Random Monday Morning Thought

  • I had my school dream last night. This time I was desperately running from Bridgeport to Decatur to get to class.
  • The Cowboys, despite the win, are simply bad. Really bad.
  • Texas is only a 1 1/2 point favorite over Oklahoma. Hot Sports Prediction: Oklahoma wins.
  • I'm still a fan of Fox 4's Fiona Gorostiza. And I would have made her the co-anchor of the morning show.
  • The White House Communications Director said on Sunday that Fox News "is not a news organization like CNN."
  • Noticed this morning at the Shell Station across from James Wood: A trooper, a Denton County Sheriff, and Decatur police officer all getting gas.
  • I've heard the phrase "off the snide" about 20 times in the last month. I know what it means (to get on the right track) but I really don't know what "snide" means.
  • I like watching TV football more when it's cold where I am.
  • Great new PeopleOfWalmart page.
  • Anytime someone in the news "is here with his lawyer" on a morning show, I power down.
  • U2 is at Cowboys Stadium tonight and Channel 8 said there were still $30 "party passes" available.
  • Miss Pregnant Contest.
  • There was a story over the last few days about a golfer who had his arm bit off by an alligator. All I can think about is Carl Weathers character in Happy Gilmore.
  • Oprah is at the State Fair -- I bet she has an entourage like nobody's business. (Photo that kind of proves it.)
  • I can't stand "throw back" uniforms. It's simply unstable to see the Kansas City coach wearing a "Dallas Texans" jacket while playing Dallas.
  • I finally made it to Flip's over the weekend. That place is huge. That place is packed.
  • I bought a lottery ticket on Saturday -- first time in about a year.
  • Heard a couple of people that have said Obama should accept the Noble Peace Prize "on behalf of the U.S. military." That doesn't make any sense to me.

The Cowboys are BAD i completely agree with you!!!!!!

Putting a cowboy hat on Oprah is like putting a goat in a tuxedo - unnatural! That's the height of pandering, but the hausfraus eat that stuff up
Speaking of eating...I bet she gets her quota of fried butter

Barry, I love reading your blog, don't get me wrong, but isn't there more to life than blogging and twittering? Sometimes I feel really bad for you.

Yup,the Cowboys suck, and shouldn't they give Dallas there name back, or did the mighty Jerry purchase the city name? Don't blast me,just asking, but Arlington Cowboys would suck too,so what should it be?

Aside from the cameraman and light guy, Oprah's entourage numbered about 20. She also had at least 4 DPD officers within 100 feet of her at least two of whom were SWAT.

BG, if you won the lotto would you still keep this blog? I hope so.

A LOT of the peeps from the peopleofwalmart.com were from Texas.

A distressing number actually, the more I think about it.

In response to 8:37, is life really worthwhile without Barry's blog? I think not. Like eating the Ortolan Bunting, something deliciously decadent which you do not admit in public or amongst refined people.

More candid camera shots at Wal-Mart are really making me think Decatur may be next. The women do not know about the plus size bras, panties or big mama shirts since they are exposing way too much looking more like fat hookers than shoppers. And the men who look like they are trying to cross dress or half cross dress leave me speechless.

What is going on in America? Do all the very worst dress folks go to Wal-Mart to buy junk food and shop at garage sales?

Next time I run to Walmart, I'm going to make sure I change the culture by wearing something that fits, covers up what doesn't look good and apply my make-up.

And we want to provide health care for all who are going to need it since they will have heart trouble, diabetes and skin cancer from exposure?

And I can remember the day we wore white gloves and hats!

Give me a throw-back jersey anyday over the completely-gay-baby-blue-special-event jersey that Jerry rolled out a few years back. Larry, Darrell and Darrell (a/k/a my other brother Darrell) used to run a company called "Anything for a Buck". I think they must have fired their other brother Jerry...$30.00 party pass, give me a break.

You just have an unhealthy fascination with local news reporters. That's all there is. Never seen anything like it.

Funny story, I was the vo on most of of the promos for Fox News Channel that ran over...their regular vo guy was not available Friday...then late last night, I got a refriend request from the Lubbock GOP.

The phrase is "off the schneid."

I wanted Krystle Gutierrez to get the anchor spot. She did a good job during her extended summer run, plus she's beautiful.

I think Fiona is better suited to be on her feet with room to improv. Sticking her behind the desk might rob her of some of her appeal.

From SI.com:
"Where does "getting off the schneid" come from?

Answer: The term comes from gin rummy. In that game, a "schneider" or "schneid" is when one prevents an opponent from scoring a point in a game or match. In sports, the "schneid" has become a general term for being scoreless, winless, hitless or other unsavory "-less" states. Thus when one achieves that first run, point, win, hit, etc., one is said to have "gotten off the schneid." The actual word originates from the German and Yiddish term schneider, for one who cuts cloth, i.e. a tailor. Sadly, we could find no proven link to the handyman from One Day at a Time."

That phrase -- "off the snide/schneid" -- is one I've never heard before in my life. I need to spend more time on the internet.

We got great seats this morning online at Ticketmaster for U2 - lowest section -
1lth row, near the stage. They were $250 each, but I hear the stage U2 uses, the arena alone will be worth the price of admission -
And then there's just seeing U2 put on their always excellent show - priceless.
If you're interested, they must have released some good seats today. They often do that on the day of the concert.

I can't believe our white house was trying to compare CNN with Fox News. CNN is SO FAR BEHIND it stinks. What are they thinking? I am glad to know they acknowledge them. Most Americans do!!!!

Barry, what truly doesn't make sense about King obama gets the Nobel is his current SUPPORT of the war in Iraq, and studying the possibility of sending more troops overseas. He blows my mind, and so does this selection committee -- GIVE ME A BREAK!

Anonymous said...

I agree with 10:29 that Krystle shouyld be the anchor woman.

Anonymous said...

Speaking of anchor woman, isnt that Cynthia Izaguirre (Channel 8's Morning Anchor) trying to get a peek of Oprah? Shameful

Barry, I was at Flips on friday also. I was the drunk one-remember? That place is really big.

"Off the schneid" is a term used in sports that means to end a losing streak.

I tend to be more "smug" than "snide." However, thank you for thinking about me.

Regarding Obama and Fox News, how does the First Amendment stand when the White House uses taxpayer money to attack an individual news organization? The majority of the media attacked Bush much more viciously for eight years. You have to go back to Nixon to find an administration that did anything remotely similar. Does the "they attacked him first" defense hold water when it comes to the President violating the Bill of Rights? (The "abridging the freedom of the press" part.)
