One of the last great true gentleman actors of my generation. Grew up with Andy and the gang as a kid. Rest in peace Andy, and thank you for your gift to the world.
Dang! I've always considered myself an Andy Griffith Show fan. My favorite episodes included the Darlings, of course played by the Dillard family, or whenever Raef Hollister sings....I've loved those shows for all of my 17 years here on earth.
But since I didn't know there were words to the song I'm not a fan, I guess.
Not only was he lovable Sheriff Andy Taylor, he was the sadistic "demagogue in denim" Lonesome Rhodes in Elia Kazan's "A Face in the Crowd" . Andy had some serious acting chops.
Just saw an ad on MeTV (CH47). They will be running a tribute including the pilot of The Andy Griffith Show (a Make Room For Daddy episode) and a bunch of shows that he guest starred in starting Noon tomorrow.

It's a sad day in mayberry!
Rest in peace and honor Sheriff...
it's not official until Danny announces it today on the Hardline
I've dreaded this day for a long time.
One of the all-time greats.
ShaZam!
DF I'm still alive Jim Nabors.
Stay hard Sheriff Taylor!
Go Home buddy we will miss you!
9:27 Agreed!
The Fishin' Hole. If you watched Andy when the show was on (not in syndication/reruns) you probably knew it had lyrics and sang along.
He was 86, so his passing comes as no surprise...surprise...surprise!
Triple Fake Gomer
It had words?
I had no idea....just the whistling.
The "Barney theme" is called Manhunt.
Very sad. He was a great actor.

I'm gonna miss Andy!

On December 21 2012 we'll all be able to relate to Andy.
I nominate 12/21/12 guy to be the recipient of Barney's bullet--to be delivered at 725 fps.
I would love to go back to the time of the Andy Griffin Show. *sigh*
Too bad he didn't live long enough to take advantage of free ObammyDoesn'tCare that he promoted.
If you see an Andy Griffith episode in black and white, then you know you are getting quality. If you see it in color, then don't waste your time.
It's amazing how boring and unfunny that show became once Barney left (coinciding with the show going to color).

Lord, were those time more simple?
Shame our kids can't be reared in such an era.

I always enjoyed Sheriff Andy Taylor, but I did learn one consistent thing after many years as a loyal fan of the show. NEVER piss off Aunt Bee.
My Other Brother Darryl
I thought the guy who became deputy after Barney left was deplorable. Can't even remember his name...

2:17,
If I'm not mistaken(and I'm not) the show went to color in 1963 and knotted was still a character then.
Just another piece of real America gone. Not many pieces left of real America. Sad.
