Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • I have no idea what happened to www.wisecounty.com yesterday. It came back up around 6:00 p.m. (It's been hosted by the same company for 13 years.)
  • Teddy Pendergrass has died. I can't think of a single song of his.
  • What a mess in Haiti. What a horrible, horrible mess.
  • It's weird to have a Cowboy game of this magnitude on the horizon. I'm not giddy like I was in the 1990s, but I'm interested.
  • Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck on the same show last night? I now know what water boarding is like.
  • It may be gone by now, but at the top of the Drudge Report yesterday there was a link to "Video: Dog bolts from office before quake" buried amongst links for Haiti information. But the story found by following the link says the video is from North Carolina, not Haiti. (And that may not even be true since it the video references a town in California.)
  • The motorcycle cop in Arlington died while trying to stop a speeder? And didn't a metroplex agency abandon motorcycles altogether because of the inherent danger?
  • I don't care anything about American Idol but I stopped by it last night for a few seconds to see a very country girl from Tennessee try out. I'll admit, that was touching.
  • AnObiter's mother said she felt uncomfortably "privileged" in going to see a movie on a weekday morning. AnObiter didn't understand. I sure do.
  • I saw yesterday in the Update there was to be a benefit for a lady who needs a liver replacement. It's an odd phenomenon that tens of thousands will be given to local churches this weekend, but very few will donate to help out a particular individual in need.
  • The Sid Richardson Boy Scout ranch trial is still going on in Decatur. (I've found out it involves a finger injury during a canoe trip onto Lake Bridgeport.) I'll say this: That trial has had the hottest witnesses in the history of ever.
  • I like the photos of the Messenger's Joe Duty except when he has student athletes pose like they are some type of conquerors.
  • If Kay Bailey Hutchison would say at tonight's governor's race debate: "The job really has no power and looks like a a pretty cushy gig", I'd vote for her.
  • I'm not a basketball fan so maybe that explains why a "monster dunk" in the NBA over a player standing flat footed trying to draw a charge makes it into ESPN's Top 10 Plays Of The Day. That really doesn't seem impressive to me.
  • Holy, cow: Did you see the story/video of the store owner in Frisco who said, “In the name of Jesus, I command you to get out of my store right now" when confronted with a robber sticking a gun in her face? I appreciate her faith, but I wonder what her customer was thinking when the gunman turned and pointed the gun at her.

As a liberal winnie, I feel much better for Texas now that there is competetion for a place at the public trough (KBH vs Perry)

Even at the county level there is competition for a chance to profit from my taxes (salary, travel, car, expenses)

My real hope is that I will live long enough for a third party or independent to join the fray. Only then will things get better.

Have you noticed since Palin isn't running for office, just making money, she isn't dragging those poor kids around for photo ops.

"The word around the courthouse" is that the people suing the Boy Scouts got "nuttin'". A Massachusetts jury might have stuck it to the BSA because they don't let openly atheistic boys into the BSA, but you better not "mess with 'em" here in Texas!! Didn't sound like a real strong case on more than one element. actually.

Just a thought, counselor. If "very few" give to help an individual, then it would be pointless to hold benefits, wouldn't it? Your comment regarding church donations indicates that tens of thousands of local churchgoers make charitable giving a habit, an integral part of their lives. Are you scorning this?

Upon hearing Palin would be on Fox, my first thought was that she wouldn't last long before she embarassed them with her shallowness.

What was I thinking? A channel that isn't embarassed by the likes of Beck and o Reilly can't be embarassed.

I continue to find it amusing how crazy Palin makes you guys.

In related news, how about that poll showing vast Obama voters' regrets? Apparently they found out from his actions over the last year that Obama is shallow ("all sizzle and no steak,") woefully inexperienced (international relations, anyone?) and not up to the challenge intellectually. "Empty suit" is how the Daily Kos described him in 2008. Turns out they were right. 2010 and 2012 are looking better all the time.

Water boarding would be mild next to Bob Bekel and Chris Matthews together.

Teddy Pendergrass song, the only one I know, was from the 1980s called "Love TKO".

LETS TAKE A POLL!

OF THOSE WHO REMEMBER TEDDY PENDERGRASS, WHO "SCORED" OR "GOT BUSY" WHEN "LOVE TKO" WAS BEING PLAYED ON THE RADIO? TEDDY PENDERGRASS SANG THE BEST GET NAKED SONGS OF ALL TIMES. HE'LL BE MISSED!

I'VE BEEN GETTING WATER-BOARDED EVER SINCE OBAMA TOOK OFFICE AND CONTINUE TO GET WATER-BOARDED EVERY TIME PELOSI AND REID OPEN THEIR MOUTHS. SAD PART IS, THEY'LL STOP THEIR WATER-BOARDING METHOD IN ABOUT THREE MONTHS AND THE ENTIRE COUNTRY WILL BE GETTING AN ENEMA. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! GLAD YOU GUY'S VOTED FOR THE IDIOT.

Good point 8:38 AM! If people would follow more of the teachings of the Bible, these types of situations would be taken care of through their local fellowships.

Glad to hear you are still keeping up with Fox News! Funny that you seldom reference the liberal weiner stations, so I take that as a GOOD sign!

The KINGS approval rating is still on the way DOWN! Real Americans are finally waking up and taking note of just what this joker is doing to our country!

Not sure why you're fixated on Haiti...worlds away. I haven't given it a minute's thought till every day you continue to talk about it.

As for donations, I agree with you. I much prefer to pick and choose to whom I donate my money, which I do on a regular basis, but NOT to organized religion. I feel it's much safer and I KNOW where the money goes and I KNOW the people need it. Donations to a church are like throwing money in the wind, as you have no idea where it's going.

I had the same thought about the store robber story. If I'd been that customer, I'd have told the owner to speak for herownself and comply with the dude. Ridiculous, but she lucked out with the outcome....once in a million.

i agree about the sports photo - especially knowing that the cute-as-a-button little ward girl isnt more than 5-foot-4.
speaking of sports, i was the wcm would not had cut back all their coverage from years passed when it was a huge section twice a week.
teddy pender? um, i think i will be able to sleep at night knowing i can live without this guy.
ok BG, you talked me into to - must.go.to.trial.to.see.those.chicks.

You found a young lady with Barbie measurements.

Did you see where Pat Robertson blamed the devastation in Haiti on a deal Haitians made with the devil 200 years ago? Search youtube. Amazing.

10:17, To donate to Haiti, just do like Obammy says and go to Whitehouse.gov. That way you know exactly where your money is going.

Turns out GWB and Palin are lots smarter than the current idiot in chief. Who would have thunk it?

A really tall person being able to dunk is about as meaningful an accomplishment as a little person who can really limbo.

Anonymous said...

BG, you need to start having your readers send in the "Thought for the Day" picks.
Either that or you need to cut WAY back on the hootch.
WHEW!!!!!!!!

Barry,
Why try to make people feel guilty about not donating to a lady who "supposedly" needs a liver replacement? Her liver is only enlarged and does not require surgery. She is needing money for a weight loss surgery. Some pretty important facts have been left out of the snippet in the Update. If I could get someone to donate the money for me to have weight loss surgery, I would be one of the first people to sign up for that. I do believe they have payment plans for weight loss surgery though, so why need someone to donate the money for you?
