- Hide you wives, hide your kids, hide your husbands: The Dallas City Council is on a retreat in Paradise starting today! Edit: Oops. My bad. That was last year. (Always double check that first sentence when making a first bullet point at 5:00 in the morning.)
- There's a Wise County Tea Party web site?
- My front lawn was transformed into a Halloween Spider Invasion Theme last night. My neighbors will think I'm on drugs.
- I was shocked to see Yankee stadium clear out last night near the end of the game. They are normally hardline-stay-until-the-end kind of people.
- 105.3 The Fan's Richie Whitt was at the game - want to see his vantage point from inside Yankee Stadium.
- It's amazing Rick Perry won't debate but Texans will re-elect him going away. Then again, I guess that's why he's not debating.
- I spend a lot of time telling my puppy to "Hush!" even though I'm 100% convinced she has no idea what I mean.
- There has been talk over the last couple of weeks of creating a new DWI offense nicknamed "DWI-Lite" for those driving with an alcohol concentration between .05 to .08. But no one has said what the level of the offense would be. Right now, regular DWI is a Class B misdemeanor. Would the new offense be a Class C -- the equivalent of a traffic ticket punishable by fine only? I don't see that happening.
- And, in related news, there was a wrong way driver causing death this weekend on Airport Freeway in Hurst on Saturday morning.
- The 7th grader in my house became 1st Chair in flute, proclaimed it to be "ice cream night" per our earlier agreement, made a trip to the store to get it, and then forgot to eat it.
- And, in kind of related news, Bobby V's Sports Bar is still open in Arlington?
- Who in the heck were all those women in that one section cheering for Texas last night at Yankee Stadium? Players' wives?
- Good grief, I may never watch an episode of Conan if they don't stop showing commercials about it.
- The Update tells me 277 voted early yesterday in Wise County but I have no idea if that is light, average, or heavy turnout.

It is a testament to the IQ of Texans (at least in their party primaries) that Rick Perry, Phil King, and Tom Bishop can be the "cream of the crop."
The Demo Party is dead. We can only count on Repubs to gives us a choice in their primaries.
There has to be better people than this in the Republican Party.
Cliff Lee is the bomb! Hope Hunter can bring it tonight as well (he can be good, but not consistent).
At least we're bringing the series back to Arlington now!
The "loyal" Ranger fans deserve it! All of those who are just now jumping board because the Rangers are winning, get at the end of the line!
GO RANGERS!
Both of the governor candidates are jokes. Debra Medina should have won the primary if even only half of the Republican primary voters would have listened to what her positions were. She called out Perry quite well in the only debate that loser would attend. He answered next to nothing with a qualified response.
As far as Bill White goes, it's obvious he is willing to sell his identity to gain votes. He tries to appear conservative in his ads, lending any thinking person to know that he is no different in character than Perry.
With ten years of reign under his belt, I doubt anything Guv Perry sez in a debate would shed any light on his agenda. It would just be an opportunity to stick his foot in his mouth, and like you said, he's probably getting re-elected anyway. What's the point?
DWI-Lite:
If you've been drinking, but under the legal limit, you'll beat the rap but you won't beat the ride. This is an attempt by legislators to make money off the deal. If they want to make any kind of impact, make the offenses cumulative. After a number of citations over a certain period of time, the driver is flagged as an habitual "drinker/driver". Subsequent offenses then get bumped up to a more serious charge. Then you go on probation and go into a counseling program
The female cheering section at the game last night was probably the players' mistresses. The wives don't get seats that good

Rangers:
Lets go over my plan from yesterday and see how it worked out.
Okay - Moreland, Murph, and the baserunning didn't really come into play until late in the game, so those points are all a push. The one point that made all those others moot was Cliff Lee. Your remark earlier about Nolan Ryan is somewhat accurate. The difference is that Nolan said "Here's my fastball - see if you can hit it." With Cliff, he has a repertoire of pitches and uses them around every edge of the plate. He says "Here's my 'Guess what's coming' pitch. See if you can figure out where it's gonna be."
8 innings - 2 H - 1 BB - 13Ks
that's playoff pitching right there, folks
Credit to Andy Pettitte - he did an equally nice job...except for one pitch that went yard!
Tonight, I'm hoping the Rangers hitters go all Claw-and-Antler crazy on that punk redneck Burnett.
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if the series ended there tomorrow night
Go Rangers!
Is the Wyly Theater in the Arts District in Paradise?
835 - The "best" people don't run for office. They're too busy accomplishing things in the real world. (The pairing of noblesse oblige with politics went out the window when the media took over politics in 1974.) Ditto 909's comment on Perry and debates.
Vaguely-related-to-today's-post-but-not-really: The creator of Conan (the Barbarian) was from Cross Plains. A bit southwest of Wise County, but still.
I think you misread the Paradise meeting, it was last year.
Wonder why it took the cops so long to notify the man's wife that he was killed in the wrong way crash. Really sad,
What in the world is the mentality of any Republican that would vote for Rick Perry?
Unimaginable!
Bobby V's....that place is worn out and dirty.
It is a pity that Obama overexposes himself on the media. We thank Perry for that for sparing us that.
9:01, I have been a Ranger fan since I was born, not just this entire year so that makes me a more loyal fan than you so you go to the back of the line just in front the people you told to go to the back of the line! The fans older than me who have been fans for life need to tell me to go to the back of the line just in front of you....and the stupidity goes on. By the way my daddy can whip your daddy!
Antoine Dodson is stuck in my head again. Awesome.
So Barry,I guess you never played Battleship? Maybe water Tennis?
10:11
Where the heck did you receive your information about me? I have been a Ranger fan since 1988, so if that makes you more of a fan, so be it. Good for you! I am not focused on whose daddy can whip whose daddy, or if you are stupid. Immaturity never prevails!
It doesn't matter. You're not gonna rain on my parade...
GO RANGERS!!!
(Fan at the front of the line!)
the ranger banwagon will gladly take new memebers each and everyday! It doesnt matter if it took yall awhile to figure out that this team is good. Just hop on and enjoy the ride!!
Life Long Ranger Fan!!!!
11:09...Sarcasm much? I will break it down for you--telling people that were not previously fans, or you feel are jumping on a bandwagon to "get at the end of the line" is silly--are they passing out gifts in this line or something? The "my daddy" line was just to show you that what you are saying is equivelant to saying my daddy can whip your daddy!
I was a Ranger fam before I was born...........
(making stroking hand motion around my waist while rolling my eyes)
Come on now. Lets have a reality check... Gov. Idiot will be re-elected (no matter how we vote) and the Rangers will choke like they always do.
I'm the biggest, baddest Ranger's fan around...Just how big 'a boy are you?? It ain't nothin' for me to whup a man's ass.
9:34 -
I voted for Rick Perry in the primary because I would rather have him than Kay Bailey. She has been in Washington too long and has been overspending while she's been there. I didn't vote for Medina because she had NO chance of winning. I have now voted for Rick Perry in the general election because I did no want another liberal tax and spend democrat messing with out state. The Star Telegram had an article in it last week wherein it talked about how Obama, back in 2007, met with White down in Houston when he was still the mayor. They were obviously cuttin deals and getting everyone on board. White is just an arm of Obama that I definitely don't want running our state. Perry needs to move on, he has been in there too long, but no way in hell would I have voted for White.
As for my mentality, I consider myself to be a conservative with lots of good ol' common sense.
as for dwi lite,,follow the money
I believe in term limits, thus I refuse to vote for ANY politician running for a third term for the same office. People who gritch about lifetime/career politicians and keep voting for a career politician are just as much a part of the problem as are the career politicians.
Term limits are within the control of the electorate. If you believe in term limits, vote like you believe in term limits.
Did the Bridgeport Coach keep his job? I hope the Decatur coach leaves before he talks them into a Turf field. When did high school coaching and sports become so big a deal in life.
11:36
What's the need in beating up the fans that are on your side? Just doesn't make sense!
Come on aboard the Ranger fan train! This train is big enough for all of the Ranger fans! The contest should remain on the baseball field - not on a blog!!!
Leave the condescending attitude behind.
GO RANGERS!!!
12:21
Where is the good ol common sense? You didn't vote for Medina because she couldn't win? No one can win if no one votes for them. Vote like you mean it, not like you just want to be on the winning side. How can any conservative vote for a third term, big government, all intrusive republican or democrat is beyond me. We get what we deserve with attitudes like yours.
"I voted for Rick Perry in the primary because I would rather have him than Kay Bailey. She has been in Washington too long and has been overspending while she's been there."
What? Is Rick Perry some brash newcomer that's gonna turn Austin on it's ear? He's been in office 10 years! Nothing says career politician like going for a 4th term (Bush's unexpired term, 2 reelections and now this).
Wake up Texas! Last time I checked his opponent's name is White, not Obama, and Perry won't even debate him.
It's time to kick Rick out of the renthouse!
Amen mzchief - I couldn't agree more.
Voter apathy may be more for not voting for either candidate than being too lazy to get up and go to the polls.
Frankly, I don't like Perry or White. Two peas in the same pod.
Spend money, get elected and take care of old cronies.
I think Perry has 3 degrees from Harvard. That is why I am voting for him!
I voted for Debra Medina in the primary and I will vote for Bill White in the election. Do I agree with White's policies? NOPE! However, as far as I am concerned, Perry running for a third (full) term makes him ineligible for my vote. Politicians and diapers need to be changed frequently and for the same reason.
If voters REFUSED to vote for a candidate running for a third term, you can bet your last dime, the parties would figure it out and NEVER run a candidate for a third term.
A citizen's vote is the ONLY real voice they have. I am fairly certain, you all have figured out, it is not in my nature to sit, silently, at home when my voice should/needs to be heard.
I have to agree with Albert Einstein's premise: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
What if you do not have voter apathy but you have just really researched all candidates involved in an election and come to the conclusion that none of them are electable?
I would lick her Toe.
At some point we have to put Texas above party. When we know we have an idiot, why hold our nose and vote for him.
I don't like White, or the libertarian, but one will get my vote. The insanity has to stop.
We need the choice of "none of the above" and should that column get the majortiy, all above are disqualified and we start over.
Expensive yes. But the insanity has to stop.
Mz, great quote.
If Texans keep Perry, it'll be due to status quo....weak reason to re-hire anyone.
2:18 - your comment IS insanity.
Perry may have visited Harvard but he has no degrees from there, he's an Aggie.
I voted for Medina in the primary also, but will have to give Perry my vote now.
If I voted for White to keep Perry from a third term it would be idiotic. White has F'ed up all the Police and Fire pensions in Houston. He has spent money they didn't have. He had his thumb up his butt during the hurricanes, and has his head up Obama's already. White and Obama are on the same page as far as where they want to take this country and I wont be a party to THAT just to make a point about TERM limits.
Uh-Nuh! I am a Di-Hard Ranger fan..... Hoof and Plow.....or what ever the hell it is.
Remember voting a straight party ticket is how you people got ol Tom Bishop as constable can you live with that Fake D.Hudson your next Constable
To anonymous 6:36...
Sounds as though you have done an excellent job of listening to the commercials put out by the Perry campaign.
It seems as though you have failed to realize, Perry has had his thumb up his arse for the past 10 years with regard to the illegal alien issue. There is an 18 BILLION dollar shortfall in the Texas budget and Perry is STILL Hell bent on the trans-Texas Highway.
Perry has ALWAYS been a politician but not always a republican. Yep! PRick Erry was a democrat before he realized his political career would be better off if he switched the "D" for an "R" and said he was a republican. Bill White has been a successful lawyer and CEO of an energy, construction and real estate company. I like the idea of giving a businessman a shot at running Texas rather than being taken for a ride by a career politician.
You are willingly doing the same thing over and over and over and you think someone who is willing to make a change, in an attempt to get ride of some rotten politician, is idiotic.
Hmmm...I am fairly certain, being called idiotic by someone who meets Albert Einstein's criteria of being insane really does not matter.
I noticed you went the dodge route wen you re-car'ed.Hope you enjoy their parts service better than me.Instead of a six dollar seal that they can't furnish I bought an almost five hundred drive line. They're excuse;(we don't have much luck fixing those things).Really!Refused to give me an area manager's phone number. He was probably out for a smoke/beer break. break
FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD PEOPLE, YOU ARE PAYING FOR PERRY'S SUBSCRIPTION TO "FOOD AND WINE" MAGAZINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS MORE ASININE THAN K2 IN DECATUR!
How did Gov. Perry become a millionaire working for Taxpayers?
mZcHIEF
6:36 HERE. Wow. What can I say? You swayed me. I am voting for White now!
NOT!
mzCreant
Nice rhetoric FAIL.
Obviously you have watched and believed the commercials of White.
They are both turd politicians, but at least Dick Harry doesn't have his head up BO's arse.
