Get Ready

This was fascinating in a newsy way. Reuters put up this story at 5:36 a.m. Central Time, and within 10 minutes it was quoted on Fox News, NBC, and ABC -- all giving credit to Reuters. But that's a pretty scant report right there. No city in Texas, no hospital referenced, and all confirmed by a "government official." I presume the details will be filled in. But get ready for Swine Flu Panic: Day Three.

Let's hope we are prepared for a major outbreak of swine flu. Any virus can be life threatening for people who are elderly or have medical conditions.

One health issue not talked about is the spread of TB from illegals crossing over the border from Mexicao. Health care workers have to be checked annually for the disease.

There will be day four, day five, day six, seven.... before this is over. It will test our health care system and government response.

Should we be a little nervous?

Your comment from yesterday

"The Swine Flu issue: Hey, people! Everyone who has contracted it in the U.S. simply gets sick and then gets better."

Any change of thought on that Barry now that a young child has died?

7:29...you are a sick person! It doesn't matter what their name was...that poor child is dead!

We just don't know right now how bad this will be, but we should all keep a careful watch and use common sense.

That means you too, 7:29.

2 month old. Parents brought child from Mexico to Brownsville for treatment. Child was then brought to Houston where she died. Nothing any parent would not have done for their own child, even 7:29.

I saw news that one Democrat congressman from NY wants to close the border to stop the spread of influenza. If it were for health reasons the border probably could be sealed in 72 hours. However, to stop illegal entry, nothing is done.

New Zealand students visiting Mexico have taken the flu home with them.

My grandmother died of the Spanish Flu in 1919. No, she actually died of pneumonia three days after coming down with flu. That is what is on her death certificate. Today, we have antibiotics that block the secondary bacterial infections that attack people weakened by the virus.

Where are you 2012 guy, this may be the beginning of the end...NOT. Last year it was bird flu, this year pig or swine flu, not sure which is correct. I predict we will have at least one animal flu a year until oh let’s see "2012". We already have some animal/human illnesses, equine encephalomyelitis (aka sleeping sickness), mad cow disease (haven't heard much about this one since our president beat her in the primary and then put her to work as secretary of state) I digress. The animal disease syndrome is really a great conspiracy being orchestrated by PETA; it is their revenge for the animal kingdom. On a closing note before someone flogs my arse yes the loss of a child, any child is a tragedy.

Yes, the loss of a child is sad, but AGAIN....36,000 die annually of "flu", ususally the very young and very old. This is no diff.

That little Mexican kid probably died after receiving the best care a witch doctor could provide- then they brought her to Texas.

It's a wonder any of those rug rats survive.
