Wise County Reunion

Saw this video which looks to be about a year old but only with 67 hits. Figured some of the locals might like it.

I remember as a kid I was confused by the (look the other way) gambling that was going on.  There was a huge square both opened on three sides that was nothing more than roulette with darts. You could place your bets in cash on the black or red square in front of you and then one of the bettors would throw a dart onto a massive checkerboard.  Red or black paid 2 to 1. However, all the squares were separated by about a 1/4" to 1/2" border in white. If the dart hit there, the house won.

Those days are gone.

Edit: Someone questioned the color scheme and I'll concede I may be wrong about that. They all said that the border didn't go to house but paid 3 to 1. Hmmm. I guess that's possible. I just remember everyone losing their money when a border was hit and it's possible there weren't many 3 to 1 bettors.

(Someone posted a comment earlier complaining about a Latino band that is scheduled to play on one of the nights this year --- that got me thinking about Reunion.)

A freaking Latino Band! Really!! How untraditional could one get? Maybe a bull fight, or some cock fights? No need to include them I would be willing to bet they were not included all those years ago!

Now its been viewed at least 68 times.
Where is this held?

And did we have a nick Martinez sighting?

Guys,
As long as we are letting them into the country and allowing them to reproduce at this rate, we have no room to gripe!
Go down to your local city park one Sunday afternoon and document what you see.

10:58, Cool your heels, the debauchery will be diverse enough for all races to enjoy. I suggest you show up for the Latino band night in a pair of chuntaritos!

Bill Nobles and Rusty Duncan used to give me cash to go bet on Roscoe the Rat. They would bankroll me at about 10 years old and then cut me in on the profits.

I don't mind the hispanics, most have been here longer than all the move ins from the Keller, Colleyville, Southlake metro-mess.I wish they would all stay in the city instead of moving to Wise Co and bringing all their crap with them.

Were drugs and alcohol involved?

Holy smokes, I've had vague memories of the gambling debauchery for years, but could not place where it was I saw it.
The latin band thing has been going for years and is always pretty good.

The Aztec speak Spanish and so will your great-grandchildren. People migrate.

Adolph Oliver Bush said...

11:19, that was the perfect set up. If you got arrested, they could bail you out.

Anonymous said...

Lets get the water balloon launcher and piss some carneys off! GOOD TIMES

Anonymous said...

We also have the ability to stop migration and help people thrive in their own country. But that would take effort.
The only fault with Idiocracy is that the future population represented was too pale.

REUNION BLOWS.

Anonymous said...

Make no mistake! The end is near!

I remember Roscoe the Rat more vividly than the dart throwing. I think the darts came after the rat. Cruelty to animals or something like that.

Anonymous said...

RIP Bill Nobles. I will alway remember you as a great man you were like a father to me.

Anonymous said...

the dart game board was red and white with black borders. the red and white squares paid even money; the black borders paid 3 to 1.

Wise County Reunion? The Decatur Reunion is what it should be named. They really don't like us folk west of the Sandy, they are just a little better than us.

Goober said...

I still don't get why it's called the WISE COUNTY REUNION! 95% of the so-called "camps" are owned by people from Decatur, and they let you know that your not really welcome but they tolerate you until closing time. After that, it's should be called "The Greater Decatur Social Snob Reunion".

Anonymous said...

What's the B.O. factor there?

Anonymous said...

Think its the Old Settlers Reunion, originally. Was to celebrate the settlers of years ago.

For those of you that don't know, the reunion is held at the nudist camp north of town. There is a Mexican theme with a band and giant pinata. Also, there is a women's mud wrestling match to raise money for the single mothers of decatur. We will also spit-roast a wild pig for all to enjoy. It's a great representation of our wonderful county. Hope to see you there.

One year I watched Shotgun Fellars play a dice game at the carnival. They had two big dice that dropped out of a shelf when you pulled a rope. Paid even money for below 7 and above 7. I think 7 paid three to one. Shotgun was in uniform and working at the time.

Thomas Brumelow taught me how to shoot dice...he was good to the kids. RIP

Killer gave me my first beer.

Mud wrestling- Mmmmmm muddy.

Was that the killer that layer arrested for pedophilia?
Fun reminiscing isn't it?

The Reunion is what you make it. It's stupid to stupid people, its snobby for snobby people and for most of us, its just a good time with family and friends. The video explains it well. Thanks for posting it!

Wise county Reunion is why evryone in Decatur is kin to each other. If you don't think so then just hang out after dark any night and watch the camps and parking lot

Y'all get over Reunion. It's not our fault people in Bridgeport, Boyd, Chico, Alvoid, and especially New Fairview suck.

Oh man what a memory- Thomas Brumelow. He was like a big brother to me. His was the first non family funeral I went to in my life.
Oh crap, now I'm all sad and messed up feeling.
Someone say something funny (or at least snarky)quickly to cheer me up.
Sheesh- there's something in the air around here.

sniff

Anonymous said...

Now that's funny right there...lmao

Anonymous said...

LMAO! 4:25 is right! It's always been the social club for the Decatur elite who couldn't get a club membership at River Oaks, much less Ridglea!

11:19 & 12:55 - Roscoe the Rat rocked.

I think I actually came out on the net + side betting on him!

Looks like a family event by daylight
And................at nite

I grew up between Decatur and Bridgeport with family in both towns. I love the reunion and go at least one night every year.It is the WISE COUNTY reunion, I see people from all over the county there. I live in Bridgeport now and my kids go to school there. If you feel like its just for Decatur folks you're making yourself feel that way. Yes a lot of the camps are owned by Decatur families because they get handed down through the generations.Leave the Decatur Bridgeport feud for football season and get out the and have a good time.

I am always amazed to see teachers and school board members slamming down with kids during this week.

The Reuinion is a deabauchery filled cousin f(&*))&in' good time in the cabins after dark, Decatur style.

Anonymous said...

Ohhh the memories, goin and winning money on the dart game, while goin to the parking lot fillin our styrofoam cups with cold brewskies gettin drunk and closin the night out with jammin out and rockin with the hair band called IMPULSE!!!!
Yep I been known to puke a few times there!!!!

Anonymous said...

There is nothing snobbish about the reunion. My gosh, it's the most down to earth type of gathering there is. If you feel you're being snubbed, then it is YOU who have a very severe self ego problem. Seek help!

No place, no event can be more friendly and inviting to all who go! Don't have a camp there? So what! Walk through the camps and go introduce yourself to people there. That is what this is all about! Bet you'll be invited for food or drink! I haven't been there in quite a while, but I know there is no friendlier place or more "old fashioned" goodness to be found anywhere! Go. Enjoy. Be friendly.

Reunion is a sad commentary on the culture of Wise County.

Anonymous said...

I sort of remember the rat, but I'm sure what it was supposed to do.

Anonymous said...

I remember when they used to play Bingo out there. Had huge Bingo setup in the middle of the midway. Fun! They should bring that back!

Anonymous said...

I want Rosco the Rat back, he wasn't snobby. At least the Rat knew he was a Rat. Nuff said

The reunion is wise county tradition. All you West of Big Sandy crybabies with a chip on your shoulder need to get over it. Just because yall came over as teenagers and got your asses kicked for thinking you were better than everyone else is your problem.Quit livin in the past. they sold some new lots several years ago. yall should have bought yourselves one. Can't everyone just get along. Yall have butterfield stage days so quit your cryin and come over and have a beer. Be mindful of where your daughters are. There have been many a young lassie lose her virginity there.

You people with the "BIG SANDY" issues need to GROW UP and realize there is a whole big world out there that does not revolve around high school football. And as for all the cabins being owned by "Decatur", you need to check your facts. There are several cabins owns by people from the Metroplex and one cabin has family that come in from other states to enjoy the week. As usual people speak without all the facts.

Anonymous said...

Ok so now that Bridgeport beat Decatur in football everyone needs to grow up and realize that there is a whole big world out there that does NOT revolve around "HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL" HAHAHA

What a bunch of idiots! That is all!

We have a camp at reunion and we are from Alvord. My husband is on the reunion committee and he is originally from Missouri. He moved here in his 30's and we got married. We love Reunion. It is what you make of it. I enjoy having a good time. I do miss the horse races in the carnival, bring them back.
