Courthouse News

Looks like a civil suit wrapped up today at the courthouse where the jury rejected the plaintiffs' wrongful death claims. It appears that a newborn of Mellisa Ann Casillas and Dewey Peters died shortly after birth of "DiGeorge's Syndrome". They sued claiming that metroplex doctors Anissa August, Michael Willcuts, and Chanda Simpson were negligent in failing to diagnosis the ailment. The jury, voting 10-2, didn't agree. A courthouse filing on 1/10/05 stated that the Plaintiffs had offered to settle with Dr. Willcuts for $1.3 million. He rejected the demand. The suit was filed in Wise County because the child had been born at the Wise Regional Hospital before being transferred to Cook's. Edit: A loyal reader calls my attention to the fact that Dr. Anissa August is local.

I don't doubt that the jury did the RIGHT thing...Dr. Wilcutts was my pediatrician before taking the position with Cook's. He's an excellent doc, and a sensible guy who is an expert in his field...

ANYTIME things do not go correctly with ANYTHING, the first thing out of a mouth is "let's sue them". Even if they know the fault does not lie with the person sued, they are hoping on nuisance settlements which usually come about. So wrong, so wrong!

There are a few instances, where a malpractice suit is necessary. This was just total lack of respect, by the attorney who agreed to take this case.

Just another way to tie up our up our time in the courtroom.

I hope the parents can find closure

I do not have any doubt that at some point all of these Dr's were or are good Dr's with the exception of one. In order to get the closure that was needed for MY DAUGHTER the mother of MY GRANDSON that died from lack of a BLOOD TEST the goal in this case was accomplished. Thank you to the unconsiderate, uncompassionate, ignorant idiot that even started this site. Put yourself in the other parties shoes and know the whole story before you assume anything or make a comment. I was there from the begining and it was the DOCTORS at Medical City Dallas that encouraged the suit. It was NOT for MONEY. The purpose was justice and it was whole heartedly received. Thank you Collectionsite for aleaest being compassionate. I wish I would have known this site was here sooner.
