Immigration Thought

I don't care if you are a right-winger or a tree-hugging-liberal, President Bush's plan to put a few thousand National Guard troops (temporarily) on the border is nothing more than spitting in the wind. This is a perfect example of why he may very well go down in history as the worst president ever. If you believe illegal immigration is going to lead to the Spanish-Speaking-Downfall-Of-Society United States, then quit wasting billions of dollars in bureaucracy and/or the war in Iraq and build a wall on the border and enforce it with troops. At least on immigration, he has a big bag of nothing.

It is an idea that is too late. Why didn't he do this a long time ago? If this President is serious about "border control" why doesn't he bring our troops home and give them that job?

His own party members are questioning this move and I wonder if his advisors have even jumped ship.

This is just pure desperation. Bush has totally lost it.

Sad for America.

And the rhetoric continues. Now why has it taken 5+ years to make these observations? Why does there need to be immigration "reform"? It worked fine for my mom (France), even for the guy I worked with for 12+ years (Canada).
The wheel is not broken, why not be honest and tell the American people what your true agenda and motives are.

I agree with all of the above. His real agenda is to take the focus away from a war in Iraq we never should have started, $3.00 gasoline, a Vice President who should be investigated over the Joe Wilson/Valeria Plume incident, and a deficit that will soon cripple this country. He will go down as one of the worst Presidents in American history.

Wow, that was very good Barry. Once again, Bush is taking the Jimmy Carter approach and try to please everyone. His proposal is a joke. It doesn't have to be a comprehensive plan. Stop the bleeding first, then figure out what to do with those already here. It can be done separately.

And was it just me, or did he seem awfully uncomfortable delivering his speech?

i dont know if you anti-war people have noticed or not, but the people in the middle east want to kill us, (911), the mexicans just want to work and sell us drugs, (that we would use anyway), its seems like the pres introduced several plans to increase domestic production of oil gas and renewable fuels for the first 4 yrs but didnt get much help from congress, seems wed rather pay 3.00 a gal. than warm up the carabu. at least he hasnt given the Koreans nuclear help, (remember Clinton, if you promis not to make a bomb well give you the technology) or missile parts to china. i guess Bush will be the worst pres. ever because that plame ladie, who wasnt even a real agent.
just be nice to the terrorist and they will leave us alone, right it worked in the 90s kinda, shee how dumb can you get and still breath.

Why do people think a wall costing billions of dollars to build and maintain will keep people out? Wasn't there a Great Wall in China? A Berlin Wall? Israel is building walls - will they be safer? Castles in the middle ages had huge walls -- with moats -- are they still there? If you have problems with a neighbor, so you build a stockade fence, does the problem go away? It is a little mind that thinks a wall is a solution.

Well Barry lets hear what you would do? You are so smart!

A wall with military security will work and does work. The fencing with military between Israel and the Palestinians does work. Israel is safer for it. Our military helps guard the border between North Korea and South Korea. It works there. So, why can't it work on our southern border. It has been calculated that the money we would save in education, health care costs etc. would more than pay for the wall or fence along the border in ONE YEAR.
Hello, catch a clue.

How about just STOPPING their free benefits here. No checks handed out...no free health care in our ER's or any place else. No home buying unless you can prove you're legal, no renting to illegals. They won't WANT to come over here anymore.
I agree with 9:10...the President seemed very nervous and uncomfortable last night.

The difference between old days and now is that the people coming here require support by those already here. Back in the old days, the people coming were needed to build out the country. The impact is negative because the people coming here do not understand or care about how we live or the responsibilities involved in living in the U.S. society. They can't. Their experience is so different, their expectations all wrong. It's not that they are bad people, they are the same as anyone else. But in the end they cost us. There's no more country to build, there are no jobs left wanting, we're all full; our institutions are at their limits. We can't pay for the schools, health care, etc. now for those that are here. Got to shut it down for a while.

Annon 11:22 you must live in a different part of the country than everyone else. Every where I drive or go to eat, I see the hourly rate people and jobs being done by mostly Hispanics. If you are out in the work place, you will find that you can't get white people to do most of the low wage jobs that these people are doing. Most do come here to work because there are jobs here and there is freedom. Also we will never be through building this country. What you see is only a continuation of what has been done in the past. Should we control our borders, the answer is yes. WE should do that. Problem is that we are about 20 years too late through many Democrate and Republican administrations. These folk are here to stay.

anon 10:23 come on you know that liberals have no real answers they just like to complain all the time.

Ronald Reagan said it best
The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant: It's just that they know so much that isn't so!!!!
true! true!

What would be your solution Barry?

Open up the border and let em all in?

Yeah, then we will revamp our schools to cater to their needs because if we don't we'll get an unacceptable rating. Our kids will be bored to death while all of the teacher's attention is directed to them.

Interesting how it becomes Bush's fault. This has been going on for years and suddenly it's his fault. At least he has the guts to propose something. (instead of just feeling their pain)

He has some "secret" purpose to divert our attention? Like that's gonna work. With CNN et al (i.e. John Stewart) it's a 24/7 barrage of lampooning and misinformation. I don't think the diversion theory would work even if Bush was 1/2 as slick as Clinton

Let's see how the demos handle it if they get control of Congress. My bet they will just throw money at it. The kids of these illegals become citizens and then they have 6 kids and they have 6 kids.......

Anon 4:10 You have to admit to asking yourself the question, Why now? He's in his sixth year as president and hasn't done anything until now. He was governor of Texas before that and never did anything about it. I saw him interviewed by O'Reilly before the last election and Bill asked him specifically about the illegal immigration problem and all he would say was they could increase the number of border patrol agents.

I don't know what his motivation is, but most likely he's not doing this for the right reason.

I am a supporter or President Bush and have been a republican for a long time. I don't think he has all the right answers. I don't know that I know all the right answers especially about what to do about those who are already here.

The problem is that the opposition (democrats and liberals) don't give any answers, just yell loudly that Bush is wrong.

Kerry might have won the last election if he had ever given the slightest clue what he was for rather than just "Bush Bad".

Your all missing the point. Most of us are decendants of immigrants from other countries. Our ancestors came to this country (including mine) and did the right thing. They became citizens. They paid their taxes, learned the language of this country, and most have been law abiding citizens. For you that do not know, illegals are here taxing our system to death, commiting crimes, running home to Mexico to hide from our legal system, (see the Messenger article about the recent homicide in Decatur, yes I said homicide)and flaunting it in front of us. Personally, I welcome them if they do it right, but they sont have to because the system isn't making them.

Another entry from 8:50 PM. Just watching the news. Appears that the suspects of the latest fatal carjacking in Dallas have fled to the border. ENOUGH SAID!!!!!
