I heard a news blurb of power outages in Waco and surrounding counties this morning attributable to of all things, electrical poles catching fire. Now I just heard that I-30 in Rowlett was shut down because a pole caught fire there and might fall on the highway.
Crazy.

Power was also out in the Azle area this morning.
Then someone is planning on incinerating the town of Decatur because there are poles EVERYWHERE!

They're not really worried about the poles. The energized power lines are the concern. If they fell, they could decapitate drivers on the highway, fall across fuel tankers causing explosions, electrocute motorist as they get out of their vehicles, etc. A royal pain for everyone involved, but not many good options.
On December 21 2012 the sky will appear to fall.
