Talking Baby Daddies and Baby Mommas

I think the following is shocking:
  • 40% of all births in 2007 were out of wedlock.
  • Random thought: "wedlock" is a funny word.
  • That's an amazing 25% increase in the last five years
  • The race breakdown in terms of percentage of all births is White: 25%, Hispanic: 51%, and Black: 72%

...and medicaid pays for a large percentage of these births!

What? 25+51+72=148%!! Somebody has been busy. I guess octomom was included in the survey.

Does this really shock anyone. I enjoy taking a bastard count every week in the Wise County Messenger.

8:43, I am not a math major, but I am guessing they mean 25% of White births are out of wedlock. 51% of Hispanic ar out of wedlock, and 72% of black births are out of wedlock. (dang it has gone too far, typing black births made me wonder about poilitical correctness).

Thanks 8:56. I did figure that out, unfortunately, after reading the article and after sending the comment in. Any way you figure, that's a lot of babies! It would be interesting to see how the percentages of cohabitant pregnancies compare to wham-bam-thankyouma'am pregnancies break down by race. Also how many of the dad's are around when the baby is born, by race.

As long as we keep enabling these people it's never going to stop.

There are these girls/women that don't get married so they can have the government pay all the bills. The baby is on medicaid for a year after that for free. Why should they get married? Come on and take a free ride.........

Who dat is? That's just my baby daddy.

Anonymous said...

8:44, that is HILARIOUS!

I, too, am shocked by the number of unwed births that appear in the Messupper each week:(

Anonymous said...

9:19, me too.
Seems like a lot of people are skipping the marriage but having kids in anyway. And if they are committed to each other and then the kid then perhaps that is okay.

Anonymous said...

9:19 - and we encourage people to live together. I've even heard a minister say why marry to legitimize what is already going on.

Good point. Trade the back seat of a car for a good bed.

R & R - Preach on, sister. The best way to stop something is to stop paying for it.

Anonymous said...

And yet it's the child...the only innocent person in the whole situation...that's labeled.

Anonymous said...

8:43 am must be one of those minority breeders with math skills like that. Are there enough roofs to keep these people employed?

Anonymous said...

Wedlock sounds soo oppressive.

Anonymous said...

And figure for those kids that are born to wed parents, approximately 50% of those marriages will end in divorce. And that rate seems to be going up.

Anonymous said...

Should probably start subsidizing abortion.

Anonymous said...

A yeah lets say its ok to murder.Dont think so!!!

Statistics like this say things more powerfully then generic talking head on the news or net.

And the only sure thing is that ultimately my taxes (MY taxes Mr. IRS bloodsucker) will pay for it.

The only people who WANT to get married these days are Gay!

The Conservative Evangelical Christians have made it their mission to prevent gay marriage while failing to support marriage among heterosexuals. Ironically, according to the Barna Research Group, Conservative Christians themselves have significantly higher divorce rates.

Now, more people support Gay Marriage, fewer heterosexuals getting married and fewer people are attending church.

Seems like it may be time for Evangelicals to reevaluate their strategy.

11:13 Abortion is not murder. A woman has a right to do with her body as she wishes. Quit listening to conservative/Christian talk radio.

1116 - Interesting take on illegitimate births -- almost irrelevant to the topic. Ironically, according to the actual information from Barna (the group that did the research): "Among the population segments with the lowest likelihood of having been divorced subsequent to marriage are Catholics (28%), evangelicals (26%)...and those who deem themselves to be conservative on social and political matters (28%)."

Among the groups with the most prolific experience of marriage ending in divorce are "those aligned with a non-Christian faith (38%) and people who consider themselves to be liberal on social and political matters (37%)."

Hard to align those facts, taken from the original research group using current research (it may be time to reevaluate your website's data,) with your anti-Christian screed.

The reason for the higher percentages in 2007 is because 2007 was the biggest baby boom of all time!!!! Duhhhhh

They're called condoms, and they exist for a reason.

Facetious, Completely said...

11:30 Yeah - I'm with you. It's just like gettin' a tat, or a piercing, or a breast augmentation, or a face lift, isn't it? It's one of her inalienable rights endowed by the Creator. These crazy people that consider an abortion to be ending a precious life are just unbalanced wackos, aren't they? Help me out, here. They've just been spending too much time studying "the big book of myths and fables", haven't they? Yeah, that's what I think. Duuuhh.

12:25 if you believe in the Bible and you believe that abortion is murder then don't get an abortion. There are a lot of folks out there (and the number continues to grow by the way) who don't have a problem with it.

11:30, the only reason that a woman has the right to do with her body as she wishes is because her mother chose not to abort her.

Anonymous said...

Only non-aborted people grow up to be in favor of abortion.

Anonymous said...

Wow....how 'bout that good ole republican double standard. You guys are saying to stop paying for the kids.....wait a
Minute......the kids are innocent here. What about sanctity of life? If someone wanted to abort them, you'd be all up in the air about it. But once they are born you guys don't give a damn if they starve or get sick...all because you are pissed off at the parents. Come on.....get a grip.

Anonymous said...

It is not just the mom's fault, lots of "dads" don't step up to the plate and help out or marry the person THEY got pregnant. I know it takes two, but get real people....

How many kids in your high school are pregnant or actively having sex? The number would surprise you. Maybe they need to have a "sex education" class -- not carry a baby (doll that is like a real baby) around for a week/month but explain how that baby got to where it is today!

Anonymous said...

You all are giving me tired head. Married parents don't make the child better off. Trust me; I would have been better off if my mom would have gone at it alone. I also know people who have lived together for years, planned their illegitimate children, pay taxes and have medical insurance. You can't lump everyone in the same category. Come on people the RIGHTS we have to choose to live differently is why this country is "free." There are LOTS of people that make bad choices for whatever reason and some continue to do so. That doesn't mean that everyone from Wise County (even the dogs) are stupid, racist &/or on meth. Get a grip! (WOW, I feel better!)

Thank you LBJ and the great society. To be pro-choice you first have to be born.

moma247 said...

It is truly amazing how many people have the automatic opinion that most of the children in this study are "welfare babies". Click on the link and read the article, that's not the main focus. So, to all the hollier than thou commenters, drop the song and dance. Single women are capable of having children and NOT being on welfare. Most of you probably have had sex without marriage and were lucky enough to have the birth control measures taken work (another shock is that sometimes they don't). Realize that some people would rather choose to have a child out of wedlock than to rush into a marriage because of pregnancy just to have it fail and put that child through the pain of a divorce. That being the only reason, not to get welfare, not because they can't find the daddy, but by choice. I know, it's a shocking idea isn't it. The world is changing and single mom doesn't necessarily mean welfare recipient anymore...simply amazing.

M-M said...

11:30 Wow, that's a new one, but it's false. It's not her body that gets chopped up and thrown away. It's called post-conception birth control. She's not doing it to her body, it's happening to the baby's body.

M-M said...

Maybe Obama was right, that we are not a Christian nation. It certainly seems as though we don't live by Christian principles very well.

I am personnaly for abortion ...keeps the liberal population down.

Matter of fact I think they should make it mandatory for pro-choice people...perhaps even make it retroactive.

Anonymous said...

Well put, moma247!

Anonymous said...

No it is not the "baby's body". the "baby's body" would "die" if it didn't have the "mom's body" to support it.

Anonymous said...

Phillip, that could go another way. Rid the world of religious fanatics.

They are just as dangerous as over the top libs.

M-M said...

3:58 Nice logic. A baby after birth needs support through care and feeding and would die without it, is it still the mother's body?
Anatomically, they have separate blood supplies. The baby's body is not the mom's body and it's the baby's body that ends up in the dumpster in the back alley.

When parents decide to teach their children abstainance instead of throwing a "coming of age party" for their kid maybe the unwed teen pregnancy rate will drop. Or teach the little boogers how to wrap it up! Instead of just not worrying about it.

Anonymous said...

4:28 and a baby doesn't have name or a SSN until it is born.

Nevertheless, if somehow Roe v. wade was overturned, affluent people would just fly to another country where they could get their abortions. That is a fact. So all you pro-lifers on your little life saving crusade, going to get our Country back to its family values ways, will never, repeat never, accomplish your goal of stopping/preventing/deterring Americans from getting abortions. Well maybe the poor ones...

M-M said...

5:07 A lot of babies are named by their parents before birth, but I'm not sure what a name and SSN after birth have to do with whose body they are. Are you saying a baby is not their own body until they have a name and SSN? You are a little wacko here in your logic. Come on, you can do better than that.

As to the second part of your ranting... we shall see.

Speaking of life and death, all you liberal weenies are praising your annointed leader for giving the orders to snipe the pirtates. But had they been captured and brought to trial, the bleeding hearts would have pushed for a life sentence for them. How can you be more hypocritical? Kind of applies to life or death for an innocent baby doesn't it?

Anonymous said...

I'm pro-death.

Here's my question. If 40 or more years ago, couples ( and I'm talking about most all couples) could date, become boyfriend/girlfriend and not have a baby until after their marriage, then WHY IS THAT IMPOSSIBLE TO DO TODAY????? Is it because we have NO morals, values? Is it because the majority of parents today are drug sucking, dead heads who don't give a flying flip about setting proper examples for their children and others? WHY is it impossible to go back to a world of good manners, impeccable morals and high standards, and having babies AFTER WEDLOCK?

Anonymous said...

Forty years ago those that could afford it had their second and even their third apendectomy. The rest went to help an ailing aunt or grandma. Some few kept their babies and thrir heads down;Edna took care of the rest.I like you probably made it on pure dumb luck. DAGO
