Have all McDonalds always charged a 50 cent dine in TAX on their orders? First time I noticed it yesterday when I stopped in Decatur for a quick snack.I guess they get your money one way or the other.
Considering I haven't been inside a McDonald's in 15 years, I have no idea. But the masses must know the answer.

There is some guy on YouTube who made a video fussing about the McDonalds here in Decatur (yes....Decatur, Texas). I think he lives in Decatur. Maybe he will make a YouTube video about this.

They should pay the customer $50 just for eating their crap.
But I have made money by buying their stock - even when the market tanked late last year - on their ability to make fat people even fatter.
They charge a tax for drive up window also.

Isn't a "tax" something collected by the vendor and distributed to the government? And if so, if McDonalds charges that, then why doesn't Whataburger, Taco Bell, etc.? This smells more like greed than tax, because the true tax they collect is the 8.45% the slap on the end of your purchase.
Never eat in a McDonalds, good way to get very sick. They do not sanitize their serving trays. The low cost illegal labor wipes the trays with a damp rag. Look around you at the people in there the next time you dine in. Their hands and body fluids are all over their trays that will only be wiped with a damp cloth. Who will get the tray next? Don't give me crap about bleach in the water that they put the wiping towels in.
Its just your normal tax. They just code if you are eating out or drive through get coded there.
I've never had anyone force me to eat at McDonald's. Is that happening there in Wise County? Is McDonald's working secretly with local law enforcement to round people up and shove fatty foods down the throats of innocent victims?
You folks are a bunch of idiots, with the exception of 11:39. I am guessing the price of the meal the ordered was $6.60 assuming a 7.5% sales tax. Anything you can get at MickyD's for $6.60 doesn't qualify as a quick snack!!!
I agree with 11:54 and 12:12. If you don't like it, don't eat there and you won't have to worry about a few cents either way. Some people get worked up about the dumbest things.
It just boggles me that so many on this blog want to pontificate on that which they know nothing.
If anyone (Barry included) wanted to actually get an answer to this, a simple phone call to McDonalds would be in order. Go to the source? Naaw! It's just easier to just contribute some more blather.

Dear person who thinks McDonald's charges a sit down tax on your order, you are incorrect on two fronts. One, there's no such tax. And two, McDonald's does NOT have to "get your money one way or the other". Some people have figured out the secret to preventing McDonald's from getting their money. I'm not making this up. It's true. I'll let you take it from there. Good luck, hope you find the secret.

the sales tax for all of decatur is 8.25%. any more would be illegal.

The reason it is coded “Eat In Tax” is because some areas of this great country have a different sales tax for Eat In or To Go orders. In Decatur the tax is the same just how it is labeled is different. We did this on purpose to test the intelligence of our customers.

Ronald McDonald is correct. Because it was labeled "eat in tax" and totalled to exactly 50 cents made it look like an eat in surcharge. However, notice that there is no sales tax listed. So, that eat in tax must be the sales tax. Since Mr. McDonald did the calculations for us, we can see that it is the sales tax.

I have not eaten at the Decatur McDonalds in years. In fact, due to their poor service, I don't visit ANY McDonalds anywhere. I'm assuming if their headquarters has no concern for the poor quality of service here in Decatur, they have no concern for poor quality of service anywhere else. (And Decatur's lacking has been reported.) Chicken Express is also about to lose another customer if I get home one more time without my complete order. They can sure BILL the complete order but they cannot fill it. Ineptness.

It seems like this entire post was a giant waste of time. I thought I'd contribute my $.50...er... $.02 to the massive argument about what turned out to be regular old sales tax.

Couldn't help but notice that the person who sent in the reciept paid with almost exact change. I'll bet this person is overly anal on just about everything. Perhaps the tax is to cover the refills on the softdrink that I'll just bet happens on every trip, the extra napkins that make it to the trash unused etc. Someone has to pay for your waste, why not you!The "it's not costing me anything" attitude that most people seem to have costs us all in the end. Or so it seems.
They could save millions if they wouldn't use a whole bottle of mayo or ketchup on a single hamburger. Gets all over your shirt when you're trying to drive down the road eating...
Also, why not give each person a couple of packets of ketchup with your fries instead of making you ask for ketchup, and handing you 10 packets when you ask for some. You gotta wonder if they ever there themselves. Nobody needs a handful of ketchup packets for an order of fries. Ugh!
