll take the heat off till after the election - at which time the Repubs will forget all about it (if they still controll congress).

the house is tumbling down. further developments on the horizon! me thinks there will be many repugs implicated in the cover up.

Hastert is asking for a letter of support. It goes something like this:

I strongly support Denny Hastert during this time of crisis, and I understand completely why he chose to shield a sexual predator rather than risk losing a safe Republican seat. So what if a few pages' seats were left somewhat less safe as a result? In a time of endless war against a wily foe whose name sometimes changes by only one letter, we must be willing to sacrifice other people's sons and daughters, be it on the battlefield or in the House of Representatives.

let it be written on the Republican monument of beliefs.

Children NOT women first!
