Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • We babysat of Friday night. Before that night, I had a baby spit up on me maybe once in my life.  I then went through four shirts before 10:00 p.m. I guess there's a reason you see that towel drooped over a mom's shoulder.
  • And we also ended up with two little kids. I had a first: I was offered a french fry dipped in syrup.
  • We started decorating the front lawn with Christmas stuff yesterday. Mrs. LL played Christmas carols which gave rise to a very cheesy setting -- but in a good way.
  • When did the ground get so hard?
  • Mrs. LL and the girls want me to see some Christmas design a few miles away but I'm a little worried when the Fourth-Grader-In-The-House said, "I'm not sure he should see it because he won't like our decorations after that."
  • I caught parts of The Terminal yesterday with Tom Hanks which I had seen before. It's pretty cheesy -- in a bad way.
  • Wrong way driver on 635 in Dallas this morning injures six.
  • Bob Costas has caused quite a stir because he went on a gun control rant during the Cowboys' game last night in light of the murder/suicide by the Kansas City Chiefs' player.  Hey, it was just an opinion of one guy, but all the talk radio shows are acting like he's introduced legislation to ban handguns. (And get ready for crazy Ted Nugent to get all sorts of press today.)
  • And they are already blaming the murder/suicide on NFL concussions?
  • The "Paradise model" got in a wreck over the weekend.
  • Mrs. LL and the girls went to see the Nutcracker at the Tarrant County Convention Center. All of them said it was very "amateurish" except for about two dancers.
  • Mitt Romney had lunch with the President this weekend at the White House. Free government lunch?
  • It's December of 2012.  That 12/21/12 guy has been posting in here for what I bet is at least three years. Finally that date will arrive.
  • Sports: (1) Baylor beat OSU in football and Kentucky in basketball at the exact same time on Saturday. I was giddy. (2) How UT does not have a quarterback on the roster is a great mystery of the universe. (3) College football hit of the week. (4) The BCS does a good job of putting #1 vs. #2 together, but other than that it is a mess. Northern Illinois is the Orange Bowl? (5) Baylor is going to the Bridgepoint (not Bridgeport) Holiday Bowl which I hate. It's a Thursday and I've been to San Diego and that stadium before. Hard to justify going again. (5) TCU hung tight against OU and is a really good team, but they now have four losses.
  • There was a Rhome man killed in a wreck this weekend according to the Update. Doesn't it seem a little premature for a trooper to say, "He was likely intoxicated"?

It's December of 2012...

-Is anyone worried yet?

Doesn't it seem a little premature for a trooper to say, "He was likely intoxicated"?

-That officer showed no class by making that statement. It doesnt matter tho, he wont be held accountable at all. What a low life.

tu does have quarterbacks. They out recruit everyone every year and can not develop any players. Oklahoma is getting shafted twice, they miss out on a BCS and then will get blasted by Texas A&M.

Just on FRIDAY, you said, "In Oregon, a guy is lucky to be alive after his car teeters on an overpass after crashing. Yep, DWI." Based on what?

Yet three days later, you say, "Doesn't it seem a little premature for a trooper to say, "He was likely intoxicated"?"

The Update reported that Trooper Patterson "noted the vehicle smelled strongly of alcohol, and there were four 'alcohol containers' in the car."

I know that you've never personally investigated a major crash with intoxication, but those of us who have know that you can clearly smell the alcohol in the spilled blood. So we've got an experienced crash investigator, on the scene, who knows the situation, may know something about the driver's past, knows that there is alcohol in the driver's blood and fresh containers in the car, and that the driver crashed. A reasonable person in such a circumstance would tend to believe that alcohol had contributed to that crash. He said "probably." He didn't say that the deceased was without a doubt.

Get over yourselves.

Bob Costas, like most national media types, is just another sheltered liberal with his head up his a$$!

Instead of ranting against guns,
he should rant against the parents who raised that thug. Or rant against the coaches and athletic departments that have a history of choosing certain players that they know are violent and have a history of self-destructive behavior.

BTW.....O.J. didn't need a gun.....and his ex-wife is STILL dead!

How about giving the trooper the benefit of the doubt? This is what he does for a living, and a 'likely' pronouncement won't be included on the death certificate. Besides, the story did go on to say that "the vehicle smelled strongly of alcohol, and there were four “alcohol containers” in the car." Easy assumption. Where's that "We're drugs r alkyhol involved?" dude when you need him?

Your average person - let's say they have nothing more than a GED on their resume, and little working knowledge of how infants operate - should figure out after probably the second shirt change, that the chances of it happening a third or fourth time are very good. An oddsmaker would have a field day following you around.

9:56, you stated the point(s) that no crazy liberal can ever make a connection to. We need to also ban ropes because people can hang themselves, oh, and bedsheets for the same reason. But, the biggest killers in our society today are the vehicles!!
A crazy lib will be the first to say that it wasn't the vehicles fault but the drivers - but for whatever reason - they can't make the same conclusion about people and guns.
I say lets have the next sports commentator do a "personal opinion" rant on banning all vehicles!!
Check the stats - vehicles kill far more people than guns.

Regarding Bob Costas' comments about “the gun culture”, it would be interesting to hear the whack-job-leftists’ definition of exactly what that is. Would it include descriptions like: highly moral law abiding patriots that own guns for lawful sporting and recreational purposes, for protection of their own lives and the lives of their families, friends, neighbors and even strangers, for protection of the country in case of invasion or the need for activation of a citizen’s militia, etc.?

Loves has a lot of drunk transient people hanging out walking into town and asking the residents and customers for money. I saw one guy drunk at the end of the road when I filled up, then he was begging for money at the atm by the bank when I went by there later. There seems to be a bad alcohol problem in that town. It was nice years ago, but now a lot of people are leaving because of the cult mentality it has.

I am sure that your description is accurate (for about 20% of gun owners at best).

That means that your position is no better than Mr. Costas'.

For the rest of you, hammers have another valid purpose, as do ropes and lamps. Using these in your arguments is weak at best.

Am I in favor of gun control? In some form, yes. Am I in favor of broad gun controls? No. Do I think that people are the problem? Yes.

Do we have a gun problem? Yes.

Do most people have accurate facts or perceptions about guns, gun laws and attitudes about guns? No.

Until we can have rational discussions about our problems, there is not hope of finding a solution.

The trooper was out of line with that comment. Intoxicated is a legal term that will be determined by the M/E. Even if he knows for sure law enforcement officers don't pronounce someone probably guilty. It's not a matter of what he knew from expericnce. He will be reprimanded for that statement to the press.

I've put over 1000 rounds of brass and steel through my XDm 9mm and have have no issues at all. Not a single jam or failure to eject. Where things are made doesn't dictate quality. Design and workmanship does. I'm sure the people working for Springfield in Croatia take as much pride in their jobs as we do here in America.

Anonymous said...

People like 8:22 put workers in America out of business buying that xd junk that should have been made here. Springfield is a long standing U.S. arms maker right? Then make the XD here, not Croatia to avoid taxes like some fat cat politician.

I'm with you Spanish. I've got over 1500 rounds through my XD 40 and not a single jam. I wouldn't trade it for a S&W any day.

SpanishWarDonkey said...

People people with testicular fortitude issues buy .45 pistols. Proper shot placement will do the job. You don't need a huge round to make your point. S&W makes a fine product as well. I'll start buying 100% American made when I know it's not union produced. My money is not going to go to someone that wants to make $50/hour doing something a trained monkey could do with no special skills or education. As for 10:58, I believe you mean the fat cat politicians are the ones that make it more profitable to run a business overseas than in America.

My 20% comment was a response to:

"highly moral law abiding patriots that own guns for lawful sporting and recreational purposes, for protection of their own lives and the lives of their families, friends, neighbors and even strangers, for protection of the country in case of invasion or the need for activation of a citizen’s militia, etc.? "

I judge this description to be "over the top" and self serving, thus I object to it's use in a discussion about guns. I would bet that 50% of (legal) gun owners are improperly trained in their use, and are more of a danger to themselves and others than anything else.

Yes, there are good, responsible gun owners out there, but there are just as many irresponsible untrained idiots that own guns.

FYI, the last time I took my boys out shooting, there were 13 guns in the (locked) box.

I am not against guns, I am for their responsible use, and pretending that all gun owners are all "highly moral" patriots is a joke.

Anonymous said...

1:02, S&W is not union. Winchester was, and you still suck. XD and shot placement talk is for sissies that can't handle a 45.

Anonymous said...

1:02 would rather buy from a 13 year old kid in some Asian hellhole making 13 cents an hour to buy a gun that costs the same as a U.S. made one.
