How do you do.

I am sorry suddenly.

I am doing the diary of the high school student by japanese now.

Please see, if there is time.

I am sorry for poor English.

Notice how they don't mention any names in the article. It's funny...the double standard even in dealing with crime.

From the July 13, 2006 Chico Texan:

"Director of Public Works Ed Cowley reported that City employee and Animal Control Officer Sandra Pugh has resigned because of health issues."

Hmm indeed.

Anonymous said...

I'm 99% sure the alleged "animal hoarder" is an animal control officer for Decatur.

Anonymous said...

11:11 you are correct!

Anonymous said...

my mom gave her jack russell to this nut job woman a few weeks ago without doing some research. now she's trying to get the dog back. good luck mom.

Anonymous said...

Anon. 11:03, Sandra Pugh had nothing to do with this story. She resigned for health issues. The animal control officer referenced in this case is the Decatur ACO.

Anonymous said...

The news interviewed her. I hope she is relieved of her job. However well intentioned she is, she shouldn't be able to work with animals that she could just take home instead of taking them to the pound. Sad situation.

Anonymous said...

7:01 The animals that she had did not come from the pound. She had those prior to becoming the city animal control officer. She has raised different breeds of terriers for a long time.

Anonymous said...

7:10 I know that, I've know her for a long time. but she is a collecter, it's a compulsion. She honestly believes that she is helping. No one person with a full time job (heck without a full time job) could take care of 200+ dogs.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you 7:21. I just did not want people to assume that she took all those animals home from the pound when she did not. There is no point in the story becoming more ugly than it already is.

The Dallas Morning News reported that it was Sherry Jo Behrend. If any of you know her or are interest?

The Dallas News said that there were many dead dogs in the home. Yuck, that had to be bad smelling in this heat!

Ahem
A "collector" accumulates art, coins, cars, belly button lint and such NONlivng items. People who "collect" 200+ living creatures and mistreat those creatures through either abuse or neglect are criminal whackos.

I hope they throw the book at this person and not only punish them to the full extent of the law but also make certain the perpetrator receives MENTAL care. Let's face it, pedophiles, shoplifters/kleptomaniacs, alcoholics who receive their 3rd, 4th, 5th OWI/DUI are ALL people with uncontrollable compulsions whom society has declared need punishment and should also require they receive extensive MENTAL care.

Easy mzchief - I think you are going to the extreme. I think she had too many dogs, way too many dogs. But I watched the news report on several channels. Every dog I saw looked very healthy. I did not see one that looked like it was starving. Comparing someone that is boarding to many dogs to a repeated drunk driver is a little drastic. In fact, I got a dog from her several years ago. It was very healthy and well cared for. It had all of it shots. This is a very unfortunate situation for her and her family without people like you ranking her with shoplifters and pedophiles.

Anonymous said...

8:43 I agree with you, I watched the footage from all three videos and never noticed a unhealthy dog. I agree the had way to many dogs, but the person had to have great intentions and been highly motivated to keep the area looking as well as it is. I'm sure someone will search out the worst looking dog and plaster it all over the WCM.

Anonymous said...

9:35 I agree and that is what it so unfortunate about situations as this. Instead of focusing on all the good things she has done the papers will most likely focus on the negative simply because it draws more interest and more money. In today's society we are often more interested in people's misfortunes rather than their successes. What ever happened to the day's of looking for good in all people?

I don't know her, and have never seen her or her place. I do know that I have two JRT's - we call them Jack Rascal Terrors - they are brothers that are 1-1/2 years old, neutered, shots, wormed, in-house, Iam's pet food, only the best, blah blah. Luckily, sadly or whatever, my 83 year old father bought them for us, as a pair, so, since we are here taking care of him, we get to take care of the Jack Rascals as well. We totally love them, would not give anything for them, but, THEY ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE. I won't even attempt to provide you all with a list of things they have destroyed - my dad's glasses is just a start. I also have a PITBULL - the most lovely dog you would ever hope to meet.....what I read in the news makes me want to rescue some of the doggies, but I know what our limit is. I will just think positively for them until it's all reconciled.

mzchief...to compare this woman who you don't even know to a pedophile is just downright ignorant!

I've known Sherry Jo for years and she is a very sweet person who has ALWAYS been a dog lover. I believe that she did the best she could but maybe had more than she could handle.

Anyone wanting to adopt any of these healthy dogs can contact the SPCA in McKinney.

Sherri jo is a good woman with a big heart that just had too much on her plate. She wanted to save the world so to speak. She loved dogs and would take any dog that needed a home in. Its sad to know that people look at the negative in people that are trying to do a good deed. She just didn't need that many dogs, it was too much. She didn't mistreat any of them. So people unless you know the entire situation keep you rude comments to yourself. and quit judging!

For Sherry Jo, I have known her a long time and worked with her at her previous job. She is NOT a nut case. She is a Woman with a BIG HEART and truely thought she was helping, yes she did go overboard, and ended up in a Bad situation, but she truely is a sweet woman. She needs our prayers not our criticism.

Anonymous said...

It is amazing that the people who know Sherry Jo are offering her support and only those who don't know her are criticizing her. Perhaps, if you don't know her you are not informed enough to have a fair opinion about her or the situation.

I am MANY things but “ignorant” is NOT one of those things.

To ignore this woman's possibly illegal and undeniably compulsive behaviour because YOU believe you "know" her (face it, NONE of you knew her well enough to know she had 200+ dogs at her HOME) is not only an indication of a lack of objectivity it is a clear indication of a lack of respect for the laws of acceptable behaviour set forth by the society in which we live. IF this woman was not a legal dog breeder with a safe facility, regardless of her intentions she has broken state laws and should be punished and receive MENTAL HELP to control the compulsion that is responsible for her illegal behaviour. At the very least this woman should be heavily fined in an attempt to defray the costs of cleaning up the bad situation SHE caused due to HER poor judgment.

Ignoring the misdeeds and REPEATED bad judgment of someone because you believe you "know" them is unfair and an injustice to ALL the people charged with crimes whom you do NOT "know." I hope all of you are willing to be as considerate of the prior good acts and equally understanding of the lapse in judgment of someone charged with a single or repeat DWI/OWI. Consider this, a person charged with a DWI/OWI will be punished for the seriousness of what MIGHT have happened rather than the seriousness of the harm they have actually caused. Unlike the compulsive drinker, Sherry Jo was not taking in a substance that clouded her judgment and made it difficult to know when to stop her compulsive behaviour she ELECTED while not impaired or intoxicated to breed/take in more and more dogs. Do NOT even go there. I do not drink ANYTHING stronger than pear white tea outside my home and at home, I will on the very RARE occasion indulge in a Negra Modelo. To my knowledge, I do not know someone with a compulsive drinking habit. I selected DWI/OWI because MOST people see it as an act that is ONLY a CRIME and EVERY person convicted of DWI/OWI should be locked away and deprived of the privilege of a valid driver’s license FOREVER!

I do not care WHO she is or how well you THINK you KNOW her, IF she has violated the law she needs to be punished as the law stipulates AND receive MENTAL HELP to HELP her NOT repeat HER offense.

YES! She does need prayers just as she needs, REAL help and the chance to REPAY society for any costs HER poor judgment has caused society.

Just because my opinion is completely objective, unbiased and truly pragmatic and is something foreign for a number of people does not make my opinion wrong it makes it DIFFERENT!

I do not know why I went to the trouble to explain my position because the majority of you will forever lack the objectivity to comprehend my position. However, I did make the effort and take the time!

Anonymous said...

Mzchief, you keeping speaking on mental help. May we see your degree in pyschologyand criminal justice? Exactly what laws has she broke? If you don't know her, how can you suggest that she is mental? Since when did dog breeding become illegal? Texas does not have a limit on the number of dogs that a person can own if they are outside of city and residential areas. It seems to me that this whole ordeal might have arose from animosity between the city and county animal control officers. Think about it. Sherry Jo has had over 200 dogs for years and all of this did not become an issue until she took the position as the city ACO.

Mzchief your words are empty and meaningless, because you lack all the facts of this situation. Be intelligent enough to admit that much.

I agree with mzchief....why should we say it's ok just because we know who she is and she is a "kind hearted" person? Obviously she has a problem. This is a psychological disorder called collecting. She may have had the best of intentions, but can you really defend her because she had a big heart for animals? So did Elizabeth Rohr. She loved her horses....almost to death from neglect.

Perhaps if she had been caring for the dogs full time instead of working for the city (and maybe even hired an assistant too) she might have been able to care for that many dogs PROPERLY. But you can not convince me that nothing was wrong there when there were that many dogs....that many mouths to feed, that many water bowls to fill, that much poo to clean up....she could not handle taking care of them after work! For goodness sake....it had gotten so out of hand that she abandoned her house and was living out of the travel trailer!

There is a limit to our rights people. We are never 100% free.

6:55 there was a huge difference in the Rohr case and this one. Hello - Dr. Rohr did not feed her horses. There were pics of severly malnourished horses. I am not saying that she did not have an obsessions with breeding dogs. I am saying that she took care of those animals. Have you ever been to her place? Have you ever received a dog from her? If not, you have no info to base your post on other than hearsay. Did you watch the news? Did the news show dead dogs? None of the reports that I watched showed any deceased or malnourished animals. I am not saying that they could not have found a couple of dead dogs. It has been over a 100 degress for the past several days. Heat gets to animals. Keep to the facts.

I am sticking to the facts. If you would actually read my post, you would see how I am referring to Rohr in the sense that she said she loved her horses too, but obviously just because you love something doesnt necesarilly mean you know how to take care of it.

If you want to "keep to the facts" then you have to look at more than your TV set. This world can not be viewed only through the lense of our biased media. The word of death of several dogs came from Berend's own mouth. So check your definition of hearsay.

And if she could not provide enough shade to keep the dogs from dying, then dont you think maybe she was in over her head? Maybe she made the wrong decision to TRY to care for all of those dogs?

Once again, I believe that she had the best of intentions, but it got out of hand. She needs help just like mzchief said. This is a compulsive disorder, to hoard all of these animals, believing she is doing the best thing for them.

And no, I would not buy a dog if I showed up and there were 270 others crammed into pens with each other like that. Im sorry if you were duped into buying....or "receiving" a potentially diseased animal. We call those places puppy mills. Not pretty.

P.S. Lay off the publish button. One click is enough

Anonymous said...

10:36 if Rohr loved her horses she would have fed them. U think?

Anonymous said...

10:36 For your info I was not duped into buying anything. She gave my daughter a perfectly healthy dog. She gave it to her because that is the kind of caring and compassionate person that she is. I have said before that she had way too many dogs but for 271 dogs I think the pics looked good. Everything I saw looked healthy. On days when it is 100 plus degrees anyway can lose a pet. I know how to use a computer. Have you not ever made a mistake? Don't claim to be perfect because I am sure you're not!

Anonymous said...

I never once claimed to be perfect....but neither is she. And if I had a pet I would not leave it outside to suffer until it's death. Take some responsibility people! If you take on the pet, then letting it die in the heat is not doing everything you can for it.

And that was my point about Rohr too....she said she loved them, but her actions seemed to say otherwise.

So until you gain the power of mind reading, please quit trying to tell me what Berend thought/did/felt. Obviously there was more going on than any of you who claim to know her so well were aware of. Otherwise the authorities would not be involved.

Anonymous said...

I know what I am talking about. This has been an ongoing thing. She has been harassed for months about this (ever since she took the city ACO job). If there were a real problem wouldn't the SPCA have been called on the first trip to the Berend's home instead of several visits and months later?

Anonymous said...

9:29 you can have your opion all you like but that is all it is. You lack clear knowledge of all the facts, and it truly doesn't matter what you think. This will be handled by the County Attorney and Judge Morrow who I have known to be fair and honest. Sherrie Jo and her family will continue to have my support, love and prayers despite what that out come is."Wrong or right" I know there are many others that feel the same way. I hope she knows that.

Anonymous said...

At no time has anyone in law enforcement said that Sherry Berend did not feed her animals. The charge of cruelty or neglect to animals does not strictly focus on malnourishment. It could also describe the living conditions.

And what would be so wrong with the dogs being adopted out to loving homes.

And as far as the SPCA coming out sooner. Sherry was given opportunities to clear the matter up before the SPCA had to come in and take such drastic measures. She was warned several times to clean up the dogs living conditions.

I would be the 1st to tell you what a sweet and kind lady Sherry is and I truly believe that she loves every single one of those dogs. But I also believe that the dogs could be adopted out to a loving home and be happier.

Anonymous said...

3:48 I still think that if the conditions were as horrible as they say the animals would have been removed on the 1st visit. If they left the animals there for months in those kind of conditions and did nothing about it, then they are guilty as she is.

Anonymous said...

I didn't realize doing your job is now called harassment. The Wise County ACO were just doing their jobs and trying to give these people a chance to get their place cleaned up before action was taken. You all must not know Sherri like you think you do to not know what was going on behind the walls of her house. When I say I know someone that usually means you know their lifestyle and have been to their house. None of you have clearly done that or you would have been disguisted. And if you had you are just as sick as she is for not stopping it sooner.
