WBAP's Mark Davis This Morning: "Can We Have Our 7th Inning Stretch Back?"

At least he asked if the question should be asked.

It was prompted after wondering whether we've grown tired of God Bless America in the 7th Inning of every game. And that thought was prompted by the lady pictured above singing that song at the Giants/Phillies game last night.

I'm as patriotic as any, but I have never understood why this "tradition" has stuck around. Also, why is it shown on TV during every baseball game and not the Star Spangled Banner?

It's not over until the fat lady sings?

"Our"- not "out"?

She's no lady, she's my wife.

It drives me up that wall that everyone removes their hat and puts their hand over their heart. Ummmm....It's just a song....it's not an official song. I think when people do that, it shows disrespect towards the Star-Spangled Banner, as that is and should be the only song that requires that.

As crazy as it sounds.... baseball games have become over patriotic....

ditch the 7th inning stretch God bless America .... it's a beat down

but who's going to stand up for something that might sound negative.... more is not better.. it's just more and no one will say it and do away with it because they are scared people will say "you don't love your country"

craziness

I've thought the same thing -- It's become trite that every song with the word America or USA in it has become an anthem. I'm extremely patriotic, so no bashing, please. I have two family members in DFW National cemetery, recite the pledge, sing the National Anthem at games and such.

I think it's just as American to sing,
"Take me out to the ball game,
take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don't care if I never get back.
Let me root, root, root for the home team, if they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game."

Now THAT would have been fun at last night's Rangers' win!

Once you question this aloud ( and I agree) you can chalk up how crazy people will think you are for wondering why everyone has to wear pink to everything in October, too. Seriously, no breasts are being saved by the color.
