What a surprise. The Democrat-controlled committee passed a Democrat bill. And now they have Liberal Republican Olivia Snowe as a "bipartisan" cover. She must have got a very good price for her support. Her money's on the dresser.
WOOT WOOT! Republican Snowe crosses party lines and votes "yes" for health reform! 14-9 I believe was the vote! I guess all Republicans aren't brainless! Go Olympia - you rock!
Paid for by cuts in Medicare Re-imbursement and taxes on insurance companies....What brainless idiot actually thinks this will work? It will come down to this....those that get up in the morning and go to work will pay for all those who don't.
3:22, I am perfectly fine with the top notch plan and medical care I DO receive, why would I want a change? I am lucky enough to have a plan through my job that is better than I could have been "provided" by the government. When I had to pay for my own it was just as good, but I had to PAY for it.
I just pray Obama doesn't get rid of the SSI provisions. Helped pay for my son to be born and stay in the NICU for 6 weeks. The government pays anything insurance doesn't if the child is born with certain disabilities or under a certain weight. But since that COULD also help those with good insurance, it is probably gone.
Just remember, to all who worry about tax dollars being spent to save U.S. lives, we could have funded health care for all U.S. citizens for the tax money we are spending killing people overseas.
OK, I get that you insured people don't want to give up what you got. No one said you had to. I have been without insurance for 5 months now and I pray to the FSM that I don't get sick.
The last job I had was working for a Texas based company that made Instruments or some such. Each year our premiums and deductibles went up, and our choices got worse.
mzchief, I am glad that you can afford health care for you and yours, that's great. It is a shame that your premium went up 2k last year. This is why we need reform. Where will it stop? 2K this year and next and next...
When I get another job, I will have health care again. If the government offers a plan, I will join and if I can afford it, I will supplement that basic health care with a another plan that I will pay extra for.
I want the government to FORCE the insurance companies to tighten up their ship. (2K increase in a year???)I know and have worked with and for many foreigners and they are appalled at our health care here in the US. I know some of you have read horror stories concerning long waiting times and various other anecdotal evidence concerning European health care, but the facts are in black and white concerning the level of care given to the average citizen over there vs here.
Remember, you can supplement if you can afford it, I just want to live in a country where people do not have to make life or death health care decisions based on money.
Next: If insurance companies are forced to provide coverage regardless of preexisting conditions, what will people do? Maybe wait unti they're sick to get insurance, hmmm? If the government puts a cap on rates, how will insurance companies cover their expenses, hmmm? If insurance companies can't cover their expenses, how will they stay in business, hmmm? If insurance companies go out of business, where will we obtain insurance, hmmm? That "keep your own insurance" claim starts to look a little thin, doesn't it? (Along with all the other outrageous claims made by Obama and other Democrats.) Get ready for unionized healthcare.
Wish I would have known how this country was going to evolve politically back when I was wasting my time and money on college and pursuing a career that paid well. Soon, my extra will simply be lopped off and given to those that went the opposite way I did. Nice. But if I go ahead and drop out now, and so do all the folks like me, THEN who has the extra that the tens of millions of freeloaders are demanding as their "right" to everything?
To K1p... I grew up in the U.K. and am deaf in my right ear because it took 4 months to get to see a specialist after I was hit in the ear with a cricket bat when I was a child. That was over 30 years ago. Trust me, I know about the craptastic health care offered in the U.K. I still have family in France and know that French government's health care only covers 60-80% of health care fees which means about 90% of the population has a supplement policy that costs about $6,000 a year on top of the 60% income taxes EVERYONE pays in France. Before you start spewing your anecdotal BS get some FACTS.
One of the reasons my insurance premiums sky rocket is because hospital costs keep going up because 20,000+ illegal aliens think nothing of seeking medical care for which they have no expectation of paying. The dregs of U.S. society keep having children for whom they cannot pay and force people who do have insurance to pay higher health care costs. If someone cannot afford to pay for the child to whom they are giving birth, the female and male should BOTH be sterilized to prevent them from producing anymore children they cannot afford. Trust me, if people HONESTLY believed they would have to suffer the consequences of their actions, they would be far more cautious about their actions. Responsible people who can only afford one child make the effort it takes to have JUST ONE! so there is no reason a responsible society should not make certain that people who cannot afford the child they have only have JUST ONE.
EVERYONE who works for a living trades the minutes of their life for a paycheck. That being the case, a person who earns $1,000 per day/$240,000 per year pays %36/$86,400 in personal federal income tax or nearly 3 months of their life. A person who earns $125 per day/$30,000 per year pays 0%/NOTHING in personal federal income tax or ZERO days of their life. Why should someone who earns a good living, pays their own way and has NEVER been a burden on society be required to SLAVE for nearly 3 months each year when 50% of tax payers and the majority of whom TAKE resources are not required to slave for even a day?
People who do not pay into society should not be permitted to take and take and take from society. Not only is it UNJUST it is UNETHICAL.
First time some relative of mine gets denied a treatment and they die or they die waiting in line for some procedure that Obamacare rations...I am going to hunt down the government worker who made the decision....one less bureaucrat.
Health care providers are saying insurance companies are not paying timely or not paying claims since Obama started the health care reform bill. It is going to get really crazy.
Insurance companies will make their profits by cutting reimbursements to medical providers until there is nothing left by the public option.
Patients can't expect their medical providers to give care and operate at a loss. How many businesses could operate waiting months for payment or partial payment? Or offer care and have reimbursment denied completely.
The bill forces doctors into the public option with more reporting to the government. Paper work will take away from time with the patient.
For people without health care, there should be a way to offer a basic plan health care at an affordable rate.
The bill passed today was written by Well Point, who keeps about 20% of premiums while giving employees bonuses for denying treatment to sick people. Insurance companies have bought Washington so it is doubtful anything good will come out of the bill until the voters start holding congress accountable.
Ahem... The mere fact the likes of 8:44 supports ObamaCare is reason enough for every intelligent American to do everything possible to defeat ObamaCare.

The bride is the daughter of the late Roy and Ruth Williams of Boyd.
The groom is the son of the late Jack and Rose Garfunkel of Queens, N.Y.
The wedding party rendezvoused at Central Park Boathouse where guests were provided boats and encouraged to row to Bow Bridge. Vows were spoken beneath the cast iron architecture of this famous bridge. Guests were then invited to idly explore the lake.
Leah Czechowicz was matron of honor, and Art Garfunkel was best man. The Rev. Moore was also the soloist.
A reception hosted by the groom was at The Park Room at Helmsley Park Lane Hotel overlooking Central Park.
The bride attended Boyd High School and Tarrant County College.
The groom received a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Queens College, CUNY, New York in 1969. He received an honorary doctorate in technology in 1992 from De Montfort University in Leicester, United Kingdom, and in 2005, he received a master of science in computers in education at Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y.
He is a specialist in learning systems design and technology and is recognized as a leading authority in the field of international computer standards and programming languages. He is retired.
The couple plan a spring trip to the French Riviera, and they live in Woodstock.
My cousin,a born Frenchman who lives in Nerac France is now retired fron a nurseing career has not one bad thing to say about she and her husbands care. Both have had back surgey she has had cancer. She said that there was no waiting. She also enjoys American citizenship. They moved over here about fifteen years ago then moved back when they could'nt afford insurance.DAGO

The National Taxpayers Union has charts indicating which group pays what and that should eliminate the need for any reading if reading is not your strong suit.

Even though no one called me on my personal anecdotal tale here is the United Kingdoms Department of Health's link supporting my experience.
Mzchief: You stated they pay ZERO PERCENT in your original post. All your source links indicate they do pay, albeit a small amount, which is exactly what 11:27 stated. 2.89% does not equal 0%.
We are listening to the Congressional Budget Office.
It's idiots like you who think the federal government is going to fix the system while they rape and pilage it!
Feel free to take your own advice and SHUT THE HELL UP, unless you have want to come up with the $500 million they're gonna cut Medicare. I will listen to you then.
Why do all the right-wing nutz oppose the health reforms BECAUSE it may mean cuts in some Medicare? I thought Medicare was a commie plot. the VA, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security - all vast government programs. How are they different from a government option for health care? Get real. Get consistent.
I see myself purchasing a supplemental health insurance policy IN ADDITION TO the health insurance policy I will be required to buy through the government, thus making health insurance as much as 50% higher than if they would have left it alone...
To anonymous 9:23... The cuts to Medicare are unfair because people have been REQUIRED to pay 2.04 percent of what they earn to pay for medicare. Incidentally, EVERYONE who takes Social Security is REQUIRED to use Medicare as their health insurer even if they are covered, by a better policy, under their employer/prior employer. There goes the BS promise of people having a CHOICE when it comes to the government getting involved in the public's health insurance.

What a surprise. The Democrat-controlled committee passed a Democrat bill. And now they have Liberal Republican Olivia Snowe as a "bipartisan" cover. She must have got a very good price for her support. Her money's on the dresser.
So, what are the odds I have no health insurance this time next year? Or a much inferior plan?

Okay...let's take the only successful industry left in the U.S. and ruin it.
The 2-party system of government is broken. Strict term limits and creation of a third independent party is necessary.

Vox populi!
Well the insurance industry certainly is profitble.
The joke of this is that the govt is going to require the poor to sign up with these guys and subsidize it.
This one may make Farm Subsidies look small.
Those who have are so short sighted. You may not have when your job disappears......ask a few GM workers.
I would settle for tight govt control of the insurance industry.
They have had their hand in the cookies jar too long.
And yes, I own their stock.
First, it's Olympia, not Olivia. Mea culpa.

I know, that's not much money and it won't affect the health care of the elderly, so I guess it's just a question of semantics.
